Ideas for a Successful Info Product

Selling information products is a big part of the overall internet marketing business. Every single year, there are millions of sales of info products being made, such as e-books, video courses, membership site subscriptions, etc. While the niches vary, info products all have one thing in common: they teach the reader how to do something or to solve a problem that they’re having, such as getting their dog to stop barking, starting an online business, fixing computer problems, etc.

There are many “make money online” guides and websites which tout selling an info product as one of the best ways of making money on the internet. Of course, it’s possible to be quite successful by doing it, but if you want to ensure that you will be able to actually make some money from a product that you’ve created, there are some things that you need to know first. We will look at some things you need to consider before you actually put up your product for sale.

Think Whether this is Actually Something You Want to Do

Putting together, marketing and selling a successful info product is something that will take work. Even if your goals are just to make a few hundred dollars from the a very basic product, you will need to put in at least a few days work into it. Therefore, it is not something for everyone. There are plenty of other things that you can do to earn money from an online business, such as affiliate marketing, reselling physical products on online shopping sites, providing services, etc. which can be just as profitable as creating your own product and selling it to people on the internet. The bottom line is that you would need to make sure you’re actually interested in creating an info product, as opposed to simply be interested in making money online by selling “something”.

Research and Choose Your Niche Properly

Choosing the right niche will be one of the main factors which will determine whether the product that you create will be a success or not. You can have the best and most original content, and deploy really good marketing efforts, but if you choose the wrong niche, you could end up just wasting your time. One of the most common mistakes that people make is selecting a niche that is overly broad and thus too competitive. If there are a thousand other products already being sold which claim to provide the same information to the buyer as yours, making a decent amount of sales will actually be quite difficult. Therefore, going after a niche that is still in demand but is not completely saturated with other products is the best way to achieve success.

Tomorrow, we will go into more details about selecting the niche for your product and another important part: thinking of the content that you will include in it.

Creating Your Membership Site: Some Other Things You Need

Creating Your Membership Site: Some Other Things You Need

Besides quality web hosting, there are certain other things that you would need in order to run your membership site. These are: a content management system and a payment gateway. Once again, you need to make the right choice when selecting these two, as they will be very important to running your site. Here is a closer examination on how to choose them:

  • Content management system

Basically, it will be the software that resides on your server and will be powering your entire membership site. This will allow you to add content and manage your site. There are hundreds of different membership site systems out there. Some are commercial, while others are open source systems. The best way to select a good content management system would be to first read some information about this. You can find this in many webmaster and internet marketing forums such as Digital Point and the Warrior Forum.

Basically, some points that you should compare the various systems on are:

  • Security – Is this system vulnerable to any kinds of malicious attacks and are there any known security vulnerabilities affecting it?
  • Functionality – Does the system give you all the features that you would need to manage your site well. Is it able to be fully integrated with payment systems? This will allow members to be given access right away after they join.
  • Flexibility – Are there any limitations on how much content and what kind of content you can add to your site? Is there a maximum number of users you can add?

  • A Payment System

This will allow your membership site to take payment from members and can be fully integrated with your content management system in order to activate accounts as well as deactivate those that did not renew their membership.

The payment system that you use will process credit card payments and allow you to receive the proceeds of your membership site subscriptions. The most common payment processing system available right now is of course PayPal. Many membership site owners use it because of its popularity and the fact that it offers many API features that can integrate very well with the majority of content management systems out there. PayPal also supports recurring payments, meaning that your subscribers will not have to pay manually every month. Rather, they will be charged automatically unless they themselves cancel their subscription to your site.

Although PayPal is the most popular system right now, there are other payment processors available too. Some examples are MoneyBookers and Plimus. It is also recommended that you use more than one payment processor, in case someone has problems using one. Creating a business account is free and integrating multiple payment processors is not that difficult, all you would need to do is to add the right code to your membership site. This could also be convenient for users, as for example someone might not have money in their PayPal account but might have some in their MoneyBookers account and would want to use that to join your site rather than paying with a credit card.

Some Ideas On What to Do Online – Affiliate Programs

If you have just started out and decided to build an online business, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the opportunities out there. Indeed there are many opportunities to earn online, so choosing the right one is important to your success. Here is an overview of some of the most common ways to make money on the internet and get your new business going.

Affiliate programs

In essence, an affiliate program pays you to promote a certain product or service and you get a commission in return. This commission amount will vary depending on a few factors, such as the type of product/service you are promoting, the merchant, as well as your past experience with that particular affiliate program. It is not uncommon for many programs to have tiered structures where you get to earn a higher commission amount if you drive a certain number of sales to them.

There are also various ways that the merchant will pay you per sale:

Fixed amount. Just like the name implies, you will get paid a specific dollar amount for each sale that you refer. This amount may vary depending on different products or services that are purchased by the referred customer.

Percentage of sale. This is most commonly used by merchants which sell dozens of different items which have different prices. The percentage that you get will once again vary greatly depending on what you are promoting. In the case of high priced physical goods, the commission percentages are usually quite low and range from 2 to 5%. But this is made up by the fact that the percentage will be based on an overall higher sale amount. For digital goods, such as ebooks and membership site subscriptions, it is not uncommon to be offered commissions ranging from 50% to 75%. However, it is worth noting that the sale price is much lower and normally ranges between $25 to $50.

Recurring commissions (also called revenue sharing or rev-share). This type of payment plan is sometimes offered by merchants who have a subscription based service, such as informational membership sites, dating sites, etc. You would get a percentage of the amount that a customer that you have referred to the site was billed. Once again, the exact percentage will vary, but is usually in the range of 25% to 75%.

Finding affiliate programs

As you have probably noticed, there is no shortage of affiliate programs that you can sign up to participate in. However, due to the complexity involved in running an affiliate program, many online merchants have chosen to join a bigger affiliate network. This network will take care of tracking the commissions owed and issuing payments to you after they have been paid by the merchant at the end of the month.

Some popular affiliate networks are: ClickBank (www.clickbank.com) for e-books, membership sites and digital products; Commission Junction (www.cj.com) and Linkshare (www.linkshare.com) regroup hundreds of different merchants, such as clothing retailers, online phone services, etc.
