Google + Usage Still Growing

When searching for the best ways to advertise online, social media is one of the most popular choices of many marketers today. Google +, the new social networking service launched by Google, has seen some controversy when it first started out, as many believed that it would be a dud, just like some of Google’s other failed products. But it has turned out that the new service by Google may indeed have a chance at really gaining some ground.

Google has recently released new figures about their usage statistics. According to information contained in a news update, Google + now boasts 400 million users who have created an account on the service. However, this doesn’t mean that all of these are users that actively visit the service. There are still many that have just created an account out of curiosity, and maybe uploaded a few photos or linked up with some friends, but who don’t pay too much attention to the service.

The total amount of active users, is actually closer to 100 million. Still not bad for such a recent service and definitely a potential for marketers and small business owners. If we count those that just used the “social layer”, such as clicking on a +1 link on the web, or mobile users who +1 an app that they’ve seen, the number would increase to 150 million.

Another important number is the growth. When statistics were released in July, it was reported than traffic to Google + has grown by more than 65%. Again, this shows that internet users have an interest in Google +.

Marketers and advertisers need to recognize this and consider whether Google + should be part of their overall social networking strategy. The best way to go about things right now is to try using the platform for your business and see what kinds of results you will get. You can compare the performance of using Google + versus some of the other social networks. But as always, you should keep ahead of any new developments and statistics that are released about social networking usage. Because it is those who take advantage of new opportunities quickly that often end up among the winners, as they were the first to see new sources of traffic and exposure for their brand.

So far, usage statistics for Facebook have remained quite stable and there is still clear indication that it is used by a large number of internet users. In fact, as we have seen in a previous post, over 85% of young adults in the United States have a Facebook account and the site also remains popular among the older generation as well.

So far, Google has also made good efforts to keep interest in Google + going, thanks to the redesign of some portions of the user interface, as well as by encouraging webmasters to include +1 buttons on their websites which allows the user to share a site that they’ve seen with their friends.

Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing

Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, you should know that there are some mistakes made by many newcomers to this industry that you should avoid if you want to build a business that is profitable both in the short term and in the long term. Here are some of the most common mistakes done by newcomers to affiliate marketing and how you can easily avoid them:

Joining Every Affiliate Program Under the Sun

The experts always talk about how building multiple streams of income is important for success in affiliate marketing and with business in general. They show you how they’re part of dozens of affiliate programs and make money from them. But should you do the same? Not right from the start. Exploring various earning opportunities is definitely great, but when you’re just starting out, you should rather focus on a few programs and not overload yourself. This will make it far more complicated to find the right offers to promote, as you will have way too many to choose from. You will also get plenty of promotional emails from affiliate networks and managers urging you to run their campaigns, but you simply won’t be able to handle all of this at the same time when building your business.

Not Testing the Links and Merchant’s Page

If you make a mistake when copying the affiliate link over to your landing pages, this could be quite costly, as it will probably mean that any sales that you make won’t be tracked and so you won’t get paid for them. You should test your links to ensure that they work correctly. Also, you should check whether the clicks you make register correctly in your affiliate account, though bear in mind that there could be a delay between 15 minutes and a few hours before they appear. You should also see that the merchant’s site is loading correctly and not experiencing any technical problems at the moment. Obviously, sending traffic to a site that doesn’t work is pretty pointless as you will be left wondering why you haven’t made any money from your visitors.

Not Tracking Properly

Chances are, you will be promoting your affiliate offers through different channels. If you want to increase your chances of success, then you need to set up a tracking solution that will allow you to know how many clicks and sales came from which of your websites or advertising channels. This will be very helpful when you want to optimize your campaigns, as you will know which methods that you’ve used in promoting the offers worked and which ones didn’t really do anything. Many affiliate programs will allow you to generate different link codes for the same offer, allowing you to track your clicks more easily. There are also simple scripts that you can integrate into the back end of your website that will let you know exactly where your conversions came from, such as the keywords used, which ad was clicked by the buyer, etc. Any serious affiliate marketer maintains detailed statistics and has a good tracking solution set up.

Facebook May Expand the Reach of its Advertising Network

Facebook May Expand the Reach of its Advertising Network

When a social networking site has close to a billion users and has truly become a household name, many would wonder: what’s next for the company? Will it seek to expand past simply being a social networking website? Based on some recent information from online news sources, it may appear that Facebook may be trying to expand its presence in the online advertising market.

Advertising is what keeps Facebook running as a business. This is the main way that the company makes its money. So it’s only natural that Facebook would want their ads to be displayed in more places, generating more exposure for the advertisers, who can then turn these views into traffic to their websites or Facebook pages, and hopefully, conversions. Traditionally, advertising on Facebook has only been displayed on the social networking site itself. While in the last few weeks, there has been an increase in discussion over how Facebook is changing the way the ads appear, for example through sponsored stories, there is one thing that remained constant. Facebook ads would only be displayed to Facebook users that were connected to the site.

But there is news that Facebook has made a deal with Zynga where Facebook ads are also going to be displayed on their website. Zynga is a popular creator of Facebook apps and games, which are used by a great number of Facebook users. It it therefore logical that Facebook would start expanding their reach in the world of online ads through them.

There is some speculation as to whether the ads would soon start appearing on other websites too. According to more official information obtained from Facebook, they don’t plan on showing ads on other websites for the time being. However, this is something that may of course, change in the future.

Displaying ads on other sites isn’t really all that difficult. There are already millions of websites that have the Facebook Connect integration set up, so serving ads on these sites isn’t too much of a challenge. This gives Facebook a rather larger amount of sites that could be publishers of their ads. If this happens, this would mean that their advertising platform would work in a similar way to Google Adsense. The webmaster that publishes the ads on their site would be paid a certain amount per click or per thousand ad impressions. Advertisers would still pay as usual to have their ads displayed, but then they could select where they would want them to appear, giving them the choice of only making them viewable on Facebook itself, through the content network of other websites, or through just a few websites that were chosen by the advertiser.

For now, the only thing that is official and proven is the ad partnership between Zynga and Facebook. Whether these ads will expand to other websites is still a matter of speculation. But we must remember that the infrastructure for them is already really well laid out, plus interest from advertisers is likely to be quite high as well.

Debunking Common Myths About Google Panda: Part 2

Debunking Common Myths About Google Panda: Part 2

With all the myths floating around on the internet about the Google Panda update, it’s time that we made some sense about what that update really means and how webmasters can adjust to it. Here are some more myths about the update that we can debunk:

  • Large Sites that Consistently Ranked Well Will Not be Affected

There are some major players in the web content field that were hit by the Panda update. About.com, a site that provides information on various topics thanks to guides and FAQ’s submitted by its users has stated that it saw a “moderate” impact on its traffic due to Panda.

Associated Content, a site where different writers can submit articles and that was owned by Yahoo! Has also been affected. This has resulted in Yahoo! Retiring the site, opting instead to keep some of its best content and to move it over to a new site called Yahoo Voices.

Therefore, no matter how big or popular a site is, it can be affected by Panda.

  • Sites That Were Penalized Will Still Keep the Penalty After Improving Their Content

Web pages that are in Google’s index are run through the filter on an occasional basis. Pages that were improved will have a chance to get back on track. The important thing to know is that you should seek to make improvements to your entire site to ensure that it has quality content and not just a few pages. It may take a while for your site to recover from its penalty, however Panda is not designed to permanently ban a site from the search index.

  • Only the Pages With Poor Content Will be Penalized

Unfortunately, Panda will apply a penalty that will be valid for the entire site if there are enough pages that are classified as poor quality. It is possible that some pages on a website that have been penalized will keep their good ranking if they are of very high quality, however. But this is not something that will happen in all cases. Therefore, webmasters need to be sure that all of the pages on their site have high quality content, or risk getting penalized.

  • Only Websites That Have Articles on Them Will be Penalized

Again, all web pages will go through Panda, so it doesn’t matter what type of content you have on your site. It will still be subjected to the rules of the filter. Even if your website only has pages which have one or two hundred words on them and can’t really be classified as “articles”, your site could face a penalty if these pages are ranked as poor quality. No matter what you have on your website, you should follow the basic SEO recommendations, such as making sure that good spelling and grammar is used on all pages, not overusing keywords, not inserting irrelevant keywords into pages they don’t belong, etc.

More About the Google Panda Update

More About the Google Panda Update

Ever since the Google Panda Update has been launched, there has been a lot of talk about it in the online marketing world. However, many people still don’t understand what exactly the update is all about and how it can affect a website. Here is some more information about it and ways to avoid problems associated with this update from Google.

The most important things to understand is what Panda actually is. Essentially, it is a filter that weeds out content that doesn’t have enough substance. The filter is ran on a periodic basis. Every time that it is, all the content indexed by Google goes through the filter again. Therefore, any content that has been caught up in the filter the first time can go through if it has been improved enough. If it’s still poor, then it will remain there and suffer a penalty in the rankings.

Some have argued that Panda is a completely new way that Google uses to rank web pages. This actually isn’t true. There are more than 200 different factors that Google uses to rank pages in search engine results. The Panda update is just one of them.

The main purpose of the Panda update when it was released in February 2011 was to deal with “content farms”. These are websites that have been responsible for “polluting” search results by returning web pages that had little relevance to the keywords that were being searched for by the user. A content farm is a website that usually employs several writers (can sometimes range in the thousands), which create content such as articles, reports, blog posts, etc. that are targeted towards some popular keywords being searched. These sites profit from the traffic that they receive when users click on the ads that they publish, which are usually for products that are loosely related to what the content on the page talks about. The quality of the information on a content farm can vary. Some sites have nearly professional quality content, while on others it simply reads like a bunch of gibberish written by someone who hasn’t even mastered basic English.

Since then, several updates to Panda have been released, by the main purpose is still the same: keeping low quality content from ranking well in search results. Websites that were penalized because of the update have a chance to change things. To get rid of the penalty, all a webmaster needs to do is to remove the content that is of poor quality, or replace it with something that is well written and relevant to the keywords that are targeted on the site.

The basic principles of search engine optimization still apply. Websites that provide their users with high quality content and that target keywords which are closely related to what they have on their site should not experience too many issues with this, or any of the future updates done by Google to the way they rank search results.

Protecting Your Online Business: Understanding the Types of Attacks

Protecting Your Online Business: Understanding the Types of Attacks

If you run any type of online business, knowing how to protect yourself from malicious attacks on your site is important. The simple reason behind this is that these attacks can affect your business in a very negative way and cause serious losses. One of the things that you need to do first is to understand the types of attacks that your online business could fall victim to. Here are the most common types:

  • Denial of Service Attacks

A Denial of Service (DOS) attack occurs when attackers flood a website with too many requests so that it goes offline as the server can’t handle the traffic. This has the effect of making your website unavailable.

  • Theft of information

This happens when hackers break into a site and steal sensitive information. This could include the personal information of your clients and members, or the contents of your email messages. This can lead to serious problems for those whose information was compromised as well as a loss of reputation for the business in question.

  • Site defacing

Pretty much a form of vandalism in the online world. A website is hacked and the home page is changed to a different message. Often times it would just be a “Hacked by (insert name here)” message, but can also take different forms. For example, your website could be redirected to another site, or it could be used to deliver malware. This can obviously make you lose revenue and affect the reputation of your business.

  • Affiliate link hijacking

This form of intrusion is a lot more subtle. A site that is compromised will have its affiliate links changed so that all sales go into the account of the hacker rather than yours. This could also be done with hosted pay per click ads, where the ad code on your site is replaced by that of the hacker. Users will not really notice anything too different about the site, but it obviously will make you lose revenue until you realize what is going on.

  • Comment and post spam

This is obviously a serious problem with any site that accepts user generated content, such as blog comments, forum posts or reviews. The spam is either done manually or through the use of automated tools. Usually, this can easily be recognized as the messages posted will look quite nonsensical and have links to websites that are completely unrelated to the context of your site. When done manually, it can be more subtle and be harder to detect. Having a site full of spam comments will reduce the user experience, as a legitimate visitor will have to wade through dozens of spam posts to find anything useful. Having such spam on your website can also affect your SEO and get you penalized by Google.

There are, however numerous ways that you can use to protect yourself from these attacks, which we will see tomorrow.

Is Google Secure Search Bad for Marketers?

Is Google Secure Search Bad for Marketers?

Google secure search isn’t really that new. It was unveiled in November 2011 as a feature of the ever popular search engine. What it does according to Google is to help protect online privacy during searches, as the data stream is encrypted between the users computer and Google’s servers. This ensures that nobody else can see the keywords being searched for.

While this may be good for some security conscious individuals, for marketers it may not be the best thing to happen. There is one major issue with Google secure search: when a user performs a query on the search engine, the keywords that were used to find a website are no longer visible in Google Analytics, which is the world’s most popular online analytics program. This has left many SEO experts and independent marketers frustrated. Knowing which keywords drive traffic to your website is one of the best ways of knowing which changes you can make to your website in terms of SEO. When a user makes use of the secure search feature of Google, the data will simply show up as not available.

One of the comforts that marketers and webmasters have for now is the fact that Google secure search is still used in a minority of all search queries. Currently, it represents about 25% of all the search volume on Google. But what worries many is that this number may rise in the future.

The reasons as to why Google is hiding keyword information for organic searches is not yet known, which has many speculating and wondering as to why that is. It is probably not there for technical reasons, as advertisers who use the Google Adwords platforms still have access to information about which keywords have led a particular user to their website. There is also discussion as to whether this will finally change and Google will un cloak search data even for organic searches.

According to a few online marketing and SEO experts, there are some ways around the problem. One of the solutions is to look at which pages are getting the most traffic and then checking to see which keywords that page has been optimized for. This can give a website owner a general idea of which of their keywords are pulling in the bigger amount of visitors to their website.

One important lessons that online marketers can learn from all of this is that search engines can and will change how they do things in the future. And these changes may not always have the needs of marketers as a priority. Therefore, it is necessary to be creative in finding ways to market your website in the online world. Marketers need to remember that organic search on Google, while a big bringer of traffic to many websites, is not the only way that can be used to get visitors to a site. There are other free and paid traffic generation methods that can be used by webmasters in many different niches.

Building a Successful Blog: Part 2

Building a Successful Blog: Part 2

There are a few others things that you need to know if you’re going to create a blog. Understanding how blogs work and the best kinds of content to add to one will make it more likely that your blog will appeal to its targeted audience. Here are some more tips that you can use in order to make your blog popular when it launches:

  • Understand That Blog Are About New Ideas

If you browse many blogs, you will notice that most of the good ones contain collections of new ideas and information. As such, keeping your blog updated on a regular basis will help you maintain your readership. Remember to keep the content original and fresh. Blogs aren’t only meant to be used as a reference tool on your niche, where you explain how to do certain things to your audience. Instead, include other types of posts, such as information on new events happening in your niche, as well as commentary on issues that you think are relevant. Your readers will enjoy having varied content to read on your blog a lot more than simply having one kind of article posted again and again.

  • Blogs Are Social By Nature

One thing that you need to know is that many of those that read blogs are also bloggers themselves. As such, if you write content that is good enough, you may have it syndicated on other blogs as well. There are many other opportunities for sharing and interaction with blogs. For example, allowing comments on your blog may add some useful content to it without you needing to take any action. RSS feeds allow readers to subscribe to your blog and be instantly notified if something new is posted. Also, adding social media buttons that allow people to like and share your blog posts is of course highly recommended, as it can increase your traffic and the popularity of your blog.

  • Your Blogs Headlines are Important

Creating compelling headlines for your blog posts is very important, especially if for when your blog gets indexed in search engines. The headline alone in that case could be the difference between someone reading your post and not reading it. There are many free guides and articles that you can find online about creating unique and captivating headlines, so it doesn’t have to be as difficult as it may seem at the beginning.

  • Organize Your Content Well

Content structure and organization are vital to a good blog. This can be achieved by dividing your posts into different categories. On the home page of your blog, you should make it as welcoming as possible to new readers, with your best content featured on the front page. Remember that the easier your blog is to navigate for your readers, the more likely they are to like it, come back to read it again and share it with others. Simply making it easier for them to find what they’re looking for can go quite a long way.

Creating Your Info Product: The Content – Part 1

Creating Your Info Product: The Content – Part 1

If you decide to create the content of your info product by yourself, in that case you have quite a bit of work to do. However, just like any other online business project, it can be done if you apply the right methods, knowledge and effort into it. For many people, the creation of the product itself can even be a very enjoyable experience. Before we get started on how to put the product together, there are a few general tips that you need to be aware of, which will help make sure that your product will be well received by its targeted audience, meaning your buyers:

  • Offer something useful and really informative – solve your readers problems and answer their questions

One of the common complaints about information products, especially those in the online marketing niche, is that they don’t offer any real and usable information to the buyer. Think of it this way, a guide on earning money online that simply tells the reader to put up a website, sign up for Adsense or a CPA network and then “somehow” get some traffic to it would be quite useless, as it doesn’t actually give any details or methods on how they can accomplish that.

  • Don’t just rewrite free information that can be found online

This is another complaint that people make about info products that they’ve bought. There is a lot of free information available online to people who are looking for answers to their questions about any given topic. Is your product actually going to give more than that? This is where you get the occasion to really make your product shine. Add some unique methods and strategies that you’ve thought up of and that you’ve tried. Use your experience and knowledge in your niche to share some personal advice with your readers about how you’ve solved the problem that they’ve been having and how you’ve accomplished what they’re trying to do. While some things, such as SEO methods for example, are commonly discussed at length online, this doesn’t mean you just need to rewrite existing information about them. Give something better to your buyers and they will definitely appreciate it.

  • Quality matters more than quantity

When creating a product that is supposed to be informational, you’re not writing a novel or creating the next big movie. You want the information transmitted to your readers to be concise and educate them on your niche. Nobody wants to read an e-book or watch a video course where half of the content is about the author boasting about his accomplishments or telling his life story to the buyer. This doesn’t help the buyer in any way. Essentially, you will want to give your buyers the necessary bits of background information about how some of the concepts work, then give them the actual methods on how they can actually make things work for themselves. Don’t say things simply for the sake of taking up space.

Efficient Video Marketing Uses

Efficient Video Marketing Uses

We have all seen mentions about how video marketing could be useful in terms of making money online. But the issue with it is that few business owners use it, and many of them don’t really do it well. Can you use video sharing sites like YouTube and Daily Motion to attract some customers to your website? Definitely. Here are some tips that you will find helpful for this:

  • Use public video sharing sites and not your own server

The obvious advantage of this is that you will be saving bandwidth, as the videos will be hosted on a site such as YouTube and not your own server. Another advantage of this is that more people will be able to see your videos if they search for their related keywords. If you host your videos on your own server, they can only be seen on the places where you put them, such as websites, blogs or social media pages.

  • Put your website and business logo at the beginning and end of your video

Even though YouTube allows you to put links in the description (which you should do as well), you are better off putting your website in your video as well. This is because some people may see your video and choose to embed it on their own website or blog, or share it with social media. If your video goes viral and is seen by a lot of people, chances are it will be embedded on a lot of sites, so to get the most traffic from this effect, your website must be present in the video itself.

  • Give useful content to your viewers

It is said time and time again, nobody comes online to watch commercials, there are enough of them on TV. The content of your videos therefore needs to be relevant to your products and niche, without looking like you are only promoting your website or goods. Instructional or informational videos are the best. For example, if your company sells replacement iPhone screens, then having a video which demonstrates how to open up the iPhone and change its screen without messing up the phone would be quite useful. It can also be used for intangible products such as guides and learning materials. So if you sell language courses, you can create a video which teaches some important phrases, pronunciation, words, in another language, then at the end refer the viewers to your website so they can check out the product and see if it is good for them.

  • Don’t give up if you don’t get many views

It is a fact that most videos will not achieve millions of views, especially if your niche is very specific. The issue is quality and not quantity. You can make sales with just a handful of viewers that are truly interested in the content of your video and the product behind it, while uploading a video that gets thousands of views because it is “cute” or “funny” may not bring you any serious site visitors.

Some Web Store Ideas

Some Web Store Ideas

If you are going to build an e-commerce site, then there are many different things that you would need to think about. We have seen that you need an idea as to what to sell, a website, as well as ways to get traffic to your site.

But the most important element of creating an e-commerce site would be the first idea: what you will be selling on your website. This will determine the overall niche that your business will be in and will also play a big role in determining how much money you will be making from your site. This is simply due to the fact that there is more demand for certain items online then for others.

However, the point here is not to dive into every possible item that can be sold online and then try to analyze whether it is good or bad. The fact is, any item can be sold online, however some items are easier to sell than others. Here are a few ideas as to what you could sell online. Of course, this is just to give you examples and inspiration, you could sell practically anything that you want.

Items That You Create Yourself

These are items that you have designed, created and in some cases, actually built. This distinguishes them from items that have already been created and manufactured by another business, that you are simply distributing at a profit. Here are some examples of items you can make yourself and sell online:

  • Toy cars, trains and aircraft

These are some of the most popular things that you can build yourself and sell online. Many people have a hobby in which they collect and use remote controlled model cars, train sets, as well as aircraft like helicopters and airplanes. All that you would need to do is to buy the parts needed and then assemble them. You can then sell them online. This can be quite a lucrative business, depending on the quality of the parts used and the construction. On the low end of the spectrum, these items can sell for just a few dollars. But there are also models that are bought by serious hobbyists which can be sold for several thousands of dollars.

  • T Shirts and other clothing items

It is relatively easy these days to design your own clothing. There are plenty of companies that can print a t-shirt, hoodie, or other clothing item with your own designs. If you are thinking of starting your own fashion line, then this is definitely a good opportunity. Some websites well clothing items with funny designs, pictures and logos, while some others are more “classic”. The success that you experience will largely depend on how your customers like the clothes that you are selling. If you become really popular, then you definitely have the potential of getting hundreds or thousands of orders per month.

Remember that websites which are very powerful and have become a staple of the online business world today have all started with this: an idea.

Will you be able to be as successful as some of the big names in e-commerce right now? Maybe… but you have to be realistic and the odds of this actually happening are quite remote indeed. However, with the right ideas, business plan and execution, you will definitely be able to make some money with an e-commerce site. With the growth in online shopping, there are a lot of opportunities out there for you to make money. Here are the basic elements that you would need to think of when you start an online business of this sort:

  • Products to sell. Obviously this is the most important thing to consider when you are starting an online business. You will need to think about what you will be selling to make money from your site. This is the part of building an e-commerce site that you will want to give the most thought to.
  • A website. Since you will be selling products online, you obviously need to have a website to sell them. While some will tell you that building an e-commerce site is easy, creating one, depending on how complex you want it to be, can be a challenge. You can build a website from an “off the shelf” e-commerce platform, many of which are available for free. This will give you a “standard” or basic e-commerce site. But if you want to customize it more, you will need to either learn about things such as coding and graphic design, or hire someone else to do it for you. Your website will be the first thing that your customers see, so you obviously need to make it look good in order to make your online business appear trustworthy in your site visitors eyes.
  • Site visitors. Also know as traffic. Obviously, this is an important part of running an online business and it is also the most important one. Without any visitors to your website, there are no potential customers and therefore you will be making no money. There are various strategies that you can employ to bring some visitors to your new e-commerce website. But one thing that you need to realize is that at the beginning, growth may be quite slow. You will need to patiently build up some traffic by using various means of online promotion. There are some ways that you can use which will bring you free website visitors. However, this will require some work on your part. Also, you will need to study some of the online advertising and marketing methods if you would like to know all about the latest methods that you can use to bring some people as visitors to your site.

Tips for Running CPA Offers on Craigslist: Part 1

Even though it may have gotten more difficult in recent times, it is still possible to use Craigslist (and other classified ads sites) to promote some CPA offers, and there are still many merchants and networks which allow this kind of promotion. While these tips work for Craigslist, they will obviously be good for any other similar classified ads site out there.

However, many people report having problems, such as getting their ads flagged within minutes, or having their ads not appearing. Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of classified ads sites when used with CPA campaigns.

  • Don’t direct link to a CPA offer

While this may seem pretty obvious, a lot of new marketers seem oblivious to the fact that if you put an affiliate link directly into your ad, you will get flagged down rapidly, or your ad will not appear at all. You basically have two ways that you can use to direct traffic from a classified ads site to an affiliate or CPA offer. Either you build your own landing page and register a domain for it, or you have people email you and then reply to them by email. The approach that you will use will vary depending on what you are promoting, but the second option seems to be the most popular and effective for the majority of CPA offers.

  • Don’t use an autoresponder

An autoresponder is an email feature which automatically sends a reply with a pre-formatted message to anyone who sends you an email. Autoresponders have their value and are in fact extremely useful for some types of marketing. However, for classified ads, they are not a tool that you can use. Whenever someone gets an automated response to an email that they’ve sent, it automatically shows that something “spammy” is going on. Therefore, you are highly likely to get your ad flagged as spam very quickly if you use an autoresponder. I know that replying to emails personally takes time, but this is something that needs to be done if you want to have success. The task could be outsourced very cheaply as well. If you have to use an autoresponder (not recommended and we will get into more reasons later on) at least use one which is on a delay of a few hours and does not reply to emails automatically as soon as they are received.

  • Be creative in your ads

There are certain words such as “make money online” which will get your ad flagged right away. Furthermore, avoid copy pasting ads that you saw in an e-book or in a forum post that details some money making method for Craigslist. These have a high tendency to get flagged right away, since chances are there are many other people who have used them before you. Therefore, the bottom line here is: the ad that you post needs to be creative.

Creating Passive Income

One term that is often mentioned when it comes to online business is “passive income”. However, many newcomers to the industry do not really understand what it means or why you should work to create such a source of income for you. While the definitions will vary somewhat, passive income for me would mean income that will come to you without you having to make ongoing efforts to get it. Too many people get discouraged when it comes to operating their own online business for one main reason : it takes too much work. After all, who wants to trade a $15 an hour job to make $15 an hour online, even if you are working for yourself. Furthermore, nobody wants to spend their entire day in front of the computer to run their business.

There are many ways to make money online, some of which require more interaction from you on a regular basis, some less. Let’s explore some of the ways that you can create an online business that will not require you to spend 10 hours a day in front of your computer.

  • Creating your own product

Of course, creating an information product and selling it will require a lot of time and effort in the beginning. However, once the product is created and you have sent some traffic to it, the amount of work that you need to devote to it will diminish as well. This is even more so when you have affiliates that are promoting your product. They will be the ones who will work to create advertising campaigns and get some sales for you, while you can simply sit back and spend an hour or so every day checking your stats and making sure that everything is going ok.

  • Selling on eBay

While many would say that selling on eBay is not a “passive income” activity, it all comes down to what you sell and how you do things. Let’s say that you have found a product that is very popular and that you can sell for a $50 profit on eBay. If you get just 2 sales a day, that will mean $100 a day of profit. To allow this to happen, all that you need to do is to work with a drop shipper. The buyer pays for the item. You then place an order with the drop shipper and tell them to ship the item to the client. The deal is done. All you would need to do is to place the orders as necessary and also place new listings. All of this would take you less than an hour a day on average and can bring you very nice profits with little effort. For you to make this work, you would just need to spend some time at the beginning finding a product that is in demand and that can be shipped to your buyers by a supplier which does drop shipping.
