Attracting Quality Traffic To Your Blog: Part 2

As far as getting traffic to a blog is concerned, there are numerous ways to achieve this. Here are some additional methods that you can use to get more traffic coming in to a blog:

  • Participate in Other Blog Comments

Blog comments are very diverse. Some are blatant spam, usually advertising some online casino or pharmacy site (the good thing is that most of these are picked up by spam filters automatically now anyways), many others add little or no value to the discussion (Yeah, I agree!/Good Post!/Thanks, etc). But some are truly insightful and genuinely add to the discussion on the topic of the blog post. By participating in other blog comments, you can get a link to your blog, which can be visited by other visitors and also the blog owner. If the owner of the blog finds that your comments are truly beneficial they may even add a link to your blog on their main page and share some of your posts on social media. This can bring you a lot of traffic, especially if you get linked to from a blog that is already popular.

  • Interact With Your Users

Allow your readers to leave comments on your blog. Read and respond to them. Allow your readers to subscribe to the comment thread through email or social media. By openly interacting with your readers, you will increase the amount of attention that they give to your blog and this will make them a lot more likely to come back or to share your content with others.

  • Establish a Strong Social Media Presence

Use social media such as Facebook, Google +, Twitter and maybe even video sharing sites such as YouTube or Daily Motion to complement your blog and bring more attention to it from users of these services. However, to get more success, remember that your social media pages should be more than simply links to your blog posts. You can post on social media sites whenever you update your blog and share that post, but be sure to include other, original content as well. The goal is to get a following on social media as well as on your blog. The more visitors and followers you’re going to have on your social media page the better the chances that some of these people will also become followers and readers of your blog.

  • Establish Yourself as An Authority in Your Niche

This is one of the hardest ways but also the most profitable in the long term. You will want your blog to be known and respected in your niche. This will give you access to many visitors, perhaps even thousands a day if your blog is very successful. How is this done? There are various methods that you can employ to increase the authority of your blog. Apply them, be patient and they will work. We will explore some of these methods tomorrow.

Tips for a Successful Blog: Having Good Content

We’ve seen all the good design elements which make a blog useful and likely to be profitable for you. But now there’s one important thing that you need to figure out: the content of your new blog. Your visitors will come to your blog to read something that is interesting and informative in their eyes. Therefore, you will need to ensure that what you have on your blog will keep your readers happy and make them want to come back to it for more. Here is some good advice on how you can accomplish this:

Make Regular Posts

If you want your readers to stay interested in your blog, then you would need to make new posts on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean you have to post every day if you’re just going to end up repeating what you’ve said in the past few days. But you shouldn’t leave your blog without any new updates for several weeks, as people may think that the blog is “dead” and that you’re no longer actively maintaining it. By making regular posts, readers will be more eager to know when you’ve added something to your blog.

Keep Your Posts Brief and to the Point

If you have a lot to say about a certain topic, then it would be better for you to break it up into several different posts that discuss the main points you would like to make. You could have a “series” of posts that focus on a certain aspect of your niche.

Format Your Posts Well

One good example of this would be just reading this post. As you can see, it is formatted in paragraphs with sub headers. Nobody wants to read a wall of text, as it’s simply hard to follow. If you’re going to make a post that is say 500 words long, then you will need to divide it into paragraphs that are structured according to the points that you’re making in your post. So if you’re reviewing a new digital camera, one paragraph could deal with the performance and the other one about the price and availability.

Include Multimedia Content

While it’s true that blogs are mainly used for sharing text, it doesn’t mean you can’t include anything else. Adding a thumbnail image that is relevant to the topic at hand will make the blog post more attractive to readers. If you need to include a photo, graphic or diagram that will provide explanation or reinforce the point that you’re trying to make, then you can do so as well. Of course, it is possible to add video content to a blog post quite easily too. Some topics, especially if you’re showing the reader how to do something, such as installing a graphics card in a computer or navigating their way around a certain piece of software, could be much easier to understand for your blog visitors if you included a video in addition to text instructions. To save bandwidth, you can host the videos on an external video sharing service like YouTube.

User Interaction and Why It Is Important

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

User Interaction and Why It Is Important

If you have a website of any kind, then you probably use it to either sell or promote some of your products. One of your main concerns as a webmaster would be how to make the user experience more enjoyable for your website visitors. Also, you are probably looking for ways that you can use to improve your overall search engine ranking for the keywords that your website is targeting. Both of these things can be achieved by allowing user interaction with your website. This is not something unique or radical, in fact many of the world’s biggest websites such as Amazon and eBay follow these tips, so learn from the successful guys and implement them.

  • Allow User Ratings on Your Items

If you sell merchandise, allowing your users to give a rating, usually in terms of stars, can be a very good way to have them interact with your website and give feedback on products and services that you have and that they have used. Unless you deliberately sell junk and don’t really want your customers to come back to your site (well… they might kind of complain and this annoys scammers, you know), then there should be no problem with letting your site visitors rate your products.

  • Allow Comments, Reviews and Testimonials From Users and Encourage them to Participate

This is good for SEO, as it creates unique content which is user generated, so you didn’t really need to take any action in order to put it there anyways. So it saves a lot of effort for you. Are you selling some products? Let buyers post some reviews of them. Many big name shopping sites do that, such as Amazon. Did you post a news article, blog post or made a YouTube video for your website visitors? Let them comment about it and encourage them to leave feedback, by using a call to action such as “What Do You Think of This New Service? Let Us Know Below!”. Monitor your comments to delete spam and obvious trolling or stupidity, but also keep an eye out for visitors that have a question or concern. You can then either respond to them in the comments, or ask them to communicate with you in a private way such as by email or by sending a message through your website.

  • Include Social Media Buttons

This really isn’t complicated at all. All you need to do is include buttons for social media, such as your Twitter and Facebook profiles, or your YouTube channel. You can incorporate these to your website very easily and many large companies and even government agencies now have them on their sites due to the prevalent use of social networking sites. You also don’t have to use the icons provided by the social networking sites, instead you can use custom ones that would better match the layout of your website. Of course, you could always download the trial edition of Photoshop and design the logos yourself too. Social media buttons will allow your visitors to get social with you on various networks that your business participates in.

However, with the right ideas, business plan and execution, you will definitely be able to make some money with an e-commerce site. With the growth in online shopping, there are a lot of opportunities out there for you to make money. Here are the basic elements that you would need to think of when you start an online business of this sort:

  • Products to sell. Obviously this is the most important thing to consider when you are starting an online business. You will need to think about what you will be selling to make money from your site. This is the part of building an e-commerce site that you will want to give the most thought to.
  • A website. Since you will be selling products online, you obviously need to have a website to sell them. You can build a website from an “off the shelf” e-commerce platform, many of which are available for free. This will give you a “standard” or basic e-commerce site. But if you want to customize it more, you will need to either learn about things such as coding and graphic design, or hire someone else to do it for you. Your website will be the first thing that your customers see, so you obviously need to make it look good in order to make your online business appear trustworthy in your site visitors eyes.
  • Site visitors. Also know as traffic. Obviously, this is an important part of running an online business and it is also the most important one. Without any visitors to your website, there are no potential customers and therefore you will be making no money. There are various strategies that you can employ to bring some visitors to your new e-commerce website. But one thing that you need to realize is that at the beginning, growth may be quite slow. You will need to patiently build up some traffic by using various means of online promotion. There are some ways that you can use which will bring you free website visitors. However, this will require some work on your part. Also, you will need to study some of the online advertising and marketing methods if you would like to know all about the latest methods that you can use to bring some people as visitors to your site.

Efficient Article Writing

Efficient Article Writing

If you need to write several articles, then chances are you may sometimes find this online marketing task to be long, tedious and perhaps boring. However, it doesn’t have to be this way. There are certain things that you can do to make your article writing more efficient and less time consuming. Here are some tips for article writing:

Plan your writing first

If you are going to write several articles, then it is better for you to plan the entire task ahead of time. So, for example if you need to create 5 articles, then think of the titles and topics of these 5 articles before you start writing them. You don’t have to figure out everything that you are going to say in the article at this point, however it does help for you to get a general idea of the topic and main points.

Set aside some time for research

Some times, you can write an article, or several articles, solely off the top of your head without needing to do any research at all. This is usually the case if you are writing about a topic that you are already very familiar with. However, in some other cases you will need to do some research first.

Start doing that research before you begin writing the articles. After you have the main topic of the article, it will then be time for you to begin gathering all the information that you need to write it. Look for other articles and websites on the topic. Gather the facts, figures etc. that you need. If you are reviewing a product that you have used than take a look at the product and see what you would want to mention about it. By doing your research in advance, you will be able to make your article writing a lot more efficient and less time consuming.

Write without stopping

I find that writing an article usually goes a lot better if you simply write whatever comes to mind first and then make adjustments or corrections later on if they become necessary to do. Think of it: if you stop for 5 minutes after writing each sentence to ask yourself whether what you have written is good and to think of what you will say next, you will end up spending hours on an article that could have been finished in less than 20 minutes.

The great thing about writing on a computer as opposed to a typewriter or with pen and paper is that you can make as many corrections to your text as you want. You can add things, delete things and move entire paragraphs of text around as necessary. Therefore, save the corrections for the end, where you will proof read your article and think about whether there is something that you could have done better.

Using Fiverr To Make Money: Part 3

Using Fiverr To Make Money: Part 3

Previously, we have seen how it is possible to make money from Fiverr by selling your services. But there are other ways that you can profit from this unique freelancing site and this is by being a buyer. While making a profit buying things may not seem very obvious at first, there are actually some ways that you can make this happen. Let’s take a look at some of these ways:

  • Buying Traffic and Social Media Promotion

Let’s say you have a product or service that you are selling online and could use some traffic to get some exposure for it. There are many sellers who offer social media promotion on Fiverr, such as sending out Tweets or putting a link to your website on their Facebook fan page. Many of these people have tens of thousands of Twitter followers or Facebook fans, meaning that your message will be seen by a lot of people. However, it is still important that you check the reputation of the seller, just to make sure that their fans or followers are actually real people rather than bots. You can do this by checking their feedback and seeing what others have left as comments about the service that they offered. Still, for just $5, you are getting a lot of potential exposure and are not risking a lot of money if you don’t get the results that you were hoping for.

  • Outsourcing Services

While I have mentioned it in another post some time ago, I will say it once again: there is a lot of profit to be made from what is referred to as “services arbitrage”. What does it consist of? Quite simply, you would sell your services at another place, such as an internet marketing forum and then outsource it to people on Fiverr for a lower price. So let’s say that you get paid $7 to write a 600 word article based on an offer that you’ve made on an IM forum. You would then outsource that article creation to someone on Fiverr and have them write it for $5. You keep the $2 difference as a profit. Sure, the $2 doesn’t sound like much, however this can quickly add up. So if you are outsourcing 10 articles a day, this can generate a profit of $600 a month. Not bad, considering the fact that you could spend less than an hour a day managing this.

Here again, the trick is to make sure that whoever you are outsourcing the work to will do a quality job so that you can maintain your reputation as being a provider that offers great services to your client. Check the seller’s past feedback to see if it is good and give them a small assignment to begin with. If you notice that they do good work and follow your instructions well, you can then send them more regular work and you will have found a great partner that you can outsource your work to.

Using Fiverr to Make Money: Part 1

Using Fiverr to Make Money: Part 1

A lot of people have heard about Fiverr.com, which is a type of freelancing website that allows you to do two things: both hiring people to do certain tasks and doing the tasks yourself. You can actually profit from the site both as a buyer and as a seller. But first, let’s take a look at what the site is and how it actually works:

All the tasks, called “gigs” cost $5 and you cannot change that amount. So this makes it suitable for relatively short tasks that do not take much time to complete. Now some people wonder how Fiverr makes money from people who use the site. In reality, their business model is very similar to how other freelancing sites function. They take a small commission from the amount that someone gets paid when they do a gig. At Fiverr, that amount is $1. So the buyer pays $5 to have a gig done. The person who provides the service gets $4.

Fiverr uses PayPal as their (only) payment system as of right now. The buyer deposits funds and then can buy some gigs. As a seller, you can withdraw funds to your PayPal account when you have earned some money doing gigs. However there is something very important that you need to consider: as a security measure, the amount can only be withdrawn 14 days after the gig has been completed. So you don’t really get paid “instantly” as you need to wait 2 weeks before you can transfer the funds over to your PayPal account.

Now, as a seller, what kind of gigs can you provide that will allow you to earn some money?

The most popular ones are:

  • Article Writing

Usually involves writing articles or blog posts that will be used as web content. Very easy to do, all that you have to do is to write an article based on the requirements of the buyer.

  • Website Creation

You can create a small website that has a few pages for the buyer. Also, there are many buyers that need a landing or squeeze page done in order to market affiliate offers online.

  • Social Media Marketing

Do you have a Facebook fan page or a Twitter account with thousands of followers? In that case, you can offer to put up a promotional message on your social media page to advertise the website of the buyer.

  • Video Creation

This usually involves you talking about a product or service that somebody else is promoting online. However there are also plenty of other topics that buyers request videos to be made for. If you like making videos, this could be an interesting gig for you.

  • Offline Marketing

This simple involves you printing out fliers and then distributing them in a high traffic location. This gig works really well if you live in or near a big city and doesn’t really require a lot of work, it’s just that you need to get out there and distribute those fliers.

Why Create a Membership Site?

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Why Create a Membership Site?

When it comes to creating their own products, you can see a lot of online entrepreneurs creating an ebook or a more complete course that comes with videos and several bonuses. Of course, these are all good ideas and can be very profitable. The issue, however, is that if you use this business model, you would only make one sale from each customer and will have no residual income from them. Sure, you can get them on your mailing list and try to sell them some of your other products or promote a new product that you have created to them, but this will require additional marketing efforts on your part. Creating a membership site will eliminate these issues. There are several advantages that creating a membership site has:

  • Recurring income

Instead of just making a sale once, you will be able to get a monthly fee from your buyers. As long as you update your site on a regular basis and thus provide them with interesting and new content every month, they will stay. In fact, some of them could stay for many years as long as they find your site to be useful for them. This is much better than simply making a “one off” sale.

  • Better perceived value from your buyers

Many people have seen a lot of ebooks, especially in the internet marketing niche. Plenty of them have bought these ebooks before and have been disappointed with their content. However, there are a lot of buyers out there who see membership sites as more valuable and useful to them than just a course or a guide. This is because the sites often have a collection of tools, several sections of learning material, a discussion forum, etc.

  • Increased marketing and money making opportunities

With a membership site, as opposed to a stand alone product, you have more opportunities to sell to people, especially once they become members. Sure, having a mailing list can be very good and can make you successful. But the issue here is that plenty of ebook buyers are already on the mailing list of every guru (real or wannabe) in town. They get so many of these emails each day that they might read one or two and ignore the rest. But if they become a member, they will pay a lot more attention to what you have to say.

So if you are promoting another product, whether it is an affiliate offer or one that you created, they are a lot more likely to take interest in it. Also, if your methods involve the use of services, like web hosting or online phone services, you can become an affiliate of these and include your affiliate link in the relevant section of your membership site content. This gives you an even greater opportunity to make some money from your buyers.

Of course, setting up and managing a membership site will require a bit more work than just selling an ebook. But it is not impossible to do and remember that in terms of profits, it can be a very beneficial activity for you.

Understanding the Importance Of Long Tail Keywords

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Understanding the Importance Of Long Tail Keywords

If you are doing search engine optimization or search engine marketing, it is possible that you have seen some advice pertaining to long tail keywords. It is quite possible that you may have asked yourself: what exactly is a long tail keyword? And what benefit does it bring to my site exactly?

To give you a quick answer, long tail keywords are those which have more than 2 words in the main keyword phrase. What makes them so powerful is that these keywords are often what people search for when they are ready to purchase a certain product or service online. By making your site rank high for these keywords, you increase the chance that a buyer will see your site and therefore make a purchase from you.

Targeting long tail keywords during your online marketing efforts has a lot of advantages. Here are some of them:

These keywords convert better than general ones

Traffic that comes from long tail keywords is more likely to convert than traffic which comes from general ones. This is a known fact throughout the internet marketing industry. The reason behind this is because these keywords are a lot more targeted and specific than general ones. People who are searching for more detailed keywords such as “buy iphone” or “iphone discount” or “used iphone New York” are more likely to buy a product rather than someone who is just seeking for “iphone”.

You can put in your product name in them

Basically, people who are looking for a specific product online can be in two categories. They either have already made a decision to buy a certain product or they are seriously considering to buy it but they are seeking more information about it. In both cases, what you need to do is to target the necessary keywords and have a landing page that will be able to convince visitors that your product is exactly what they have been looking for.

Don’t require as much efforts to rank higher

In the internet marketing world there is plenty of competition. Unless you have a product or service that is extremely unique with no competition (highly unlikely… chances are somebody will copy you sooner or later) or is in a very obscure and specific niche, you will see others online promoting the same product or service that you are.

If you are in the dog training niche, you will see, for example that keywords such as “dog training” or “dogs” are already dominated by your competitors. The problem is that many of these competitors are large businesses which have a large budget and staff that is making sure that they stay on top of search engine results. Therefore, going against them is not the best idea. However, if you target a more specific, long tail keyword, such as “make your dog stop barking”, you will find that there are far fewer pages with that keyword phrase. This means that you will not have to do as much SEO work if you want to rank high for it.

Getting Started In Online Writing – Part 2

Getting Started In Online Writing – Part 2

Online article writing can be a great way to make some quick money online. If you have what it takes, you can also turn it into a full time freelancing job. But to get started, the first thing that you need to do is to find some clients who will pay you for your writing. Here are a few places where you can do so:

Internet marketing forums:

These are forums such as Digital Point and the Warrior Forum. They are a meeting place for those who want to earn money online to discuss ideas and network with each other. They are also a place for people who offer their services, such as article writing or graphic design to make acquire some customers and make money. Internet marketing forums are a great place to find work due to the fact many people are seeking content for their website in order to advance in search engine rankings or simply to present their products or affiliate offers to prospective clients. A lot of online marketers either aren’t good enough in English to write quality articles, or simply don’t have the time to write the necessary amount of content each day. This is why they seek to outsource this part of the job to others and why these forums are a good place to get clients.

Advantages:

  • You set your own terms and prices. For example, you can offer discounts to repeat customers or those who make larger orders.
  • If your work is of good quality and liked by clients, you can get a lot of repeat business. In this line of work, it is much better to work with a few different clients than to be constantly hunting for more work after writing a few articles.
  • You get paid immediately. There is no waiting period of 2 weeks or 1 month to get your money.

Disadvantages:

  • Some forums require you to pay around $20 to post a thread to offer your services. Some of them also require that your thread be approved by a moderator before it is posted.
  • If you are new to the forum, a lot of the people will be wary of dealing with you and may only give you small orders to begin with.
  • Possibility of getting scammed. While the majority of people on internet marketing forums are there to conduct honest business, there are always a few scammers out there who would simply have you submit the work and then disappear without paying. This can be mitigated by using common sense: if you are dealing with a new member with only a few posts and they are making a large order, arrange to split the work in a few parts. You would then send part of the work, get paid for it, and then go on to complete the remainder. Watch out for excuses such as “I can’t, I’m only getting paid in a few days, I will pay you then, etc.”

A Successful Business Product

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

A Successful Business Product

In order to make money online with a product it has to be successful. To make a successful product you must consider products that will attract the most attention, products you are extremely knowledgeable in, and can enjoy creating.

Attracting Attention
Do some online research and you can easily find products that are sought after in today’s market. If you are looking to create a product for use on a social media site, it would only be fitting that you focus on the more popular sites for social networking, like Facebook and Twitter. If you were to focus on a media site like MySpace, it is a less popular subject today than it once was, therefore it will not make as much profit as possible.

Knowledgeable
Products you market online should be related to a niche that you are familiar and knowledgeable in. Your consumers want to know that you are an expert in the particular topic you speak about. In order to ensure your consumers a product they would want to pay for you need to deliver information that is not easily accessible in other places. If a consumer finds value in your product you are more likely to receive recommendations and repeat business.

Creativity
Use your creativity to market your product and share information in ways that other sources do not. Since you will be dedicating a lot of time and attention to your product you need to make sure it is something you enjoy doing. The more you can enjoy creating one product the more information you deliver to your consumer, who can easily tell if you are passionate about your particular topic of choice.

Consider these three things before you develop any product to market online, especially if you are looking to generate money from your product!

Building a Sale-Securing Landing Page

Landing pages are short one page websites where you do nothing but sell your product, you have probably come across a lot of ugly landing pages with blinking lights and auto playing videos (a couple of tricks to avoid) and while many landing pages look scammy by their very nature it is possible to build a legitimate looking page that will make your product sell.

The Hot Zone
I like to refer to it as the hot zone, there are a lot of other ways of referring to it but they all are referring to the same thing, the part of the screen that is first viewable by a user when they come to your site. One excellent tactic for the hot zone is to stall your visitor, a good way to do this is by asking a compelling question in large font, bolded, something like “Do you want to make $50 every day online?” or “Are you tired of looking in the mirror and feeling depressed?” asking questions of people will either force them to at least answer it in their head (taking up a couple seconds) or spark their interest enough to get them to scroll down the page, once they start scrolling you are very close to making a sale. Other tactics to use in the hot zone are stating compelling facts such as “Doctors make new discover, cigarettes ARE healthy” or something else that will confuse the visitor and make them want to read on to learn more.
Another essential piece of the hot zone is to include a graphic, something related to your topic and also compelling, oftentimes a graphic can draw a visitor in more than text so go for something good like an attractive girl or an adsense screenshot showing hundreds of dollars made.

The Rest of the Page
If a visitor gets to this part of the page you are looking good for making a sale. Here is where you want to do one of two things, either pack in facts about your product or niche, or sell your products benefits like a mad man. Get right in their face about how the product can “CHANGE THEIR LIFE!!!” or whatever else the product can do, do not be shy about this part of the page, what you are banking on is your visitor generating some sort of high, some sort of act-now-or-miss-out-forever feeling deep in their gut where they absolutely cannot reject your offer. Continue including graphics that will draw the eye and lead them to continue reading (many people will exit your page if there are no graphics to draw their eyes). Keep up this sort of text for the length of at least 4 or 5 pages, then drop a sales link in, a common tactic is the “slash price” where you strike out the “old” price and give them a new one, even though this might seem cheesy, it works well, do not be too proud to use tactics that work.

In conclusion, making sales out of your visitors can be done with a landing page but it takes compelling content and pictures that will ruffle your potential clients feathers and get them interested, once you have this covered you are on your way to your own “$50 PER DAY GUARANTEED!!!” method.

A Quick CPA Idea – Survey Offers

A Quick CPA Idea – Survey Offers

We all know that you can make money from survey sites by completing various surveys. But the issue often encountered with this money making method is that it doesn’t generate much revenue. Plus, some of the surveys could be long and on topics that don’t really interest you. This could make it quite tedious.

But there is another way to make money from these sites. Many survey sites are found on CPA networks. These offers pay anywhere between $1.50 to $5 for each panelist that signs up through your CPA link. All you would need to do is build a simple website that lists some of the survey sites, along with details about them (how much they usually pay per survey, how long it takes to get paid, etc.). It’s also a good idea to include some information that will teach visitors how survey sites work and how to maximize their earnings with them. The site itself doesn’t need to be fancy. A simple one-page site with a good layout will do.

Now, you are probably wondering how to get traffic to the site. After all, traffic is the key when promoting any type of CPA offer online. While it is possible to use pay per click ads, this niche is very competitive and it will be quite hard to turn up a profit, unless you are willing to do a lot of testing and optimizing.

There are some more efficient and less expensive ways:

Buy banner space on “Get paid to” web sites. These are sites where people get paid to read emails or sign up for web sites. One example of a decent, high traffic site with good advertising rates is DonkeyMails.com. Since the people on these sites are already seeking to earn money, the traffic would be quite targeted. Design an attractive banner or have a freelancer do it for a few dollars.

Another, more indirect advertising method is to use online classifieds sites, such as Backpage, Gumtree and Craigslist. However, it is not recommended that you link directly to your site, as the ad will look “spammy” and get flagged down rather quickly. Instead, write an ad that looks like this “Market research panelists needed. Earn $$$ today for your opinion. Contact Bob at (insert email) for more information.” You will get plenty of responses. Simply send them the link to your site by email.

Another effective way is to distribute paper fliers locally. Simply design a good looking flier and pass it out in the streets. For best results, pass these out on college campuses, or outsource the task to a student. College students are often looking for quick ways to earn money, so you will get more sign ups from them than from most other demographics.

To earn even more money, create one page for each country that you have CPA survey offers for. There are many offers that are only for the USA, Canada or UK. Then, target your advertising to these countries, for example by posting on Canadian cities in Craigslist.

Choosing A Web Hosting Provider – Part 1

If you are going to do business online, chances are you will need to put together a website. Whether you will only have one main website for your business or will need several different sites in order to promote products, you will obviously need a place to host your site. Here are certain things to look for when selecting a web host:

Bandwidth and storage

Today, many web hosting providers offer unlimited or very high storage limits. If your site is just a few pictures and some text pages, this won’t be much of a concern for you. But if you plan on running several sites, or include content that takes up a lot of space like videos or interactive games, it is something to look at. Bandwidth is the amount of data that can be transferred to and from your site every month. It won’t be much of a concern if you are just getting a few hundred hits a day or less and your site is relatively small in size. But if you host multimedia content such as streaming videos, or your site gets immensely popular all of a sudden, you may get close to your bandwidth limit. Note that if your bandwidth usage goes through the roof, even a host with supposedly “unlimited” bandwidth can kick you out.

Reliability

Everyone wants their site to be available at all times. After all, every minute that your site is down could mean lost money for you. While every host will advertise something like 99.9% reliability, it can be quite difficult to determine whether this is actually real or if it’s just an advertising gimmick. The best way to find out is to read some reviews online from some other webmasters to see what they think about a particular web host.

Price

Of course, this is a main point in making a decision about signing up for any service, including a web host. With decreasing costs and competition in the industry, the cost of web hosting has gone down in recent times. Do take note that certain web hosts require that you prepay for a certain amount of time. Some of them also give monthly rates, but they could work out to be more expensive than if you had taken a plan and paid in advance for a year or more. But you also need to consider as to whether you still plan on having that site up during all that time. Note that even if you decide to build a new site and get rid of your old one, you could still keep your hosting account. You would just need to get a new domain name and set it to point to your hosting account. But note that price should not be your main concern. Even if a host gives the best rates but their server goes down for hours each day, it will not be much of a benefit for you to use them.
