The Power Of Incentives

The Power Of Incentives

Getting people to sign up for your newsletter, subscribe for a service you’re offering, or sign up for your website can be difficult. A lot of people will just choose not to sign up for whatever you’re offering for a simple reason, or no reason at all other than the fact that you didn’t grab their attention. One way to get people to do what you want them to is to offer them some incentive for doing what you want.

Contests

A contest is a great way to get new sign ups for your email list, or your website. Just offer a decent prize to one lucky winner who is a member of your site, Be sure to be clear about the terms of the contest, and spell the rules out clearly. Once you have your contest set up, spend some time and effort promoting it. Once people hear about the contest, they’ll start signing up for you site whether they have a healthy interest in your niche or not. That, unfortunately, is the down side of running a contest. Not every new sign up you get will be a useful, and high quality customer. Some people will sign up even if they have no interest in what you’re offering. and as such, they won’t add any value to your business. Still, a contest is a great way to draw in a lot of new customers.

Gifts

If you offer a gift to new sign ups, even if it’s a small one, it might just be the deciding factor in whether they do what you want them to or not. Even something simple like a coupon might be the final selling point that gets them to do what you’re asking them to. The gift doesn’t have to be fancy, but the better it is, the more of an incentive to do whatever it is you want people to do it will be.

If you want to draw new people to your site, or your mailing list, incentives are a great way to do that. A simple gift, or the chance to win a half decent prize might very well make the difference between getting new customers, and not getting them. People will do things they wouldn’t normally do for a gift, or a prize, so keep that in mind as you offer incentives to your audience.

Choose A Social Media Manager

Choose A Social Media Manager

Running a social media marketing campaign can be a tricky process. Each different social media site has it’s own pro’s and cons, and if you don’t know how to work within the confines of a particular site, you’re not going to be able to use it effectively as part of your marketing campaign. If you’re not familiar with all the ins and outs of social media marketing, you might want to hire a social media marketing manager.

If you’re going to hire a social media manager, it’s important to hire the right person for the job. Your reputation can take a lot of serious, irreversible damage if your social media marketing campaign is run poorly, so you need to be sure you’re hiring someone with experience, and knowledge about how to use social media effectively.

When you’re talking to a candidate, don’t be afraid to ask for references. Take a look at any other social media campaigns they have worked on or are currently working on, and take the time to examine those accounts closely. Make sure that your candidate handled themselves professionaly on the social media accounts they ran for other people. If you see any signs that they may have been inconsistent, or anything other than professional when dealing with previous clients, they may not be the social media manager for you.

It’s also a good idea to take a look at their own social media accounts. A good social media manager will have accounts set up to promote themselves. Those accounts should be updated regularly, and they should have high quality friends and followers. Numbers aren’t everything – just because they have a lot of friends or followers that doesn’t mean they are high quality friends and followers. Look to see how often they interact with other people on social media sites, and you’ll get a good idea of how well they manage their own social media accounts

If you take the time to pick the right person for the job, you’ll be on your way to a successful social media marketing campaign. Social media can have a huge impact on your reputation, so it’s important to treat it with the right level of importance.

Why Is It Hard To Succeed With An Online Business?

Starting a new online business can be tough. We’ve covered some of the things you will need to do, and some concepts you’ll need to keep in mind, now let’s take a look at some of the challenges you’ll face.

Tedium

Many of the tasks you’ll have to complete for your online business are extremely tedious. Keyword research, copy writing, and setting up a website all take a great deal of time to execute. None of the tasks you’ll have to do are terribly difficult, but most of them take up a good bit of time. It can be difficult to stay focused on tedious tasks, especially in the beginning. When you’re first starting out, the rewards for your efforts won’t be clear, and it might feel like you’re doing a lot of work for a little yield. It’s important to push through this part of the process.

Profits

In the beginning, you’re not going to make a lot of money. In fact, you might go as much as a month or two without bringing in a single penny. One of the main reasons why people fail with online businesses is that they give up when their new business isn’t profitable right away. It’s important to keep going even if you’re not seeing a monetary reward for your efforts. If you keep going, you’ll get to a point where you’re profiting.l If you quit, you’ll never make a dime.

Learning Curve

While most of the tasks involved in running an online business are pretty straightforward, a lot of the knowledge necessary to perform those tasks effectively is not. There are a lot of new terms,a nd concepts to learn about when you’re starting out with an online business, and if you don’t take the time to do the learning, you’re just setting yourself up for failure down the line.

Starting a new online business can be very challenging. The secret to success is persevering through the hard parts, and making your way through to a time when it gets easier. The key to online success is sticking with it. The challenges you’ll face early on might make you feel like you should give up, but if you don’t stick with it, you can’t succeed with it. Hang in there, and you’ll see the rewards before you know it.

Getting Started With Your Online Business

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Getting Started With Your Online Business

Recently we gave you some pointers on setting up your new online business. Once you’re all set up and ready to go, then what? There are some tips you’ll need to get off to the right start with your online business, and we’re going to share them with you now.

Take It Seriously

Just because you’re working for yourself, and you’re working out of a home office, that’s no excuse to slack off, and treat your work like it’s not important. Being your own boss requires a lot of dedication, and effort. You won’t succeed if you don’t buckle down, and work hard every day, just like you would if you were working for someone else. Once your business is up and running, and everything is going smoothly, you’ll be able to take the occasional long weekend, and be a little more flexible with your schedule, but when you’re starting out, you’ll have to work hard, and spend some long days working to get your business up and running.

Goals

It’s important to set yourself some goals to keep your efforts focused, and your business on track. That being said, it’s also very important to make sure those goals are reasonable. If you set the goal of making a million dollars in your first year of business, you’re probably not going to meet that goal. Instead, try to set goals based on your current business operations, and where you see them going in the near future. Instead of setting goals that are a year off, try to set goals that are only one or two months off. That way, you’ll always have an impending goal to work toward.

Budget

Running an online business doesn’t require a huge amount of money, but you will still need to spend some cash in order to keep things running. You’re going to need web hosting, and if you intend to do any email marketing, you’re going to need an autoresponder. Beyond that, your costs are going to vary depending on your marketing methods, and your overall business plan. If you have the budget to invest in high quality services, like video production, and professional writers, your business will benefit from it in the long run. Just be careful not to overspend. There are a lot of free services out there that match the features of the paid ones. For example, if you’re looking for software to manage your social media accounts, try Tweetdeck. It helps you to keep everything in one place, and you can run multiple Twitter, Facebook, Buzz, and Foursquare accounts from within it. Spend money when you have to, but spend wisely whenever you can.

Keep these tips in mind as you start out with your new business, and things should go smoothly.

Start Your First Website

Start Your First Website

If you’re interested in starting a website, but you’ve never done it before, there are a few things you’re going to want to know before you get started. You need a few essential tools and services before you can really get your site off the ground.

Hosting

You’re going to need a place to house the files for your new website. There are a number of hosting options available to you, some of which are free, some of which are extremely expensive. It’s important to know your needs before you pick a hosting provider. The free, and cheap providers tend to be lacking in functionality, so it’s important to know what features you intend to put on your site before picking a hosting provider. If you don’t plan on developing the site yourself, ask the developer you have hired what sort of features you’ll need, and whether or not they have any hosting recommendations.

Domain Name

Your domain name should be representative of the content on your site, and if possible it should include a keyword relevant to any searches your target audience might do. Your domain name should be short, and easy to remember. If you can get a .com name rather than a .net, .org, or any of the other suffixes, that’s best. Most people try to go to the .com version of a site first, and then think about the others. As with hosting, there are a number of companies you can register a domain with. In fact, the hosting company you’re using probably offers domain registrations.

Content

You’ll also need a website full of content. If you’re not comfortable designing your own site, you can always hire a firm or a freelance contractor to do it for you. There are also a number of freely available content management systems like WordPress that make developing a website much easier. No matter what your budget, there’s a way to get a site up and running. Once your site is up and running, you’ll want to add content on a regular basis. By updating a site frequently, you are actually boosting your search rank, as search engines look at how frequently a site is updated when determining search rank.

There are a number of ways to get a new site up and running, and no matter what your budget, you can get started in a short amount of time.

Get Your Website Up And Running On A Budget

Get Your Website Up And Running On A Budget

It’s extremely important for every business to have an internet presence in today’s economy, and that means having a website up and running. If you don’t have a big budget, that doesn’t mean you’re out of luck, it just means you have to know how to spend the money you do have.

There are a few expenses you’re going to have to drop money on regardless of your budget, and your skill set. You’re going to need a domain name for your new website. Registering a domain name is a quick and easy process, and it will only cost you around $10 per year. Once you have a domain name, you’re going to need to invest in a web hosting package. Web hosting can cost anywhere between five dollars a month, to several hundred a month. When you’re first starting out, even if you’re anticipating a lot of attention for your website, it’s best to go with one of the cheaper packages. Chances are you won’t need the features and benefits provided with the more expensive packages in the beginning, so don’t spend money on them.

Once you have a domain name, and a place to host your site, it’s time to worry about actually getting your site up and running. There are three routes you can go here. You can either build the site yourself, pay a freelancer to build it, or pay a firm to build it. There are a lot of great options for building your own site. Blogging platforms like WordPress can be installed directly to your hosting account for free, and they make set up a snap. There are also a lot of software options available to make designing a site easy. If you already have Microsoft Office, you probably already have Microsoft Publisher. Publisher makes it fairly simple to create a nice looking website in a fairly short amount of time.

If you really feel like you can’t handle setting up the website yourself, then you’re going to have to pay someone. If you’re on a budget, you’re going to want to avoid design firms. Their prices reflect all  of the costs involved in running a large company. Freelancers, on the other hand, will generally be able to product a high quality site for you for hundreds, rather than thousands of dollars. Just be careful about who you hire. Either use a site like Elance to find a designer, or get references from them before hiring them to do the job.

Don’t be fooled into paying exorbitant amounts of money for a website. By being careful with your money, you can get your site up and running quickly no mater what your budget is.

The Right Reasons To Work Online

The Right Reasons To Work Online

A lot of people really don’t understand the true benefits to starting an online business. Some people assume it’s a walk in the park, and starting an online business means you’ll have instant success, while others assume there’s no actual money to be made online. The truth of the situation lies somewhere in the middle.

Make More Money

When you’re first starting out with an online business, it’s not likely to generate anything above and beyond some additional income. You’re not going to want to quit your job today, and start your online business tomorrow – before your profits are going to soar, you’re going to have to put in a lot of hours for little gain. With dedication, and determination, you’ll make your way to high profits, but don’t expect the road to be a smooth one.

Work When You Want To

Running an online business does give you the opportunity to set your own schedule, but it’s important to keep in mind that you’e only going to get out of it what you put in. When you’re working for yourself, no one’s going to yell at you for getting up a little late, but if you don’t put in a full day’s work, don’t expect to see a full day’s return later on. When you’re starting out, it’s extremely important to dedicate as much time to your online business as you can. There’s always something more to be done, so don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.

Quit Your Job And Retire Early

If you get an online business off the ground, there’s a very good chance you’ll be able to quit your day job soon after. Retiring early is another story entirely. If you really throw yourself into your online business, and set aside as much of your profit as you can for a retirement fund, you might just be able to retire sooner than you think, but it won’t be easy. Planning for an early retirement with an online business means working very hard to ensure your business is extremely successful. It can definitely be done, but don’t expect it to happen without putting forth some effort.

Working online can lead to a lot of great things. Just remember, working online is still work. You’ll have to put in some effort to reap the rewards of having your own online business.

Social Bookmarking And Affiliate Marketing

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Social Bookmarking And Affiliate Marketing

If you’re at all familiar with online marketing, you probably know something about social bookmarking. For those not in the know, social bookmarking sites allow you to post links, and share them with other users. Most social bookmarking sises have a rating system in place where users can choose to vote a link up or down. If a link gets voted up enough, it gets featured on the site’s homepage. Now that you have a understanding of what social bookmarking is, you’re probably wondering exactly what it can do for you as an affiliate marketer.

The number one benefit social bookmarking can have for an affiliate marketer is that it can help you raise your search rank. Social bookmarking sites are among the most popular sites on the internet, and just having a link present on a social bookmarking site can help your site become more visible to search engines. Search engines determine a page’s value by looking at a variety of factors, one of which is the quality of sites that link to it. Social bookmarking sites have a high value  to search engines, so having a social bookmarking site link into your site will help to raise your search rank. When you’re running an affiliate website, it’s important to have a high search rank. Most of your traffic is going to come from search engines, and as such, using social bookmarking sites to boost your search rank is highly beneficial.

In addition to boosting your search rank, social bookmarking sites can also bring in a fair amount of traffic to your site. If you have a link on a social bookmarking site that gets popular, and makes it’s way to the homepage, it’s a safe bet that you’ll get a great deal of traffic to that link. It’s tough to get pages on affiliate sites to become popular on social bookmarking sites, but if your content is either extremely informative, or entertaining, it can definitely happen.

Social bookmarking sites can bring two of the most important things to your affiliate site: traffic, and a higher search rank. As your search rank goes up, so too will your traffic. As your traffic goes up, so to will your profits.Be sure to use good anchor text in your social bookmarking links, and you’ll see results in no time.

Use WordPress To Save Money And Add Functionality To Your Website

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Use WordPress To Save Money And Add Functionality To Your Website

For years, WordPress was used strictly by blogs, after all, that’s what it was built for. Recently, a lot of companies have started using it for their main website, and there are a lot of good reasons for doing so.

WordPress is very SEO friendly right from the start. Without making any changes, or adding any plug ins to WordPress, your content will be very search engine friendly, and easy to index. By adding an SEO oriented plug in, you can actually boost the SEO effectiveness of your WordPress site without having to hire an SEO firm, or a web developer.

Speaking of plug ins, if there’s a particular type of functionality you want your site to have, chances are a plugin exists to make it happen. Everything from playing audio files to adding a storefront can be accomplished through plug ins. Functionality that used to be extremely difficult to implement on a standard HTML website  can be up in running  quickly and easily through the use of plug ins.

Once the site is up and running, editing the content, or adding new content is extremely simple in WordPress. Each post and page can be edited  from  within WordPress, and if you can handle writing a document in word, you can write or edit a page in WordPress.

WordPress allows you to have multiple accounts set up that can make changes to the site. As such, it’s very easy to have several people working collaboratively on your website. This makes it easy for different departments within the company to edit different parts of the website.

The real benefit of WordPress is the money it will save you. After the initial set up, you won’t have to pay a designer to make any changes to your site for you. If you have someone tech savvy on staff already, you can even add new functionality through plug ins without having to get a developer involved. WordPress also saves you time by allowing you to make those changes as soon as the need arises, rather than waiting on a developer to add new content to the site for you.

WordPress saves you time, money, and allows you to add robust features to your website with a few clicks of the mouse, and it just keeps getting better as time goes on. What once was a piece of software created for blogging is now a robust content management system suitable for all of your website needs.

How Many Blogs Should You Own?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , ,

How Many Blogs Should You Own?

The number of blogs you should own is up for debate in a lot of forums and blogs that I read, so I thought I would weigh in on the topic.

I write for about 4 or 5 blogs as a writer personally, and I make sure that I do not take on more clients than that. I love the writing aspect of blogging, but not the promotion and business end of it. I prefer to write great content that brings visitors back again and again, and leave it up to the site owners to get the readers (you!). There is so much more to running a successful site than writing content and you must be conscience of that before jumping into 10 different niches.

With that being said, I think that the happy number of blogs you should own, at most is 4 or 5.

Why?

It really is simple, if you get stretched to thin trying to write on to many different topics and niches you are going to burn out really bad, really fast. It takes a lot of work to manage a successful blog. You need to write new content every day, do social media and promote the new posts, bookmark, do SEO, comment on other people’s blogs, post on forums related to your niche, and more. You simply can’t do it for more than 5 blogs, you will burn out.

Of course, if you hire out help for writing content, promoting the blog, SEO, and other aspects of your business, you can do more. But as a general rule if you are running the blog yourself no more than 4 or 5 blogs.

The reasoning behind this is because it takes about 1.5 hours per day to write that new content for each blog. Maybe closer to 2.5 hours, depending on your niches and how comfortable you are writing able them. So factoring that in, you have 2 hours per day in sheer writing on average, plush everything else you have going on. One tip, if you have 5 blogs, rotate your promoting every day. On day one promote blog A, day two blog B, etc. That way you can focus your energy on that one blog and not try to do everything at once.

Once you start getting traffic to your first few blogs you can start to expand, at this point you should have some cash-flow and be able to outsource some hired help to manage your blogs and update them for you. Focus your attention on what you are passionate about and write for those niches only at first, then build into other areas.
