Establishing Your Blog as an Authority in Your Niche

If you want your blog to become popular, you may have heard that it would need to become an authority in its niche. Many bloggers and online marketers wonder how this could be accomplished. The steps to take are relatively straightforward, however they will take time to complete fully. Here’s what you can do to put your blog on the road to being a respected site in its niche:

  • Create Quality Content for Your Blog

There’s really no way around this one. Your blog, in order to be viewed as an authority and respected by both readers and search engines, must have something interesting for the readers in it. This means that the content must be original and likely to appeal to your audience. Don’t just repeat what others have said, especially if you post on topics such as news. If you post about something that’s been in the news lately, for example the controversy surrounding the SOPA act in the United States at the moment, users will want to read something original about it and not just a rewrite of what the major press outlets have said. Add information from different sources. Add your own opinion, as well as the opinions of others. Include graphics, images and videos when it becomes necessary.

  • Participate in Niche Communities

Discussion forums, other blogs, social media pages, etc. are all great places where you can get some exposure for your blog. Include a link to your blog in your profile. Include a link to your blog in your forum signature. Share your blog posts with others when others whenever possible. People who are already interested in your niche are more likely to visit your blog and follow it if they find the content to be useful and interesting to them.

  • Make References to Previous Blog Posts and Link to Other Posts as Well

Make references to other posts in your blog when appropriate. This will increase readership of your other blog pages with your visitors and can also have some very good benefits when it comes to search engine optimization. Readers are more likely to come back to your blog if they find that it provides a complete explanation of the topics covered by having links to posts that are related to the current one that they’re reading.

Linking to and referencing other blogs is also recommended. While it may seem counter productive to send traffic to other websites without making any direct profit from it, remember that this is a blog and not a landing page for a product that you’re selling. In the blogging community, it is frequent for bloggers to link, quote and reference contents on other blogs and websites. It all comes down to sharing. Other blog owners frequently look at where their traffic is coming from and they’re likely to check out your blog too. This will give you opportunities to have your content shared and possibly even get you links on blogs and related niche websites too.

Proper Targeting is Important in Email Marketing

Proper Targeting is Important in Email Marketing

When you advertise through other methods, such as media buying or social media marketing, properly choosing the audience that will see your ads is very important. This is something that has been done by the best internet marketers ever since online advertising came into existence. In fact, it is also a concept that predates online advertising too. After all, you wouldn’t see ads for payday loan places or pawn shops in magazines whose readership is mainly comprised of millionaires. Even though the importance of proper targeting is well known, many online marketers don’t do any of it when it comes to email marketing campaigns.

They have one big list and apply a “one size fits all” approach to email marketing. Therefore, everyone on the list gets the exact same message sent to them. Now in some cases, such as if you’re only selling one main online informational product and you want to promote some of your secondary products that you own, this might be a good way to do things. After all, it’s simple, all you need to do is to create the email message, load up your list and then just fire away.

But if you have multiple products, several different kinds of customers, people who subscribed to your list for different reasons, or if you promote a diverse range of affiliate offers in your email messages, then properly choosing your audience would be beneficial for you. All that targeting does is ensures that your message will get to people who will be the most likely to buy the products that you’re promoting to them.

The first step towards targeting is personalization. At the very least, you can insert the recipients name in the email. Studies have shown that people are more likely to pay attention to a message that was directly addressed to them, as opposed to having a generic greeting such as “Dear Friend” or “Valued Customer”, etc. Using a script that handles your email marketing automatically makes it very easy to insert the clients name, as well as other attributes into an email message that you send to them.

Then, there is also the products that you present to your reader in the message. You need to think what different kinds of recipients you have and what products they would be more likely to get. Think about what kind of shopper they would be. Do they want something that is the cheapest item possible in terms of price, or are they looking for something that will be very useful and valuable for them, regardless of how much it would cost. Also, think of what category of items certain groups of subscribers would be most likely to buy from you. Tomorrow, we will see how you can get the right information about your list subscribers and then use that for your marketing efforts.

Promoting Your New Web Store – Part 3

Promoting Your New Web Store – Part 3

Once you are done promoting your web store socially, by letting others know about it, then there are some other methods that you can employ to promote your site to a wider audience, outside of your direct social circles both online and offline. Here are some common tactics used by small businesses everywhere that you can take advantage of:

  • Offline promotion

While the results may not be as direct and measurable as online marketing, offline promotion still works and is done by many small businesses, even if they primarily operate online and do not have a physical retail location at all. Here are some methods:

Passing out fliers and business cards

Here, you can print out some fliers, or simply some business cards and pass them out to people on the street. Of course, you can also pay someone else to do this for you.

Advertising in print media

While there are many newspapers that are having problems maintaining a readership, they are still surviving, which means people are still reading them. But one way to be more successful with print media ads would be to advertise in the right type of publication. It is possible to advertise in a “general” newspaper, but it would be better to do so in a more “targeted” publication, even though circulation may be smaller, the readers will have a higher chance of getting an interest in your website.

So if you are selling urban and trendy clothing, you may want to advertise in a local magazine that deals with hip hop music. Or if you are selling computers and electronics, then advertising in a publication about technology would be an excellent choice. The advantage of using print media today, is that many free magazines and papers have both a print and online version. Therefore, your ad will be available both online and offline as well.

  • Online Promotion

Here, you have a few other methods to choose from, but remember to focus on local customers first.

Online classified ads sites

These are probably the best choice for a start up web store. You can post a free ad on a number of online classified ads sites such as Craisglist, Gumtree, Kijiji, US Free Ads, etc. In many cases the ad is free, but you can pay for a small upgrade to get your ad featured on top of the list, or to have a border around it to bring attention to it.

Pay Per Click Ads and Media Buying

You can use pay per click ads or buy banner ad space on websites that have visitors from your local area. You can also advertise on search engines such as Google and the Facebook pay per click platform. A quick tip: take advantage of the free ad credits that many web hosts offer when you sign up. Most give you a $100 or so Google Ads voucher, as well as a $50 Facebook ads coupon. These can also be bought on many webmaster forums like Digital Point for around $5 to $10.

Commenting On Other Blogs in Your Niche

Commenting On Other Blogs in Your Niche

Commenting on other blogs in your niche is essential in order to get readers to come over to your own blog and to build relationships with other bloggers. This is sometimes an overlooked area of internet marketing and promotion for your website, and usually, it is done horribly wrong.

Readership

When going for readership with your commenting, make sure you create engaging and thoughtful arguments and conversation on the blog. If you disagree, disagree politely and state why you think it is wrong and what you think is right. Engage in the conversation. Don’t simply write “nice post,” but instead give insight into the topic, add to the list of reasons “x is so great” and offer some sort of value. If readers always see your name popping up next to smart responses they will be more likely to click on your name to see what you are about.

Build Relationship

Building a relationship with the author is essential. Reach out to them on social networks, on their blog comments, and through their contact form. Introduce yourself and state that you are in a similar niche and really like their work. Creating this relationship will help them recognize you on the blog, be more likely for them to subscribe to your blog, and will increase the chances of them linking to your blog and adding to your conversation as well.

Great Content

Give the people what they want – great content. It is no different than creating content on your own blog, give value and you will get value in return.

Real Name

Don’t use your niche or keywords as your name, you can on some occasions but trying to be more personal can go a long way. Don’t hide behind an alias, as you will have a hard time getting any response from that. If you want to use your keywords, insert them into your reply, or leave a link to your website in it’s entirety at the bottom of your post (make sure you have awesome content or you will risk being marked as spam, and even some spam bots will register you, so be careful with this one).

Never, Ever Spam

Don’t spam other bloggers. Think about how much you hate when you have people spamming your articles on your blog, so don’t do it to them. Create engaging content that will create a sense of urgency and interest in checking out your own work.

How-To Generate Leads through Blogging

How-To Generate Leads through Blogging

The toughest challenge for all online business owners or even offline business owners with an online component is driving traffic to their website. And of course, just having any old person visit your website is no good if they aren’t interested. Owners want and need targeted traffic, which basically means that they need a bunch of people visiting their website all of which are interested in what they have to sell. The best way to gain this targeted traffic is through a weblog, which have become more commonly known as just blogs. Blogs help your business gain credibility on the subject of your product along with that targeted traffic that was mentioned before. These two products of your blog will go hand in hand in generating you and your business more sales.

Now, you might be wondering why a blog is suggested when most of them on the internet just sit there not being read. We have to take into account that about half of these are personal blogs, which no one cares about, and another big majority are spam blogs, which either copy posts from other blogs, or are just full of ads trying to sell products that don’t even work. Of course, blogs don’t work overnight. It does take a while to gain readership and a good reputation. Plus, if you try heavily advertising straight away, people will probably think you are another one of the spam blogs, and just leave.

There are many important aspects of your blog that you must pay attention to when building it. One is structure, where you must build up to your product with actually useful information. No one will buy what you’re selling without you first convincing them to do so, and then when you do plug your product, you should still do it subtly. You must also promote your blog, and thereby your website. There are many free and paid ways to do this, but after research, the free way is recommended, because it allows for about the same exposure if done correctly as the paid options will provide.

Remember, everything is what you make of it. If you don’t put much work into your blog, and just let it sit there without updating it, it will fail. If you pile ads on it, it will fail. You need to take time, and put content on there that will be useful to your customers, and interest them in the product that your business offers. Otherwise, you will be wasting what little time you are even putting into it.
