Building a Successful Blog: Part 1

There are many out there who have seen successful blogs that receive tens of thousands of hits each day and have a loyal following of readers from all around the world. It is definitely possible to start a blog and have it become popular, but there are a few considerations that webmasters would need to keep in mind in order to put all the chances of succeeding on their side.

When getting started, you should do certain things which will help you get off on the right foot. Here are some of the most important elements to think about:

  • Get Your Own Domain and Hosting

You will find many services, such as Blogger, WordPress.com and other blog hosts which let you host a blog for free, as a subdomain of their main domain name. If you hope your blog to be successful and earn you some money, then you should avoid any free hosting service. First, it will make promoting your blog more complicated, as you wouldn’t be hosting it on your own domain name. Plus, there is the fact that free blogging platform often provide a limited set of tools and can have several other restrictions that will make customizing your blog and monetizing it more difficult. While you may find a few highly popular blogs that are hosted on a free service, this is the exception and not the norm. Also, in many cases these blogs have become popular simply by accident as their content went viral, rather than through the actions of the owner.

Basic web hosting is cheap and can cost less than $5 per month. A domain name can also be purchased for less than $10 and is included in many hosting packages. Once you have your hosting, you can then install a blogging platform, such as WordPress, which is the most popular in the world among bloggers.

  • Think About the Content You Will Provide to Readers

While you may have an objective of making money from your blog, you must remember that your primary mission should be to provide content that your audience will love and find useful. There are so many spammy blogs that are contain nothing more than advertisements for products that the webmaster owns or is an affiliate of, or blogs that contain copied or rewritten content that offers nothing new to the reader, where the webmaster simply hopes that visitors will click on some of the ads.

Before you choose a niche for your blog, ask yourself whether it’s something that you truly have an interest in and will really be able to create useful content for on a regular basis. Also, ask yourself whether it’s something that will be relatively unique, or if there would already be thousands of other blogs just like yours online. The more likely your blog is to appeal to its intended audience, the more natural traffic you will get, which will make generating revenue from your blog a lost faster and demand much less active effort on your part.

Using Fiverr To Make Money: Part 3

Using Fiverr To Make Money: Part 3

Previously, we have seen how it is possible to make money from Fiverr by selling your services. But there are other ways that you can profit from this unique freelancing site and this is by being a buyer. While making a profit buying things may not seem very obvious at first, there are actually some ways that you can make this happen. Let’s take a look at some of these ways:

  • Buying Traffic and Social Media Promotion

Let’s say you have a product or service that you are selling online and could use some traffic to get some exposure for it. There are many sellers who offer social media promotion on Fiverr, such as sending out Tweets or putting a link to your website on their Facebook fan page. Many of these people have tens of thousands of Twitter followers or Facebook fans, meaning that your message will be seen by a lot of people. However, it is still important that you check the reputation of the seller, just to make sure that their fans or followers are actually real people rather than bots. You can do this by checking their feedback and seeing what others have left as comments about the service that they offered. Still, for just $5, you are getting a lot of potential exposure and are not risking a lot of money if you don’t get the results that you were hoping for.

  • Outsourcing Services

While I have mentioned it in another post some time ago, I will say it once again: there is a lot of profit to be made from what is referred to as “services arbitrage”. What does it consist of? Quite simply, you would sell your services at another place, such as an internet marketing forum and then outsource it to people on Fiverr for a lower price. So let’s say that you get paid $7 to write a 600 word article based on an offer that you’ve made on an IM forum. You would then outsource that article creation to someone on Fiverr and have them write it for $5. You keep the $2 difference as a profit. Sure, the $2 doesn’t sound like much, however this can quickly add up. So if you are outsourcing 10 articles a day, this can generate a profit of $600 a month. Not bad, considering the fact that you could spend less than an hour a day managing this.

Here again, the trick is to make sure that whoever you are outsourcing the work to will do a quality job so that you can maintain your reputation as being a provider that offers great services to your client. Check the seller’s past feedback to see if it is good and give them a small assignment to begin with. If you notice that they do good work and follow your instructions well, you can then send them more regular work and you will have found a great partner that you can outsource your work to.

Affiliate Programs and CPA Networks: How to Recognize and Stay Away from Scammers

Affiliate Programs and CPA Networks: How to Recognize and Stay Away from Scammers

Many internet marketers make their money by dealing with affiliate programs or with CPA networks that have various kinds of offers they can push in order to make money. Most of these companies are legitimate and will pay you the earnings that you have made on time, every single time. But there are a couple of bad players in the industry. Here are some ways to spot and avoid them:

  • Do some research first

Before even signing up for a network simply doing a Google search for their name can bring you a lot of information about the company. You will often find blog posts, forum posts and articles that mention them. Read these. See what other internet marketers are saying about them and look at whether the general opinion is positive or negative.

  • Be wary around “start ups” and smaller networks

If a company has not yet established their reputation in the industry, remember that things can go in two ways with them. Either they will grow to become a productive and successful network or they will fold. If it’s the second thing that happens, things are not likely to be pretty. There have been several cases of networks going under and skipping out on tens of thousands of dollars of payments to affiliates. The large majority involved CPA networks which were operating for less than a year.

  • Be careful around networks who seem to approve everyone

While there are some notable exceptions to this, such as Commission Junction and ClickBank, which are very reputable networks, as a general rule you should be quite wary around a network that seems to approve every publisher that applies without giving them a phone call or emailing them to ask them about their marketing methods. While you may think it is convenient, this can cause problems down the road, if large amounts of fraudsters manage to sign up and merchants start dropping the network.

  • Carefully check the terms of any offers that you run and ask questions if necessary

This is especially the case for “trial” or “membership” offers. While you may be offered a good amount for every sign up, some merchants have been known to use underhanded tactics if not enough of the sign ups that you refer have converted to full members on their end. Some may falsely accuse you of sending fraudulent leads or deliberately using bad quality traffic and refuse to pay you. For this reason, it is very important that you check the terms of the offer to see if the merchant has any special requirements with regards to the type of traffic you can send and its productivity.

  • Work with multiple networks and run different offers

It is not a good idea to focus all of your marketing efforts for the month on just one offer or on offers from only one network, no matter how profitable they may seem. Spread out your traffic around several different offers in the niche on different networks. That way, if there is any problem with one of them, you will still be getting paid by the others.

Marketing For Local Businesses: Your Options – Media Buying – Part 1

When it comes to online advertising options for a local business, there are plenty of choices that are open to you. Some of these options are completely free, while others will require you to spend some money and thus create an advertising budget. But one of the advantages of online advertising is that it is not as expensive as other methods, such as television or radio ads. It is also possible to very specifically target the audience that you want to reach, so that only people who have a high chance of being interested in your products end up seeing your ads.

One of these options is media buying. Now, many of you who are not familiar with online marketing terms may wonder what media buying consists of. Basically, it means that you will be buying advertising space on another website and paying for these ads according to different business models. Here are the ones that are the most commonly used in the media buying industry:

Fixed fee – You pay a certain fee to have your ad displayed in a permanent position on a certain website. This fee could be for a day, a week, two weeks, a month or even longer. Usually with this option, your ad is not rotated, meaning that it stays in one spot on the website for the entire time that you have paid for it. The costs will vary depending on the ad location as well as the traffic that the site receives. As such, the price for a daily ad on a site with a moderate amount of traffic could be as little as $4, while one on a site receiving tens of thousands of daily visitors (such as a popular news site in your city), a daily ad could cost you $1000 or even more.

CPM (or cost per views) – Here, you will pay a certain amount for every thousand visitors that view your ad. Every view is counted, so you will pay the same amount whether a visitor clicks your ad to go to your site or not. Once again, the amount you pay will vary on the popularity of your site, as well as the location of the site where your ad is put in. Ads which are displayed in prominent parts of the site tend to cost more.

CPC (or Cost Per Click) – This is similar to pay per click (or PPC) ads that you see on Google sponsored results. You will pay an amount for each person that clicks on your ad and is thus redirected to your site. Costs will vary depending on the site where you are advertising. They can be as low as $0.01/click up to $1.00 or more for each click you receive.

Tomorrow, we will explore more details about online media buying, such as which websites you can advertise on and the types of ads that you can create for your business.

Create A Successful Newsletter

Create A Successful Newsletter

Starting a successful newsletter is tough, no matter what type of site it’s for. Most people delete the majority of newsletters that hit their inbox without ever even opening them. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t run an email marketing campaign, it just means you have to follow a few important guidelines while doing so.

First, and probably the most important, is don’t buy subscribers. We’ve all seen the ads that promise tens of thousands of subscribers for one low, low price, but it’s still not worth it. The price might be affordable, but you probably don’t want the subscribers they’re tying to sell you. You can’t be certain how they got a hold of those email addresses, so there’s always a chance they were obtained illegally, or at the very least, by underhanded means. If they were all obtained on the up and up, you still have no way of knowing whether or not they’re active email addresses that get checked by someone regularly. Even if they do get checked regularly, you still don’t want them. There’s no way to guarantee that each email address you bought belongs to someone who is likely to be interested in your newsletter. You might be buying subscribers that are likely to flag your newsletter as spam, and hurt the overall reputation of your newsletter, and by proxy, your site.

Instead of paying for subscribers, ask for them. Put an opt in page on your site, and put an opt in box on the sidebar. Also, if you have a store, give your customers the option to sign up for your newsletter during checkout. By asking your customers to sign up, you won’t get as many subscribers as you would by buying them, but you’ll get subscribers with a genuine interest in your site, and your niche.

Once you have the right subscribers, it’s important to start sending them the right things. Don’t just send out sales emails, try to send out entertaining and informative content as well. If you can entertain your subscribers, they’ll be more likely to open and read all of your emails, including your sales emails.

A successful newsletter just comes down to sending the right information to the right subscribers. If you have subscribers that are interested in what you have to say, and you’re sending them meaningful content, your newsletter will perform well.
