Make Your Employees Involved In Social Media

Make Your Employees Involved In Social Media

When companies decide to be present on a social media site, one of the most important decisions they need to make is who will be responsible for determining which content gets posted on the company’s social media accounts. Now if you have a very small business with just 2 or 3 employees, this isn’t too hard to figure out. But if your business is slightly larger, you may be wondering as to whether it would be useful to get everyone’s input, or just let a small social media team handle everything.

Having everyone involved doesn’t mean that everyone, from the CEO to the janitor, will have the authority to post things online on behalf of your company. If you’ve followed the news in the past few months, there have been a few controversial issues where offensive Tweets were sent out or inaccurate product information was posted, causing confusion and dissatisfaction among consumers.

You should have a select group of trusted people who will be responsible for maintaining the social media accounts and have access to make posts. However, it doesn’t mean that only these people will have a hand at coming up with some content. Check with several people in your company to get their ideas on what you should post. For example, if you recently got a lot of emails from customers that are waiting to receive a product whose shipment was delayed by a few days, you could make a post on your Facebook and Twitter pages giving everyone an update on when it’s expected to ship.

If you have an employee that is an expert at something that could be useful to post on your page, such as infographics or short videos, you can ask them for ideas on what they think would be useful to post and have them create the content.

Encourage your employees to regularly check out your social media page and to pay attention to it. This can be extremely helpful. If there is a mistake or inaccuracy, you will have a higher chance of rectifying it, as perhaps you and the social media management team may not notice it right away. One of your employees may also notice a trend related to posts made by your followers on social media. This will help you take a more closer look at it and see if there’s anything you can improve.

Another good reason as to why your employees should pay attention to social media is that it may get you some insight on what is happening with your competitors and in your line of business in general. Encourage your staff to look through related social media pages to see what’s happening, but to do it in a way that doesn’t interfere with their normal duties. They may be able to find some useful information that you might have otherwise missed.

So in the end, while you should be careful as to who has actual access to your accounts and can make posts, don’t be afraid to let all of your workers give ideas and suggestions on what you should do with social media.

Profiting From Tablet Devices: Part 2

Profiting From Tablet Devices: Part 2

Yesterday, we’ve seen some ways that you can profit from the increasing number of people who are interested in using a tablet as their secondary, or maybe main internet access device. There are a few more ways for entrepreneurs to make money from them. Here are some more ideas that you may want to consider:

  • Developing and marketing apps

As the amount of tablet users grows, so does the demand for applications that run on the common tablet platforms like iOS and Android. In the last 2 years, the demand for these apps has, in fact, exploded. Businesses are looking for a way to get their brand better known and would love to have an app made for tablets. Software developers are looking to cash in on this new trend by making various kinds of programs that can run on these devices.

So if you have some experience developing software, you could make some money either by creating apps that someone else requested, or by coming up with unique ideas for apps and creating your own. One business model that works really well for many tablet apps like games and accounting tools is the “freemium” one. The basic version of the app is free, but in order for the user to unlock more levels, or to get a more powerful version of the app, they would need to pay a small amount. This helps draw users attention to the application and like it, they may want to spend some money in order to upgrade.

Furthermore, it is also possible to integrate ads in some types of apps, which means that you can profit either from selling a paid version of the app, or get ad revenue from the free version.

  • Selling Tablet Insurance

When spending anywhere from $200 to $700 on a tablet, people naturally want to protect their investment. Obviously, there’s a manufacturer’s warranty available, but the problem is that it only covers manufacturing defects for a year or so and nothing more. Mobile devices that people often take with them anywhere they go are naturally prone to some hazards such as accidental damage, loss or theft.

There is a small, yet growing market for mobile device insurance, which provides repair or replacement in case someone’s device gets lost, stolen or damaged. While selling insurance can sometimes be a bit complicated as you would have to follow some regulations and obtain the proper permits in many jurisdictions, it can still be quite a profitable venture if you’re willing to try and enter a relatively new industry and act as a true entrepreneur.

These were some ways to make money with the rising popularity of tablet PCs. Of course, there are definitely many more that you can find if you make a bit of effort and research some money making opportunities.

Smartphone Searches Much More Likely to Convert

Smartphone Searches Much More Likely to Convert

Smartphone usage has been seen in different ways by marketers all around the world. As an ever increasing number of consumers now use the internet on a mobile device, this naturally brings in more opportunities that a a lot of online marketers have been nothing but happy to take advantage of. But for some, learning to market to mobile users has been a bit complicated. It’s true that mobile users share many similarities to those on PCs, in fact most consumers that have a smartphone also use the internet on a regular PC. But the way that marketing should be done, as well as the expected results are quite different.

One thing that marketers have often questioned themselves about is whether mobile ads have a higher conversion rate than ads geared towards PC users. The answer, of course, will vary depending on the niche of your website and the marketing channels that you are using. But as a general rule, mobile ads will bring a higher conversion rate, especially in the select industries of dining, auto and travel.

In fact, the numbers are in from a Nielsen Panel that surveyed over 6000 smartphone users. The conversion rates may look surprising to a few. Results show that 85% of searches for dining, 51% of automotive searches and 46% of travel related searches result in a purchase made the very same day. This is a simple fact that marketers should not ignore if they want to experience success. Smartphone users are more likely to be “ready to buy”, while PC users may be unsure or still in the “comparison shopping” phase.

It doesn’t take a marketing expert to figure out why. People use their smartphone quite often when they need to find something quickly and don’t have the time to do intense research. They’re searching for a product that will fill a need and when they find it, they’re quite likely to buy it if the attributes of that product and the price range is acceptable to them.

Take someone who is traveling to a city they’ve never been to before. They’re sitting in their hotel room and are wondering which restaurants are nearby. They do a search for a type of restaurant that they would want to eat at. They then see a list of results. It is quite likely that they would just look at the pages of one, two, maybe three restaurants before heading out and getting their food.

For automotive, many users who do a search need to find a replacement car part quickly. With travel, it’s quite possible that the user needs to travel urgently to their destination and are looking to find transportation that will get them there, whether it’s by bus, train or air.

But how do marketers ensure that they’re able to capture the attention of those mobile searchers and make the sales that they need to keep their business going? It’s actually quite simple, but may demand some adjustments for certain marketers. Tomorrow we will take a look at a few techniques that can be employed to increase success.

Is There a “Best” Way to Market a Small Business Online?

Is There a “Best” Way to Market a Small Business Online?

One of the questions that comes up very often in online marketing forums is something similar to this: “I own a business in such and such industry. What is the best way for me to do internet marketing?” The problem with that question is that there is often no one specific answer to it. The world of online marketing is a very vast and diverse one, with many methods, techniques, tools and services that you can use to accomplish your goals, whether these are to get more visitors to your sites, to promote a specific product that you’re selling, or to get more exposure for your business.

The exact methods that you use will largely depend on who you are and what you’re trying to do online. But in the majority of cases, it is not just one marketing method that should be used, but a combination of several of them. What will be variable, however, is the degree of attention that you will give to each of these methods.

If you’re trying to get your business more recognized and known as the leader in its field in your local area, then using search engine optimization is a must, as you will need to ensure that people who search for what you have to offer will be able to find your business. A large number of people use search engines when shopping for something, so it is imperative that your site can be easily found by them. But SEO is not the only way to do this. If you want the best results, you should use a few complementary methods to get the word out.

You can, for example, make posts on local online classified ads websites. Or you could buy advertising space on websites that are related to your niche, or frequently visited by people from the area served by your business. To gain more visibility, it would also be a good idea to create pages for your company on the popular social networking services.

Once you see that you are getting results, you can keep your website visitors interested in what you offer by offering an email newsletter that they can subscribe to. You can also create a blog where you keep users updated on new happenings in your industry, as well as new products that your business has to offer them.

As you can see, there isn’t really a “quick” solution to marketing a local business on the internet. You should spend some time putting together a complete online marketing strategy where you will think about your goals, as well as the methods that you want to use to accomplish them in the online world. Remember that it is also important to keep track of your progress, as this will let you know which areas of your marketing plan are working well and which others may need a little bit more attention so that you can improve them and make them work as efficiently as possible.

Twitter Changes The Way it Does Promoted Tweets

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Twitter Changes The Way it Does Promoted Tweets

Advertising on Twitter is somewhat different than what you would see on most other social media websites. Twitter, a popular microblogging platform, has grown to be used by millions of people around the globe who use it to share information with their followers, as well as by businesses who create a profile on the site and keep their clients and potential clients in the know about what is going on in their company. We’ve previously discussed some of the ways that one can join Twitter and start using it to promote their business. However, there are some other advertising options available to Twitter users as well.

Just like any other social media website, Twitter needs to have businesses which pay to have their ads seen if they want their social network to keep functioning. One of the ways that Twitter would do this was by making Promoted Tweets available to their business users. A company would first need to write a regular Tweet and post it so that it’s seen by all of their followers. This can give a company a lot of exposure in itself, especially if they have thousands of highly targeted followers that are paying attention to what they’re tweeting. But there is a way to get even more exposure for your message: sending out a Promoted Tweet. This tweet would be the same one that you posted to all of your followers. However, it does have one main difference: instead of being promoted to just your followers, it would get sent out to a much larger audience. This provides your business with a lot more views for your Tweet, and of course it gives Twitter the revenue that it needs to keep their service running.

There has been a slight change to the way Twitter handles sponsored tweets in the last few days. It’s not really much of a radical change that will shake the world of social media forever, but it’s still worth noting. Advertisers that send out Promoted Tweets will no longer have to create a “regular” tweet and send it out to their followers. They can go straight to making a Promoted Tweet and sharing it with the world of Twitter users, based on certain targeting factors such as demographics and the geographic region of the user.

According to internet marketing news updates, Twitter will be encouraging advertisers to make their promoted tweets look similar to regular ones. Promoted tweets that see more user engagement may “appear more often”, according to information from Twitter.

If there’s one thing that can be learned from Twitter is that it’s possible to have a social networking site that is both popular and profitable, without cluttering up the page with 10 different ads all over the place. Promoted tweets are seen as a lot more “friendly” and unobtrusive by Twitter users than the standard text or image ads that are seen on other social networking websites.

Changes to Facebook Advertising and the Benefits it Could Bring You

Changes to Facebook Advertising and the Benefits it Could Bring You

Having a page on Facebook for a business or product is obviously the first step to take when leveraging the potential of social networking. Then comes getting people to subscribe to the page. But in order for a page to be useful as a marketing platform, the posts will need to be seen by a good portion of the subscribers.

The standard way of determining who gets to see your updates and posts in their news feed is by using the Facebook EdgeRank which aims to deliver to the user content that is the most relevant to them based on their interests and activity on the site. But for businesses that have just gotten started with Facebook marketing, this may make it a bit difficult for them to get the kind of exposure that they want. It needs to be remembered that few users will manually check for updates on the fan pages that they’re subscribed to.

The promoted post is the answer to this. When you make a post to your Facebook page, you will have the opportunity to promote your post and make it appear in the news feed or a larger percentage of your users. This gives the post a better “reach”. Obviously, the more users that see the post, the more effective it will be at promoting your business. Users who otherwise may not have even known that the post existed would see it and can potentially take action on it if they like what they see. This takes them to your page where they can see the other posts they’ve missed, where there is also a chance that they will take action such as clicking a link that goes to part of your website.

Another, less expensive advertising solution which is common on sites like eBay and classified ads websites is to highlight your story in the users news feed. More attention is drawn to it and therefore the user is more likely to notice it, then take an action if they want to explore the post further because they found it interesting or relevant.

There is also a solution for businesses who want get more “Likes” on their page. Again, it is based on an existing concept. When the Facebook friend of a user likes a certain page or otherwise interacts with it such as by posting a comment, the update can be displayed in the news feed. However, it is not always too visible.

Sponsored stories is the solution to that problem. Now, more users will be able to see when one of their friends interacted with your page. You can also control your spending better, by specifying an “Objective” for your sponsored story, such as showing this to users that are the most likely to like your page or the most likely to click on your sponsored story to check it out.

SEO Considerations for Blogs: Internal Linking

SEO Considerations for Blogs: Internal Linking

When it comes to SEO, whether it’s for blog or any other type of website, everyone knows the importance of having a good linking strategy. Now most people associate linking with building backlinks. These are the links that are found on external websites which point to your blog, or to specific pages that you have on your blog. So if one of your articles gets referenced on another blog, or if you include the URL to your blog on your social media profile, for example, then this would be a backlink. Having plenty of good quality backlinks is widely known to have SEO benefits for any website and this is why plenty of people devote a lot of time and attention to getting them.

Of course, since they are useful for SEO, this is not a bad thing. However, there are other considerations that would need to be taken by those who would like their blogs to rank better in search engines. This would be the internal linking, or how pages on your blog are linked together.

One of the top reasons as to why internal linking is good is that it will help search engine spiders navigate your blog a lot easier. By making the job more simple for them, you will increase the chances that your pages get indexed a lot faster. Another element is the user experience. A proper internal linking strategy means that your readers will be able to quickly find what they’re looking for in your blog. They’re also more likely to spend time on your blog reading other entries, which can increase interest in your blog, grow your ad revenue and also increase the chances that content will be shared. A reader may not think the first post that they were reading was worth sharing on Facebook, for example, but they may like another one of your posts that they’ve clicked on and share that.

Good internal linking is easier than building external backlinks. Simply put, if you refer to a topic that was covered in a previous post, link to it and use the appropriate anchor text. Furthermore, if your blog allows readers to navigate to next or previous posts, then don’t leave this text as the default setting. Instead of using “next”, you should include the actual title of the blog post that the reader will be sent to as anchor text.

Another of the important things to remember is that you need to structure your blog well. Every page should have a link back to the home page. Also, your posts should be categorized according to what topic they are covering. This will not only help the readers find specific information that they may be interested in, but it has also shown to be helpful with SEO, as a blog that has posts in different categories is seen as being more of an “authority” in its niche by the search engines.

Understanding the Target Market for Your Info Product

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Understanding the Target Market for Your Info Product

If you’re going to be selling an info product, one of the things that you need to do to get the most sales is to understand who your target audience really is. This will help you set the price of your product at an appropriate level and also advertise, promote and market your product through the right channels. Understanding your audience means knowing who your potential buyers are going to be, as well as how much they would be willing to spend in order to find a solution to their problems or to answer the questions that they have. Here are some questions to ask yourself about your buyers:

  • How Motivated are They to Find a Solution to Their Problems?

Are your buyers people who are going to be really hungry for the information, or are they going to be people who will be merely curious about the niche? For example, if you create a beginners guide to online marketing, chances are that your buyers may not know that much about the niche and would be simply curious to see how online business works. However, if you’re selling a complete course on using social media to make money online, your buyers will already have some knowledge about the topic and have a stronger interest in it.

  • Have They Already Seen Plenty of Ads for Similar Products?

This depends on just how “unique” your product is. Is there a high chance that your potential buyers have already seen information about competing products and maybe even bought some of them? In this case, the price of your product will be a bit more important, as you will be competing for your buyers attention with other products out there.

  • Is Your Product Aimed at Newbies or People Who Already Have Experience?

Products that are at the introductory level and aimed at newcomers to a certain niche will usually do better if they’re priced at low, attractive rates such as $9.95 or $14.95. People who already have experience in a certain niche and are looking to expand their knowledge, on the other hand, are often willing to spend more money to get that information. They would be happy to pay more, as long as the product that they would be getting will genuinely give them what they’ve been looking for.

  • Do Your Buyers Spend a Lot of Time Online? What Sites do They Visit?

Knowing this will help you with your marketing and advertising. Is your target audience known for spending a lot of time on the internet each day? What kind of websites do they usually frequent? Do they visit niche related sites such as discussion forums? By knowing this, you can have a better idea as to where you can advertise your product for maximum exposure to your targeted audience. Remember that the more targeted your advertising will be, the more likely it will end up being seen by someone with an interest in what you’re going to be selling them online.

Building Links to Your Site: More Strategies

Building Links to Your Site: More Strategies

Many webmasters are looking for ways to get an increased amount of links to their site. Link building strategies are often discussed in webmaster circles and are nothing really new. However, for those who are new to link building, here are some excellent ways to get high quality backlinks that search engines like Google will love. By using some of them you can increase the amount of one way backlinks that your site receives, helping you with SEO and potentially getting you some traffic directly from other sites as well.

  • Make guest posts

By guest posting on other blogs, you will get the opportunity to get a link back to your website in exchange for providing content to the owner of the blog. There are plenty of blog owners who would love to get some original articles posted to their blog on a regular basis and one way that they do this if they don’t want to pay someone else to write them is to invite guest blogger to make the posts for them in exchange for a backlink.

  • Write a press release and get it syndicated

A press release could be an article which talks about something new that is happening in your niche, such as a survey, poll or analysis that you’ve done. By submitting your press release to syndication sites such as PR Web, you could get some good backlinks and also some traffic coming in from the press release itself.

  • Write articles and get them syndicated

There are a lot of good quality article directories out there where you can submit an article with a backlink to your website. Some, such as Idea Marketers, allow syndication, which means that your article, including the resource box that has the link to your website, can be republished on other sites, blogs or directories. This means you will get the opportunity to get even more backlinks to your website, in addition to having the content that you’ve written seen by more people than before.

  • Use online classified ad sites

Free online classified ad sites such as Gumtree are often used by marketers for various reasons. While they may not work for all types of businesses, they can still be a good choice, especially if your site is selling something or providing a service. Not only will you be able to get some traffic coming directly from the classified site, but also you can get some backlinks to it by including your website link in the ad. For some ad categories, classified ads sites also rank quite high in search engine results.

  • Offer to do reviews and testimonials

Many companies would love to get a testimonial or positive review from you on their website. This is because it can increase their conversion rates quite well. Simply ask if you can also include a link to your website with your testimonial.

Building Links to Your Site: Which Content Works Best

Building Links to Your Site: Which Content Works Best

We all want high quality back links to our website. But what kind of content do you need to add to it in order to make other people want to link to it? Getting natural backlinks from other sites that are interested in what you’ve put on yours is a great way to increase your SEO rankings. Remember, the more interesting and useful your content is, the more likely it is to draw attention and make other webmasters want to link to it. Here are some examples about the type of content that you can post on your website or blog:

  • Web based tools

Sometimes, a text resource or a video just won’t be the answer that someone is looking for. However, a web based tool might be the answer for them. For example, a simple tool that checks the keyword density of an article or website, or one that analyzes the SEO worthiness of a site, etc. If you don’t have coding experience, you can easily outsource the creation of a simple web based tool for less than $50.  If people find it useful, chances are they will link to it on their own site.

  • Flash games

Flash games are one of the pieces of online content that are the most linked to in the online world. This is simply due to their popularity. If you create an original game that plenty of web users find fun and entertaining, then there is a high chance that a lot of them will link to it.

  • Be among the first to talk about an issue

One of the reasons people get online is to find information about something that has happened recently in a niche that they’re interested in. Be among the first to post an article on your blog about the news. Offer some interesting commentary or analysis about it. If you do it right, then you can have a good amount of backlinks coming in to your website before you even know it.

  • Create a resource for beginners

No matter what your niche is, chances are that you can create a quick guide that will help beginners understand it and get on the right track. Some niche site owners may get questions from beginners but don’t always have the time to answer them or to write content that will address these questions. This explains why simple and informative beginners guides are linked to very often from other websites related to the niche.

  • Create content with long term potential

Not all the content on your website or blog needs to be related to new happenings or something that is popular now but will be forgotten in the next 2 weeks. Content that has long term popularity potential is simply content which will remain useful for years to come. For example, you can post information on how to fix common computer problems or advice on choosing the best hosting company for those who want to start a website. Posts that were written 2 or 3 years ago on these topics are still relevant and useful today, thus giving them the long term potential that they need.

Tips for Promoting Your Blog: Part 2

Now that you know about the importance of good SEO, as well as inclusion in your email marketing, plus linking from your main site is important, you may be wondering if there are any other tips that you can apply to promote the blog you’ve just build and get a steady stream of interested visitors. There are a few final tips that I’m going to share with you regarding how to accomplish this easily. The key here would be integration with other marketing efforts, which will result in plenty of good traffic if you’re diligent and patient in your traffic building efforts.

Be Social

Social media is a topic that comes numerous times when discussing traffic generation techniques as well as internet marketing in general. This is not without good reason: the majority of people visit social networking sites, so the traffic on these sites is already there. You just need to direct it to your blog. The two best examples in this case would be using Facebook. When you post a new article in your blog, share it on Facebook. Readers will see the title of the post and a summary, where they can click through to your blog to read more if interested. For Twitter, just send out a Tweet about the update and include a link.

Also, don’t forget to include buttons so that users can like and share your posts on their social networking profiles, thus giving you exposure to their friends and followers, generating a potential for more traffic in the process.

Use RSS

RSS feeds are a good way to get people to follow your blog in a way similar to following someone on Twitter or Facebook. When they subscribe to your RSS feeds, people will be able to see in their browser if you’ve made a new blog post. If it’s something that interests them, they will then click through to your blog and read the article you just posted.

Be Patient

Building a steady amount of traffic to a blog is something that takes time and patience. It’s quite unlikely that you will receive thousands of daily visitors after just taking one of the actions presented here. But keep posting good content and keep using the techniques shown here and you will soon start seeing a few visitors on your blog. This can grow in time, you will just need to be patient and continue blogging and actively taking efforts to generate more interest and thus more traffic on the blog you’ve built.

Be Creative

You’re not limited to what was presented here when it comes to getting traffic. Think up of your own strategies to bring in high quality visitors and read up more about things such as social media, SEO and traffic generation to blogs. You may discover some new methods and techniques that you will want to try, which may very well be the solution that you were looking for to finally get the amount of visitors you wanted.

Are MLM Opportunities a Good Way to Earn Money? Part 3

Are MLM Opportunities a Good Way to Earn Money? Part 3

Previously, we’ve seen some of the issues regarding making money online with MLM offers. But what if you’ve decided that you would like to make some money with them? Here are a few tips that will help you profit from this kind of business opportunity.

  • Don’t stay stuck on only one opportunity

If you take a look at some of the leaders in the MLM business opportunity world, you will see that they participate in various different money making opportunities. The reasons are simple: if one opportunity dries up, there are others that can be scaled up to make more money. Therefore, don’t get attached to only one program and treat MLM opportunities for what they really are: a vehicle for you to make some money.

  • Choose business opportunities with good products

The product is an important part of any business opportunity. There are certain things that you need to ask yourself about it: is it something that is really useful? Is it priced in a way that will enable you to make a decent profit from selling the product instead of constantly hounding others to become distributors? It is something that will last for at least a few years, or just a fad that will be over in a couple of months?

  • Go with MLM opportunities that do not focus exclusively on promoting to friends and family

While some people may be able to pull this off with success, promoting to friends and family is not the best way to go. Sure, a few may sign up, but if you limit yourself to just people you know, then you have a limited pool of prospects, who are actually low quality prospects to begin with (they probably aren’t interested in a business). A good business opportunity to take part in is one that will provide you with some tools and training on generating leads and prospects by advertising online.

  • Join an opportunity early

This gives you a good advantage over those who come later on. There will be less marketing material online about the business that you are in, meaning that you will be dealing with a lot less competition when you start out. Essentially, this will make acquiring leads and prospects, as well as clients who are interested in the products, much easier than an opportunity where there are already hundreds of thousands of distributors competing for the same resources.

  • Learn independently

While many MLM businesses give you some training materials on how to make your business grow, there is plenty of third part material available online for free that will teach you how to do that as well. You may even discover some things that you didn’t know and that wasn’t covered in the training materials of your business opportunity. Therefore, if you want to succeed, you need to be able to find information independently and use that information to build and grow your business as needed. Spending a few hours a week on research and learning can definitely go a long way.

Improving Conversion Rates on Your Website: Some Tips – Part 1

To get people to buy your products and services in the online world, we all know that you need quality traffic. This is basically visitors who are interested in buying what you are selling and that have visited your site for that reason. However once they are on your site, there are certain things that you need to do in order to increase the number of visitors who will actually convert into a sale.

Of course, it is not possible to convert every visitor on your website into a customer. There are various types of visitors on your website and there are many reasons as to why somebody may not want to buy something from you, at least not at the very moment. Now why would visitors leave without buying? Here are some reasons:

  • The visitor was simply doing research. This happens quite often. The visitor may have been just curious about what your products are and how they function, but was not really ready to buy any of them. He may have been comparing prices between various different sellers online. Or maybe it was a student who was writing a report on your industry, etc.
  • Your prices were not satisfactory to the visitor. Basically, the visitor had an interest in what you had to offer, it is just that he found the prices too high and thinks that it is possible to get a better deal somewhere else.
  • You don’t have the product that they want. Your visitor was looking for something specific and you either didn’t have it, or it was listed as out of stock.
  • The terms of the purchase were not suitable for your visitor. This could mean various things. The visitor may have wanted to pay with PayPal but you only take credit cards. If you offer a service, such as a voicemail service or webhosting, you might have required that the visitor take a contract and pay you for several months in advance, which they weren’t willing to do. If you are shipping merchandise, maybe you weren’t shipping to his country, or the delivery methods weren’t suitable for him.
  • Your site was not functioning properly. There is something that you need to face: people have short attention spans. Also, there is competition out there. Unless you are offering something that is very unique and impossible to find anywhere else online, you will have competitors who are selling the same thing than you. Now the issue here is that if a visitor finds that your site is difficult to navigate, slow, or has error messages cropping up all the time, they are most likely to simply leave and look at another site. Very few people are going to keep hitting F5 because they got a “500 Internal Server Error” when they were checking out for an e-commerce purchase.

These are all things that you need to think about if you want to be a successful online merchant. Tomorrow you will see more tips on improving conversions.

Using Fiverr to Make Money: Part 1

A lot of people have heard about Fiverr.com, which is a type of freelancing website that allows you to do two things: both hiring people to do certain tasks and doing the tasks yourself. You can actually profit from the site both as a buyer and as a seller. But first, let’s take a look at what the site is and how it actually works:

All the tasks, called “gigs” cost $5 and you cannot change that amount. So this makes it suitable for relatively short tasks that do not take much time to complete. Now some people wonder how Fiverr makes money from people who use the site. In reality, their business model is very similar to how other freelancing sites function. They take a small commission from the amount that someone gets paid when they do a gig. At Fiverr, that amount is $1. So the buyer pays $5 to have a gig done. The person who provides the service gets $4.

Fiverr uses PayPal as their (only) payment system as of right now. The buyer deposits funds and then can buy some gigs. As a seller, you can withdraw funds to your PayPal account when you have earned some money doing gigs. However there is something very important that you need to consider: as a security measure, the amount can only be withdrawn 14 days after the gig has been completed. So you don’t really get paid “instantly” as you need to wait 2 weeks before you can transfer the funds over to your PayPal account.

Now, as a seller, what kind of gigs can you provide that will allow you to earn some money?

The most popular ones are:

  • Article Writing

Usually involves writing articles or blog posts that will be used as web content. Very easy to do, all that you have to do is to write an article based on the requirements of the buyer.

  • Website Creation

You can create a small website that has a few pages for the buyer. Also, there are many buyers that need a landing or squeeze page done in order to market affiliate offers online.

  • Social Media Marketing

Do you have a Facebook fan page or a Twitter account with thousands of followers? In that case, you can offer to put up a promotional message on your social media page to advertise the website of the buyer.

  • Video Creation

This usually involves you talking about a product or service that somebody else is promoting online. However there are also plenty of other topics that buyers request videos to be made for. If you like making videos, this could be an interesting gig for you.

  • Offline Marketing

This simple involves you printing out fliers and then distributing them in a high traffic location. This gig works really well if you live in or near a big city and doesn’t really require a lot of work, it’s just that you need to get out there and distribute those fliers.
