Holiday Selling Tips for Affiliates – Part 2

So you’re an affiliate and are promoting products that may be of interest to shoppers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you do your campaigns the right way, you definitely stand to make some money from this popular holiday shopping event, as millions of shoppers go online to buy what they want instead of going to retail stores. Here are some final tips to help you run your affiliate campaigns:

Price is Important but So is Value

It is not enough for products to have a good price, they must also be valuable in the eyes of many shoppers. For this reason, you should try to put an emphasis on promoting online retailers that are known brand names and also emphasize products made by manufacturers which have a good reputation for quality. While it’s true that budget conscious customers may want to get the lowest price possible on a product that they want and won’t care whether it’s a “no name” brand, the majority of shoppers will be more comfortable with brands that they’ve seen before.

Know at What Times People Shop

Remember that online shoppers are human too and many of them will be working on Cyber Monday. Previous statistics show that traffic increases begin in the morning around 7 AM, then taper off at around 9 AM. Things start to pick up again after 5 PM when people return from work. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should only be running your ads and promotions during these times. After all, there are many people who can do their shopping from work or who won’t be working on Cyber Monday. However, you should keep in mind that traffic will be the heaviest during this period and you should therefore take action in order to profit from it.

Black Friday Isn’t Just one Day

If you’ve been watching some online shopping sites, you will find that many online retailers now begin their Black Friday promotions at the start of November, then make even bigger promotions and discounts on Black Friday itself. Bigger discounts for customers and better payouts for affiliates are common during that 24 hour period. Again, if you want to maximize your profits, don’t focus exclusively on that 24 hour time frame. Shoppers will begin searching for items to buy before that day.

Ensure Backup Plans are In Place

In internet marketing, things can sometimes go wrong. Retailers may change promotions, products or affiliate deals for whatever reason. Affiliate networks, merchant websites or tracking systems could run into problems due to technical failures or deliberate sabotage by DDOS attacks. Same goes for advertising services. While you may think you have a good strategy in place, don’t put all your eggs in the same basket. You should have preferred offers to promote, as well as preferred advertising channels, but you should always have a backup plan in place. This would mean that if something goes wrong, you can still make money, even if it’s not as much as you may have originally planned.

Is Your Facebook Page Not Giving You the Results You Wanted?

Is Your Facebook Page Not Giving You the Results You Wanted?

One question that some business owners ask is: why aren’t people actually participating on my Facebook fan page? The question isn’t one that’s easy to answer, as there could be a myriad of reasons as to why this is happening to you. Facebook is of course, the biggest social networking site around, with nearly a billion active users. So we all know how important it is for a business to set up their presence on the network. If you read any online marketing material that deals with social media, you will see the message: get on Facebook and promote your business. So you go out, create a page, then maybe add some content on a semi-regular basis. But it’s still not working out for you. The content is there, you may get some fans, but the “connection” with them isn’t happening as you may had planned before.

What you need to do is to actually motivate your fans, so that they will like your posts, comment on them, share their own ideas and also share the stuff that you’ve posted with other on their own profiles. But it’s just not happening and you’re now busy looking for what the reason is. This is something that you would need to identify yourself. Sure, you can hire an outside firm to do it for you and this is something that many businesses have done, usually with good results. But the problem here is that many small businesses, especially startups, don’t have thousands of dollars a month to spend on “social media experts” who will go over their pages and tell them what improvements to make.

In this case, you need to develop an action plan. This is actually the most simple part of the operation. You will plan what you should change about your social media presence and the steps that you will execute in order to get there. It may take a bit of time, so there’s no sense in rushing it at this point. Once you have everything planned out, it will be time to execute. Actually do the changes that you’ve planned out and carry out any improvements that you feel are necessary in order for your Facebook page to turn into something that is interesting to your users and actually profitable for your company.

The first step of the plan involves identifying the issues that are causing poor results. We’re going to present you a list of things that may cause your fans to be “less than enthusiastic” about your social media presence. We will also give you some ways that you can employ to change all of that and turn things around once and for all. Consistently applying these changes will get you what you were hoping for: a Facebook page this is more “alive”, that has fans which participate in the discussion, like your posts, add content and share some of the content that you’ve put up.

Content Types that Your Website Really Needs: Part 2

Content Types that Your Website Really Needs: Part 2

On the web, your website’s content is what will convince your website visitors to become paying customers of yours. Have poor quality content on your site and no matter how good your products may be, you will be causing many customers to flee to somewhere better. Yesterday, we’ve seen a few types of content that you may want to include on your website. Here are some more examples that will help you transform your website into a useful vehicle for acquiring new sales:

  • Optimized landing pages

The landing page is the first thing a visitor sees when they click on one of your ads. This is really the reason as to why you should work hard on creating landing pages that are efficient. The landing page should give sufficient information on the product to entice the buyer to make a purchase. It needs to be laid out in a neat way and keep the visitor’s attention focused on the content. Also, a clear call to action needs to be present.

Are your landing pages giving you the results that you want? The easiest way to find out is by trying out several versions and then split testing them to see which ones perform the best. Your landing page should be optimized for SEO and also have interesting content elements such as inforgraphics or video if you want it to have the maximum impact.

  • Industry specific guides and glossaries

Not everyone that visits your website is sure that the products you offer are right for them. If you sell something that’s simple enough, such as clothing and accessories, a user can simply browse through your site a bit to see if they like any of the items you have available. But in case you have products that are a bit more complicated, such as business telecommunication solutions, including some explanatory materials is definitely recommended.

You should give your visitors a good idea of how the technology that you’re selling works, which types of applications it is suitable for, as well as arguments that will try to convince the visitor that your products are right for them. Including a glossary which explains common industry terms is also recommended.

By having all of that on your site, you will transform it into an authority site, that has all the information that a visitor needs when they want to find out more about your niche. This will save them the trouble of bouncing around different websites as they do research to find if your products are right for them. Remember that if a visitor needs to access outside sources of information, they could see an offering for a competitors product, or get “lost” and forget that they’ve visited your site in the first place. Obviously, this can result in lost sales opportunities for you, but this can all be prevented by having the maximum amount of information available all on your website.

Protecting Your Online Business: Understanding the Types of Attacks

Protecting Your Online Business: Understanding the Types of Attacks

If you run any type of online business, knowing how to protect yourself from malicious attacks on your site is important. The simple reason behind this is that these attacks can affect your business in a very negative way and cause serious losses. One of the things that you need to do first is to understand the types of attacks that your online business could fall victim to. Here are the most common types:

  • Denial of Service Attacks

A Denial of Service (DOS) attack occurs when attackers flood a website with too many requests so that it goes offline as the server can’t handle the traffic. This has the effect of making your website unavailable.

  • Theft of information

This happens when hackers break into a site and steal sensitive information. This could include the personal information of your clients and members, or the contents of your email messages. This can lead to serious problems for those whose information was compromised as well as a loss of reputation for the business in question.

  • Site defacing

Pretty much a form of vandalism in the online world. A website is hacked and the home page is changed to a different message. Often times it would just be a “Hacked by (insert name here)” message, but can also take different forms. For example, your website could be redirected to another site, or it could be used to deliver malware. This can obviously make you lose revenue and affect the reputation of your business.

  • Affiliate link hijacking

This form of intrusion is a lot more subtle. A site that is compromised will have its affiliate links changed so that all sales go into the account of the hacker rather than yours. This could also be done with hosted pay per click ads, where the ad code on your site is replaced by that of the hacker. Users will not really notice anything too different about the site, but it obviously will make you lose revenue until you realize what is going on.

  • Comment and post spam

This is obviously a serious problem with any site that accepts user generated content, such as blog comments, forum posts or reviews. The spam is either done manually or through the use of automated tools. Usually, this can easily be recognized as the messages posted will look quite nonsensical and have links to websites that are completely unrelated to the context of your site. When done manually, it can be more subtle and be harder to detect. Having a site full of spam comments will reduce the user experience, as a legitimate visitor will have to wade through dozens of spam posts to find anything useful. Having such spam on your website can also affect your SEO and get you penalized by Google.

There are, however numerous ways that you can use to protect yourself from these attacks, which we will see tomorrow.

Is Google + a Good Business Marketing Tool? Part 2

Is Google + a Good Business Marketing Tool? Part 2

Previously, we’ve taken a look at some of the talking points related to Google +. There is still ongoing discussion as to how useful this new social networking service can be for businesses that are looking to establish or to increase their online presence. While it may look like Google + is nowhere near its rivals in the social networking sphere and recent numbers don’t look too encouraging, there are more points that someone will need to consider when evaluating whether establishing their business presence on the network will be worth the time. Here are some more points to consider about the site:

  • Some of the Top Businesses Have Already Established Their Presence on Google +

A study of the world’s top 100 brands by financial performance has shown that 64 of them have established a page on Google +. Statistics collected during the period from November to March 2012 show that these top brands have made more than 5 000 updates during that period. Furthermore, they have more than 250 000 “points of engagement”, which are responses to their updates, users indicating that they like the content (the “plus”) and the content being shared by the users.

Now ask yourself this: if the top players in the business world are doing something, shouldn’t you be at least considering it? These brands have become financially successful for a reason and creating a Google + page for your business will not cost you anything, just the time needed to create your profile and update it from time to time.

  • Not All Social Networking is Focused on the Consumer

One thing that creating a social networking profile can help you with is finding new business opportunities and connecting with other business owners. Remember that social networking use for businesses doesn’t have to be simply about interacting with consumers to sell them your products, but can also be used to network with other businesses. Data shows that business owners are increasingly using Google services and are including Google + as part of the list of websites that they check on a regular basis. Even though LinkedIn is currently the champion when it comes to business to business networking, Google + may have some interesting potential in this area.

  • Google + Pages Can Become Significant for Search Results

Search marketers may find it useful to create a Google + profile, if only for the possible SEO benefits that it can bring, either now or in the future. Again, the topic of whether Google + profiles will have a significant influence on SEO and search engine marketing in general is one that is now being talked about a lot in online marketing circles, with no clear answer being given. But in any case, it is highly possible that the Google + profiles, as well as individual pages and posts that a company makes could have some impact about how visible they will be in search engine results. Participating in Google + would then be seen as a low expense way of improving a company’s SEO standing.

Good Customer Service is Important for E-Commerce Websites

Good Customer Service is Important for E-Commerce Websites

Previously, we’ve seen an example of how you can improve your online shopping site by ensuring that your site is fully functional and easy for your customers to navigate. There is however another thing that is important when running an online shopping site: providing good service and support to your customers, both before and after they make a purchase.

The service level provided by an online business could also determine whether a visitor will turn into a buyer and whether someone who has already bought an item from your website will come back to buy from it again. Here are some ways to make sure that you provide the best possible service to the visitors on your site:

Pay attention to their comments.

If you have a social media page, pay attention to what the people on your wall are posting. Also, take into consideration any comments that they send to you by email. This could give you some good opportunities to improve your site and business, such as by getting a product that many customers would be willing to buy, or improving an element of your site.

Respond to emails promptly

Try to respond to emails from your customers within a few hours if possible. The faster you answer one of your customers, the more likely it is that they would be satisfied with your business.

Provide different ways to contact you and make it easy for your visitors to do so

Your visitors shouldn’t have to spend 15 minutes combing through your site to find a way to get in touch with you if they need to have a question answered. For this reason, you need to ensure that your contact information is featured prominently on your website. There are many different methods that you can use to provide support.

The most simple one is email. Simply provide an e-mail address on your website where your visitors can contact you. If you run a relatively small operation, this could be sufficient for you to provide support. You could also integrate a form on your website that your customers could fill out with their inquiries.

A live chat option is also possible to set up easily and there are even free scripts available that are provided by web hosting companies which could allow you to do so. One of the other ways that you can provide customer service is by phone. It is possible to get a toll free number that you can redirect to another phone. No matter what methods you use, simply make sure that you remain accessible to your customers.

After you’ve sold a product, it’s always a good idea to send a follow up message with a survey asking for feedback about your products and your business. This is another way to show to your customers that you care about their opinions and are available to solve any problems that they might have.

Some Tips on Interacting With Your Mailing List

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Some Tips on Interacting With Your Mailing List

Many online marketing experts will tell you something like “the money is in the list”. Well, this is actually true if you have a mailing list of interested and targeted subscribers who actually see a need to buy the products that you are promoting. But having good subscribers and lots of them is not the only thing that need to be important for you if you have a mailing list and send out newsletters. Even having 100 000 subscribers on your list will not do you any good if they never click on any of your links or even read your messages. Here are a few tips that will help your interactions with your mailing list become more productive and profitable for you.

  • Mind the Rate at Which You Send Out Your Messages

Unless you really need to send out daily updates for some reason (such as having a site that collects industry news each day), avoid sending out your newsletters too often. If they didn’t find anything too interesting in the first few days, many users will either unsubscribe or start ignoring your messages if you send them out too often. Remember, it is better to communicate with your list once a week and have some conversions on your products, rather than bombarding your subscribers with daily messages only to end up losing half of them before the month is over.

  • Include a Calls to Action

This doesn’t only apply to items that you are selling, but also if you are just sending visitors to your website for something, such as to read one of your blog posts, or to watch a video. Including a call to action will make it more likely that they will go ahead and visit your site.

  • Be Brief and Direct

Avoid making your email messages too long. People get dozens, sometimes hundreds of emails each day. They don’t always have the time to completely read each of them. If they see a wall of text, they just go into TL;DR (Too Long; Didn’t Read) mode and simply don’t pay any attention to the message. Keep your communications brief, direct and to the point. If you need to explain more or give additional information, link to a blog post or a page on your website. Websites and blogs are better made to convey longer information to your readers. Also, one of the goals of newsletters would be to get people on your site as well. From there, it is possible that they could buy something, or keep reading other things on your website for information on products and services that might be useful to them.

  • Include Contact Information in Your Messages

It happens that subscribers sometimes forget who you are, especially if they are subscribed to many mailing lists. Include things such as your email address for questions, the URL of your main business website, as well as links to your social media profiles. It will remind your readers as to who you are and also will give a more “human” feeling to your message, with ways for people to contact you if they want to know more about something they saw in it.

Understanding the Importance Of Long Tail Keywords

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Understanding the Importance Of Long Tail Keywords

If you are doing search engine optimization or search engine marketing, it is possible that you have seen some advice pertaining to long tail keywords. It is quite possible that you may have asked yourself: what exactly is a long tail keyword? And what benefit does it bring to my site exactly?

To give you a quick answer, long tail keywords are those which have more than 2 words in the main keyword phrase. What makes them so powerful is that these keywords are often what people search for when they are ready to purchase a certain product or service online. By making your site rank high for these keywords, you increase the chance that a buyer will see your site and therefore make a purchase from you.

Targeting long tail keywords during your online marketing efforts has a lot of advantages. Here are some of them:

These keywords convert better than general ones

Traffic that comes from long tail keywords is more likely to convert than traffic which comes from general ones. This is a known fact throughout the internet marketing industry. The reason behind this is because these keywords are a lot more targeted and specific than general ones. People who are searching for more detailed keywords such as “buy iphone” or “iphone discount” or “used iphone New York” are more likely to buy a product rather than someone who is just seeking for “iphone”.

You can put in your product name in them

Basically, people who are looking for a specific product online can be in two categories. They either have already made a decision to buy a certain product or they are seriously considering to buy it but they are seeking more information about it. In both cases, what you need to do is to target the necessary keywords and have a landing page that will be able to convince visitors that your product is exactly what they have been looking for.

Don’t require as much efforts to rank higher

In the internet marketing world there is plenty of competition. Unless you have a product or service that is extremely unique with no competition (highly unlikely… chances are somebody will copy you sooner or later) or is in a very obscure and specific niche, you will see others online promoting the same product or service that you are.

If you are in the dog training niche, you will see, for example that keywords such as “dog training” or “dogs” are already dominated by your competitors. The problem is that many of these competitors are large businesses which have a large budget and staff that is making sure that they stay on top of search engine results. Therefore, going against them is not the best idea. However, if you target a more specific, long tail keyword, such as “make your dog stop barking”, you will find that there are far fewer pages with that keyword phrase. This means that you will not have to do as much SEO work if you want to rank high for it.

An Overview Of Some “Make Money Online” Ads You Will Come Across – Part 3

An Overview Of Some “Make Money Online” Ads You Will Come Across – Part 3

“Earn money playing roulette” / “Guaranteed sports betting method” / Various gambling related products.

These are all advertised in a similar fashion. Someone claims to have developed an “ultra secret” method that would let them win at a game of chance (such as roulette or sports betting) and surprise, surprise, they are willing to share it with a “limited few exclusive buyers”… for a price, of course. Many people will (and rightly so), discard such ideas straight into the rubbish bin where they belong. But the language used on the page is especially designed to draw you in and to make you leave your reason and logic at the door. Don’t do that… Let’s analyze these claims a bit:

“Guaranteed to win”. No. Wrong. If there was such a system, then casinos and book makers would have all gone bankrupt by now. There are systems which can, if used properly, increase your chances of winning (slightly, only slightly). But none can guarantee that you will be able to walk away a winner every time. Gambling is a game of chance, not a way to make stable income.

“Super secret, only shared with limited amounts of people”. Lie. Big one on top of that. Their sites have been up for months, and sometimes even several year. Almost all have affiliate programs which encourage other marketers to re-sell the ever-so-secret system to others. Not exactly the type of thing you would engage in if you wanted to keep something “secret”.

And here’s the kicker, ladies and gentlemen. The site owner claims he has a system that can make you rich by gambling (which is super secret, don’t forget). Then WHY, oh WHY is he selling it? Doesn’t he make enough money already from using his system? Why does he care about the $39.99 or $77.77 or $99.97 that he will make by selling his system, if he can simply use it and win thousands every day?

Avoid these types of sites. The “systems” are usually little more than basic strategies you can find for free online or in any gambling book. If not, they are simply variations of the “martingale system” (doubling the amount of your bet every time you lose in a hope to eventually regain your losses and come out ahead) or simple bankroll management strategies that while they may increase your chances of winning, will not guarantee it and are also freely available online as well.

When searching for ways to earn money online, we can easily get sucked into beautiful marketing materials that promise everything. The important thing is not to stop using common sense. If something looks too good to be true, then it probably is. Before spending money on any “system” or “method” carefully examine all the claims and see whether they make sense to you or are simply hype.

Getting Approved For a CPA Account

It is a known fact that CPA networks are a great way to earn money online and have made many people very successful in the internet marketing industry. This is in part due to the fact that they have a wide selection of offers that can be promoted by their affiliates. When you join a CPA network, you will have the chance to run a variety of different campaigns, like trial offers, email submit offers, ring tone campaigns and more. The problem for many people new to the internet marketing industry is joining a network and getting accepted into one.

There is one main reason why CPA networks have gotten harder and harder to get into as an affiliate: increasing amounts of fraudulent affiliates singing up. Remember, CPA networks have a responsibility towards the merchants who run offers on them. If half of transactions made through the network end up being fraudulent, the merchant will often consider leaving the network. Furthermore, merchants do not want to pay for fraudulent transactions, so the network will often be left holding the bag if they have paid the affiliate but the merchant refuses to pay due to fraud.

Since you are a legitimate affiliate, you must make every effort to appear as one when you apply for a network. The first thing to do is to get a company name. Most of the fraud comes from “individual affiliates”, so simply registering a sole proprietorship such as “Max Marketing” will help a lot. The next thing is to get a domain name for your company, which you will use for your email. Your email should simply be something like “you@yourcompany.com”. You have to admit, it sound way more professional and serious than “cute_kitty_princess2839389@hotmail.com” or “bob_the_big_gangster2821@yahoo.com”.

While a website is not 100% necessary if you don’t plan to promote offers on your own site, it is still recommended that you set up a site for your company. It doesn’t have to be elaborate and have any bells and whistles. Just a one page site that you have done with a freely available template will do. Simply state what your company does and your contact details on the page.

Now comes the phone call. The vast majority of CPA networks will want to talk to you on the phone before accepting you into their network. Generally, they will call you within 2 – 3 business days. But if they don’t, go ahead and give them a call. This shows that you are serious about joining the network. During the phone call, you will be asked a few simple questions, such as your marketing experience, how long you have been doing internet marketing, which offers you plan on running, which other affiliate programs you are taking part in, how will you be promoting the offers (PPC, SEO, email, media buys, etc). Just have your answers ready and you should be able to get approved in no time.

The Essential Components Of A Strong Blog

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

The Essential Components Of A Strong Blog

No matter what your niche, it can be tough to launch a blog, and have it become popular. If you’re thinking of launching a new blog, there are a few essential elements you should include in it.

Domain Name

A strong domain name can help your blog in a few ways. If the domain name is short, and easy to remember, it will be much easier for your readers to browse directly to your site. It’s also a good idea to try and include keywords relevant to your niche in your domain name. If your domain name includes strong keywords, your site will show up higher in search results for those keywords.

Theme

It’s important that your site’s appearance reflect it’s purpose. Pick colors and imagery that directly reflect the subject matter of your site, and be sure to stick with that theme throughout the entire site, as well as in any videos you produce.

RSS And Social Media

It’s important to make it as easy as possible for your users to find, and share your content. You should include an RSS button on your site in a prominent place. Each blog post should also include links to automatically share the post on various social media sites, like Facebook, Digg, Twitter, and Reddit.

Affiliate Programs

Chances are, you’re hoping to be compensated for your time in some way when you launch a new blog. Sign up for some affiliate programs, and try to include affiliate links and other ads in each blog post. As you get more and more traffic to your site, you’ll also start to see more and more ad revenue.

Quality Content

If you want your new blog to succeed, you have to give your readers a reason to keep coming back. In other words, you have to provide high quality content for their enjoyment. You can choose to either entertain or inform your readers. If you’re going to entertain them, think about what your audience might find humorous or interesting, and try to craft a post around that. If you’re going to inform them, think about what problems your readers might have, or what questions they might be asking. Try to solve their problems, and answer their questions, and you’ll have some high quality content on your site in no time.

If you put these essential elements together to create your blog, you’ll be on your way to blogging success very quickly. If your users can find and share your high quality content easily, you won’t have any trouble building up; your traffic.
