Creating Passive Income

One term that is often mentioned when it comes to online business is “passive income”. However, many newcomers to the industry do not really understand what it means or why you should work to create such a source of income for you. While the definitions will vary somewhat, passive income for me would mean income that will come to you without you having to make ongoing efforts to get it. Too many people get discouraged when it comes to operating their own online business for one main reason : it takes too much work. After all, who wants to trade a $15 an hour job to make $15 an hour online, even if you are working for yourself. Furthermore, nobody wants to spend their entire day in front of the computer to run their business.

There are many ways to make money online, some of which require more interaction from you on a regular basis, some less. Let’s explore some of the ways that you can create an online business that will not require you to spend 10 hours a day in front of your computer.

  • Creating your own product

Of course, creating an information product and selling it will require a lot of time and effort in the beginning. However, once the product is created and you have sent some traffic to it, the amount of work that you need to devote to it will diminish as well. This is even more so when you have affiliates that are promoting your product. They will be the ones who will work to create advertising campaigns and get some sales for you, while you can simply sit back and spend an hour or so every day checking your stats and making sure that everything is going ok.

  • Selling on eBay

While many would say that selling on eBay is not a “passive income” activity, it all comes down to what you sell and how you do things. Let’s say that you have found a product that is very popular and that you can sell for a $50 profit on eBay. If you get just 2 sales a day, that will mean $100 a day of profit. To allow this to happen, all that you need to do is to work with a drop shipper. The buyer pays for the item. You then place an order with the drop shipper and tell them to ship the item to the client. The deal is done. All you would need to do is to place the orders as necessary and also place new listings. All of this would take you less than an hour a day on average and can bring you very nice profits with little effort. For you to make this work, you would just need to spend some time at the beginning finding a product that is in demand and that can be shipped to your buyers by a supplier which does drop shipping.

Full Time Online Business: Part 4 – Your Own Product

Full Time Online Business: Part 4 – Your Own Product

Selling your own information product is something that is mentioned in many internet marketing courses. There are plenty of guides, some free, some others costing several thousands of dollars, which say that it is truly a way to succeed on the internet. Many marketers will ask themselves this important question: is all of this actually true, or is is actually just hype to get these guides to sell.

Well, the short answer is yes, you can make quite a lot of money by creating an info product and selling it on the internet. However, this is not the way to go when you are just starting your online business. The main reason behind this is that it will take a lot of time for you to create a successful product that sells well. In fact, this can take several months. You are thus much better off focusing on some other ways to make money online in the beginning and then moving on to product creation later on. So what do you need to succeed by creating an informational product and selling it online?

  • A good product

This should be something that fills a need and that answers a question that people have. While the “make money online” niche is extremely popular, it is quite saturated at this point. Look at some other successful products outside of this niche. There are plenty of guides that talk about converting your car to run on water, getting rid of acne, whitening your teeth, building a wind turbine or solar panel to power your home, etc.

  • A good sales page

The sales copy that you use must include all the necessary elements that will make the reader want to buy your product. As such, you will either need to study some copywriting techniques to create your own sales copy or hire the services of a professional copywriter. The latter option will not be cheap, however. It can cost you several thousands of dollars to have a sales copy professionally written. However it can make quite a difference in the amount of sales that your product will make.

  • Getting others to promote your product

Of course, it is possible to use various internet marketing strategies to get sales for your product. But wouldn’t it be better to have others do the work for you? In that case you would need to recruit some affiliates. However, this does not mean that you can simply put your product up on ClickBank and expect dozens of affiliates flocking to promote something they never even heard about. You will need to go around internet marketing forums, talking about your product and promoting it to affiliates who will be interested in bringing sales to it. While this is certainly quite possible to do, it will still demand a lot of effort on your part to get affiliates to become interested in it.

Full Time Online Business: Part 1

When you are building an online business that will generate a full time income, there are various things that you can do to earn some money. These things are not necessarily complicated to execute, but they will nonetheless require some more patience on your part to do properly and to yield the results that you wanted them to have.

So, what are some good ideas to earn full time cash on the internet? We will present them to you, but let’s start with the most simple ones.

Actually, what you can very well do is to take the things that you can do as part of a micro or mini online business and simply scale them up so that they can produce more revenue for you. Let’s take providing services for example:

There are plenty of people who do things such as writing articles and designing graphics to earn a bit of extra cash online. But it is possible to turn these activities to a full time business as well. There are two things that you will need to make this work:

  • Skill

The amount of money that clients will be willing to pay you will largely depend on how good you are at doing your job. For example, if you are an average article writer, you could find people willing to pay you $5 for a 500 word web article. But if you can truly write professional quality articles that are very informative to the users, you could find that some people are willing to pay anywhere from $20 to $50 for a simple 500 word piece to be posted on the web. Obviously you will need to work very hard to build up your skills to that level, but many have done it.

  • Time

Another thing that you would need to do would be to devote sufficient time to your online activities if you want them to make enough money for you. Consider this, if you write articles at $15 per article and you write 2 in one hour, this gives you a very respectable $30 per hour. Now if you work full time 5 days a week, you can make almost $40 000 a year by doing this.

If you go with the services route, then you should know that finding high paying clients will be much harder than finding some that would pay you a fraction of what you want to earn. Therefore, you will need to spend more time networking and looking for work to do than if you simply wanted to make a bit of extra cash at the end of the month.

But what if you do not want to do all the work yourself? There are a few things that you can do and tomorrow, we will take a look at some simple business models that you can take advantage of and get off the ground rather quickly.

Full Time Online Business: Getting Ready

Full Time Online Business: Getting Ready

Previously, we have seen some of the things that you can do to earn money online if you wanted a micro or mini online business. This would allow you to earn a part time income or some extra cash from your online marketing activities. While this might be satisfactory for some of you, what about those who would like to make more money, like a full time online business.

Of course, this is possible and has been done by many other people. Some regularly make six figures a year online. Some have even made millions. While doing this kind of money is definitely possible, it is not something that is easy to accomplish, no matter what you have heard. Sure, some of the tasks to do this may be “simple” from the technical point of view, but doing them correctly will still require some time, effort and commitment from you.

We will get into various methods to make money as part of a full time online business, but first let’s discuss some of the things that you will need in order to get started:

  • Time

Running a full time online business will mean that you will need to spend at a minimum 30 hours per week on it. This is the bare minimum and depending on what you do, you may need to work more than that.

  • Money

While there are certain types of business that can be started with little or even no money, this is the exception, rather than the rule in terms of full time online business. But it doesn’t mean that you will need hundreds of thousands to get started, either. You can start up slowly, and then use the money that you have made to grow your business. Basically, if you don’t have too much start up funding, you will need to be able to reinvest the profits that you have made at the beginning right away.

  • The understanding that you will start out slowly

Many people would like to make $1000 a day from the very first day they have started their business. Of course, this is possible. Pretty much everything is in the online world. But this is an exception again. You need to accept the fact that it will take at least a few weeks, sometimes a few months, for your business to grow to the point where you will be truly making the amount of money that you had hoped for. Online business, while often very profitable, is not a get rich quick scheme. Those who think of it in this way are the first ones to get discouraged after they realize that becoming an instant millionaire is nothing more than a fantasy.

  • Willingness to learn, take risks and experiment

You must be capable of learning on your own and be willing to try new methods and techniques to make money. You need to put the fear of failure behind you, otherwise you will never succeed.

Part Time Online Business: Some Ideas

Part Time Online Business: Some Ideas

If you want to start an online business and make a relatively decent amount of cash, without spending thousands of dollars or working full time on it, there are some ways to accomplish that. While there are many ways of earning money online, here are some examples of methods that have been shown to be profitable for many online entrepreneurs. These can be used to build a part time online business, however there is nothing that is really stopping you from turning these ideas into a full time online business if this is what you wish to do.

  • Providing services

We have seen this in the micro online business article, and it really is the same concept. You provide services that are useful for business owners and online marketers and you get paid for it. Popular examples include: article writing, backlink creation, web design, ebook writing, etc.

The main difference is that you will be spending more time doing the work, around 20 to 30 hours per week should give you a very good part time income.

  • Outsourced service creation

Same thing, but with a bit of a change. While you can do some of the work, you will be outsourcing most of it to other people for less than what the client is paying you and you will pocket the difference. So let’s say that someone pays you $12 to create a 1000 word article for them. You find a worker that can create quality articles on a forum or freelancing site and pay them let’s say $8 for it. You will then keep the $4 difference as profit. While this seems insignificant, if you get orders for 10 articles a day at $4 of profit, that’s $40 per day, and you didn’t do much work besides co-ordinating the work between what the client orders and what the outsourcer produces.

  • Light Ebay selling

Ebay is the most popular online marketplace in the world, where some sellers have made millions by selling various kinds of merchandise to consumers. Of course, it’s not easy to earn 7 figures from the site, but it is well possible to make a few dozen dollars per day from it with a bit of effort and investment.

Selling on Ebay is the electronic equivalent of you having a stand at a flea market. You buy goods from a distributor at a low price and then re-sell them at a profit to the end consumer. All you are doing is applying the concept of buy low/sell high, which has existed for thousands of years.

So, for example, you would buy 10 cell phones at $300 each from a distributor that sells wholesale goods. You then resell them on Ebay for $400 and you keep the difference minus Ebay and PayPal fees. Basically, to be successful, all you would need to do is to find goods that are easy to acquire, in demand and easy to sell at a profit.

Micro Online Business: Being More Efficient

Micro Online Business: Being More Efficient

We’ve seen some ways that you can make money by providing services and only spend 1 to 3 hours a day doing it. This is a good method for those who want to earn some money in the online world but do not have much time to invest in their online business activities.

But how do you maximize your earning potential? Here are some excellent tips on doing so. This will basically allow you to earn more money in less time.

  • Eliminate all distractions

You’re supposed to be working. Therefore, sign out of Facebook, Myspace or Twitter. Sign out of MSN, AIM, Yahoo Messenger or Skype, unless you actually need these to communicate with your clients. Close all other tabs and browser windows that you don’t need. This will help you concentrate on the task at hand. Sure, some people are able to work and talk to a friend on Skype at the same time. But it is not recommended, as it will simply take away from the time you have to make some money online.

  • Build a good reputation

As you will be getting projects mainly from forums and freelancing sites, building a good reputation is important. Depending on the site, clients will be able to leave you feedback every time you complete work for them. The more positive feedback you get, the more of a good reputation you will get and this will increase your chances of getting more work.

  • Pick longer and more profitable tasks

Let’s say you are writing articles. Which do you think is better: writing 3 1000 word articles or writing 10 300 word articles? Even if the pay would be the same, choosing one or two bigger tasks rather than a few different small ones allows for better use of your time. This is because you will not have to stop as often and do some research on what to write about or check the clients requirements.

  • Strive to get regular work from the same clients

Getting regular work from the same people is much better in terms of making more efficient use of your time than getting work from different people all the time. The reasons for this are pretty common sense. You will be spending much less time making posts offering your services, accepting projects and answering questions from clients and a lot more time actually doing the work. Your clients will already know you and what you are capable of doing and will therefore be more likely to assign work they need done to you rather than picking out a completely new person from the forum or freelancing site.

Getting regular work is not that hard. You first need to start by doing a couple of projects for various clients and build up your reputation. Eventually, someone will assign some more work to you and it could turn into a regular project.

Is Internet Marketing a Good Career Choice?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Is Internet Marketing a Good Career Choice?

Some people may be asking themselves if internet marketing is a good choice of career. Sure, the money that can be made online may seem attractive to many, but earning cash on the internet by promoting affiliate products or having your own products is not for everyone. Here are some thing to consider if you want to go into online marketing as a full time activity:

Being an internet marketer is not a job. You will actually be working for yourself and thus have all the responsibilities that come with that. So you need to be a person that will always be motivated to do work without having someone giving them orders and telling them what to do or what not to do. The success of your business will depend on your ability to make the right decisions and you cannot blame someone else if things go wrong.

  • You will need to learn things by yourself

When you decide to build an online business, there is a lot of information that you would need to look up, read and understand. There are very few actual college courses that deal with online business, and those that do typically just explain you what internet marketing is, but do not go into any real amount of detail on how you can build a successful business on the internet. So, if your idea of learning is sitting in a classroom and hearing some guy in a suit rephrase what is already in a textbook, then the online world is not for you. You must have the ability to learn everything you need by yourself, either by looking up information, or through experience.

  • There is no fixed salary

Remember again, you are working for yourself and not for someone else. Therefore, you are the one that will determine how much or who little you get paid. In certain jobs, you might be able to get paid just for showing up and loafing around for a few hours. This is not the case here. How hard you work and how creative you are will have a definite impact on how much you get paid.

  • You need to be able to embrace change

The online world is constantly changing, with new earning opportunities always emerging. In order to maximize your profits, you will need to take advantage of these opportunities as soon as they appear. Just remember, about 6 years ago, social media marketing was a relatively new concept that barely anyone took seriously. Now, many businesses use social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to stay in touch with clients and to acquire new ones.

What will be the next wave of change in online marketing? Some say it could be sites geared towards mobile devices, others think that the integration of various devices, such as internet enabled televisions could change the landscape significantly. No matter what happens, you need to be on top of your game and be among the first to spot golden opportunities.

Marketing For Local Businesses: Your Options – Media Buying – Part 1

Marketing For Local Businesses: Your Options – Media Buying – Part 1

When it comes to online advertising options for a local business, there are plenty of choices that are open to you. Some of these options are completely free, while others will require you to spend some money and thus create an advertising budget. But one of the advantages of online advertising is that it is not as expensive as other methods, such as television or radio ads. It is also possible to very specifically target the audience that you want to reach, so that only people who have a high chance of being interested in your products end up seeing your ads.

One of these options is media buying. Now, many of you who are not familiar with online marketing terms may wonder what media buying consists of. Basically, it means that you will be buying advertising space on another website and paying for these ads according to different business models. Here are the ones that are the most commonly used in the media buying industry:

Fixed fee – You pay a certain fee to have your ad displayed in a permanent position on a certain website. This fee could be for a day, a week, two weeks, a month or even longer. Usually with this option, your ad is not rotated, meaning that it stays in one spot on the website for the entire time that you have paid for it. The costs will vary depending on the ad location as well as the traffic that the site receives. As such, the price for a daily ad on a site with a moderate amount of traffic could be as little as $4, while one on a site receiving tens of thousands of daily visitors (such as a popular news site in your city), a daily ad could cost you $1000 or even more.

CPM (or cost per views) – Here, you will pay a certain amount for every thousand visitors that view your ad. Every view is counted, so you will pay the same amount whether a visitor clicks your ad to go to your site or not. Once again, the amount you pay will vary on the popularity of your site, as well as the location of the site where your ad is put in. Ads which are displayed in prominent parts of the site tend to cost more.

CPC (or Cost Per Click) – This is similar to pay per click (or PPC) ads that you see on Google sponsored results. You will pay an amount for each person that clicks on your ad and is thus redirected to your site. Costs will vary depending on the site where you are advertising. They can be as low as $0.01/click up to $1.00 or more for each click you receive.

Tomorrow, we will explore more details about online media buying, such as which websites you can advertise on and the types of ads that you can create for your business.

WHY Do People Fail In Online Business?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

WHY Do People Fail In Online Business?

They say most people who decide to build an online business end up failing. While there is no way to get the exact numbers, some estimate that over 75% of people who start an online business end up failing. Others put the numbers as high as 90%. If you are thinking of starting or expanding an online business, these numbers are not quite encouraging. They just might push you to think that there is no way to have success in the online world. Obviously, this is not true. Just like in any other business, there are some people who will do better than others.

Now the main question remains, WHY did these people actually fail. And did they really “fail” or simply gave up? Don’t believe for a second the “gurus” out there who tell you that people fail in IM because they didn’t know the “top secret success formula” that they are selling. This is simply a marketing tactic and nothing more. In the online world, there is no such thing as “lack of information”. In fact, there is plenty of information available out there, for free, to anyone that wants it. People can find free ebooks, guides, blog posts, videos, discussion forums, etc. where they can find all about online business methods, techniques and strategies. You just have to find the information and apply it.

But you have to ask yourself a question: are you an entrepreneur, or just someone looking for a quick buck. There are some differences between the two. The true entrepreneur will always look for ways to make their business achieve its goals and grow. He is willing to adapt to change and learn new ideas to make money. Someone thinking that internet marketing is about “making money fast from home” simply wants that: to make some money easily. The problem is, once they have made the money they needed this month to pay their bills or go shopping, they are happy. They stop. They don’t think of ways they can reinvest their profits to make even more money. What’s more, they don’t structure their business properly.

In the online world, diversifying your activities and having multiple backup plans available will make or break you. Bad things happen. Affiliate programs fold without paying members. Servers can crash. Products could lose their popularity, etc, etc. Someone who is actually building their online business understands that and will have multiple tools, strategies and income streams at their disposal so that they can continue operating no matter what happens. And if a project they are working on doesn’t give them the results they want, they ask themselves why. Then they apply the necessary corrections and try again, until they found something that actually works and let them achieve their goals with regards to the income they want to generate.

Want To Become An Internet Marketer? Do You Have What It Takes?

Want To Become An Internet Marketer? Do You Have What It Takes?

A great number of people are seeking to become internet marketers these days. This is no surprise in itself, given that the internet offers a lot of opportunities for anyone wishing to make money. Furthermore, many are attracted to the world of online business due to the income opportunities that it presents as well as the potential of being your own boss. But do YOU have what it takes to be an internet marketer? There are some qualities and skills that an internet marketer needs to possess in order to succeed. Here are a few of them:

The ability to work independently.

When you run an online business, no one is constantly breathing down your neck to make sure that you are actually working instead of just goofing off and wasting time. For many, this is a good thing. But for some, it can present a challenge in itself. You will need to be motivated to do the work that needs to get done in order to get your business operating even if no one is “forcing” you to do anything.

The willingness to learn… on your own.

To my knowledge, there are only a few internet marketing courses taught in universities. And based on what I have seen, they are usually not worth the money, as all the information given in them can be found online either for free or for far less money.

It comes down to the fact that you need to be able to not only work, but also learn independently. You will have to locate the information you want online, analyze it and take action on it. As the world of internet marketing is constantly evolving, you will always need to be ahead on new developments and do research on new ways to make money. This means devoting some time to continued learning.

The ability to plan and organize things efficiently.

Any successful internet marketer will tell you that the key to earning a lot of money online is having multiple sources of income. The advantages of this are quite obvious, even to someone with no experience in online business: if one of your sources of income dries up for whatever reason, you always have other ones that you can fall back on and scale up. This means that you would probably be operating several websites, dealing with various vendors and service providers, have accounts at multiple affiliate networks, etc.

If you want your business to work well, all of this will have to be neatly organized. You will have to make decisions as to which projects you want to work on, which affiliate offers you will promote this week, which tools and services you will need to accomplish your goals, etc. Needless to say, if you don’t even remember which sites you own or where you are running your ad campaigns, things won’t work out too well for you.

An Overview Of Some “Make Money Online” Ads You Will Come Across – Part 1

An Overview Of Some “Make Money Online” Ads You Will Come Across – Part 1

When you are seeking for ways to make money online, chances are you will be bombarded with advertising for many different earning methods. And of course, the majority of these will require you to spend some money in order to join the program or “unlock the top secret power to become rich”, etc. Here is an overview of some of the most common ads related to money making found online and the truth behind them.

“Single mom makes $600 a day with Google!/Earn $500 an hour online!/Join my top secret money making club, etc”

These are advertisements for either electronic guides (also called ebooks) or membership sites which show you information on how you can earn online. Due to the fact that the offers are varied (there’s thousands of them out there), it is not possible to make a judgment as to whether the information found in each one of them is valid or useful. In general, they will show you some ways that are used to generate some income on the internet. Here are some things that they conveniently fail to mention or hide deep in the fine print of their site:

  • It’s not easy. People who earn impressive figures online have spent countless hours building up their business ad still need to work several hours a day to run their online business.
  • You will probably need to invest money (and may lose it). While it IS possible to start a online business with little or no money, if you hope to earn any significant amount you will need to put up your own funds.
  • The earning figures are exaggerated. The chances that you will be earning anything remotely close to what was advertised during your first attempts are quite remote themselves.

Furthermore, many of these are “trial” offers. You are told that you can access the site right away for just $1.97 or some other small amount. What is buried in the fine print is the fact that if you fail to cancel your subscription to the site within a certain period (varies between 3 days and 2 weeks), you will be charged the full amount which ranges anywhere from $30 to $100 a month. Sure, you can call to cancel, but be prepared to wait on hold, then sometimes have a rep try to “retain” you as a member of the site by trying to talk you out of canceling, offering you a discount or a “super exclusive bonus just for you because you are such a great person”.

Once again, not all money making guides or membership sites are inherently bad. Just make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. If you pay for something, make sure that there is a money back guarantee that you can use if you are not satisfied with the product. If you sign up for a trial offer, find the number to call if you want to cancel and make sure that this number actually works.

Some Ideas On What to Do Online – CPA Networks

Some Ideas On What to Do Online – CPA Networks

If you have just started out and decided to build an online business, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the opportunities out there. Indeed there are many opportunities to earn online, so choosing the right one is important to your success. Here is an overview of some of the most common ways to make money on the internet and get your new business going.

CPA Networks

CPA – or Cost Per Action networks are a form of affiliate program that are very popular with a lot of internet marketers. There are various reasons for their popularity and we will explore them as we take a look at how exactly a CPA network operates.

CPA networks basically regroup various merchants which are seeking individual affiliates to promote their products or services online. This is due to the fact that managing hundreds of affiliates “in house” can be quite demanding on a business and require the creation of specific departments to do just that. For this reason, many companies both big and small, opt to outsource all of that work to CPA networks. The network will be responsible for recruiting and verifying affiliates, tracking results (such as number of clicks, conversion rates, transactions, etc), and issuing payments to affiliates after the merchant has sent them payment.

What differentiates a CPA network from any other type of affiliate network is the type of offers they have for you to promote. Most affiliate networks require you to actually sell something to the visitors that you refer. However, CPA networks have many different types of offers, most of which do not require the visitor to buy anything in order for you to get credit for the action. Here are some examples of things that could earn you a commission, depending on the offer being promoted:

*Submitting their email address

*Submitting their cell phone number

*Registering for free on a membership site

*Filling out a survey

*Filling out a quote form

*Etc.

The amount that you will get paid for the action will vary according to what is required from the customer and on the offer that you are running. On the lower end, an offer which only requires the visitor to enter their email address will pay you anywhere from $0.75 to $2. But an offer that requires them to complete a four page questionnaire with their personal info, like an insurance quote request, could pay you anywhere from $10 to $50.

The reasons merchants can afford to pay for actions which are not immediate sales is because they know a certain percentage of these actions will result in the customer actually signing up for a paying service, or making a purchase at their site. There are also a few offers which pay you a fixed amount or a percentage of a sale if the visitor needs to buy something. However, they are the exception, rather than the norm, when it comes to CPA campaigns.

If you have just started out and decided to build an online business, you may feel a bit overwhelmed by all of the opportunities out there. Indeed there are many opportunities to earn online, so choosing the right one is important to your success. Here is an overview of some of the most common ways to make money on the internet and get your new business going.

Affiliate programs

In essence, an affiliate program pays you to promote a certain product or service and you get a commission in return. This commission amount will vary depending on a few factors, such as the type of product/service you are promoting, the merchant, as well as your past experience with that particular affiliate program. It is not uncommon for many programs to have tiered structures where you get to earn a higher commission amount if you drive a certain number of sales to them.

There are also various ways that the merchant will pay you per sale:

Fixed amount. Just like the name implies, you will get paid a specific dollar amount for each sale that you refer. This amount may vary depending on different products or services that are purchased by the referred customer.

Percentage of sale. This is most commonly used by merchants which sell dozens of different items which have different prices. The percentage that you get will once again vary greatly depending on what you are promoting. In the case of high priced physical goods, the commission percentages are usually quite low and range from 2 to 5%. But this is made up by the fact that the percentage will be based on an overall higher sale amount. For digital goods, such as ebooks and membership site subscriptions, it is not uncommon to be offered commissions ranging from 50% to 75%. However, it is worth noting that the sale price is much lower and normally ranges between $25 to $50.

Recurring commissions (also called revenue sharing or rev-share). This type of payment plan is sometimes offered by merchants who have a subscription based service, such as informational membership sites, dating sites, etc. You would get a percentage of the amount that a customer that you have referred to the site was billed. Once again, the exact percentage will vary, but is usually in the range of 25% to 75%.

Finding affiliate programs

As you have probably noticed, there is no shortage of affiliate programs that you can sign up to participate in. However, due to the complexity involved in running an affiliate program, many online merchants have chosen to join a bigger affiliate network. This network will take care of tracking the commissions owed and issuing payments to you after they have been paid by the merchant at the end of the month.

Some popular affiliate networks are: ClickBank (www.clickbank.com) for e-books, membership sites and digital products; Commission Junction (www.cj.com) and Linkshare (www.linkshare.com) regroup hundreds of different merchants, such as clothing retailers, online phone services, etc.

Are You Ready For Your Own Home Based Business?

Many would like to believe that setting up a home based business is easy and requires little preparation on your part. In reality, this is not entirely true. There are a few things that you first need to get in order before you start any type of online or home based business, and also some facts about the industry that you need to be aware of.

Set up your work space the right way.

First, you need to prepare the space where you would be working. If you live alone in a 1 bedroom apartment, this wont take much from you. But if you have kids, a dog and a host of other distractions, you need set up a dedicated workspace where you can work without being distracted. Remember that distractions while working will cause lost productivity.

Plan your schedule accordingly.

While ads for online business products will often tell you things like “work anytime you want, anywhere you want”, you still need to be well organized. Plan ahead and determine during which hours of the day you will be working, and what you will be working on during that time. Not having a schedule will often result in running out of time to do the work that you have to do during the day, and then having to play catch-up tomorrow.

Know that you will be responsible for all of your decisions.

If you own a home based business an work for yourself, you have the advantage of making your own decisions at all times and not having a boss breathe down your neck. While, of course, this is a positive thing, it also means that you have a lot more responsibility. You can’t blame coworkers, team members or superiors in case something goes wrong, because you don’t have any. This is why you always need to be aware of the consequences that your decisions will have on your business, both immediately and further down the road.

Make sure that you are financially prepared.

While certain types of online businesses can be started with little or no money, in most cases you would need to invest a bit in things such as web hosting, domain names, advertisements, etc. Furthermore, the amount of money that you make could vary from month to month depending on how well you are doing. Unlike a “regular” job, there is no guarantee that you would make a specific amount of income every month. You could also end up making no money whatsoever during certain periods. You should prepare yourself for these circumstances and always have a backup plan should something go wrong with your current business model. For example, if you are reselling goods on eBay, your main supplier could go out of business and leave you nothing to sell. If you had maintained adequate inventory in stock at all times, or several backup suppliers for your merchandise, this wouldn’t affect you as much.
