Avoid Going With Bad SEO Partners

Many webmasters that are looking to have their site go up on search engines are also seeking to partner up with others to help them manage either all or part of their SEO needs. Indeed, there are many reputable firms out there which offer excellent services to their clients. But remember, anybody can call themselves a “SEO Expert” and offer their services to unsuspecting buyers. If you want to avoid wasting money on poor results, here are some things you will want to keep under consideration:

Avoid Giving Large Projects to Unknown Businesses

There are plenty of webmasters out there which would like to have one company handle all of their SEO needs, such as on page optimization, content production, backlink building, etc. While this is fine, it often involves paying more than a few hundred dollars in advance. This is something you should be careful with. Check the reputation of the people you will be dealing with beforehand. Take a look at their online presence to see if they’ve been operating for a long time and if they have some actual satisfied clients.

Be Careful With Cheap Content Providers

One of the main areas of SEO would be the creation of content. We all know that it’s important to have unique articles or blog posts to help rank your pages. There are many content providers online, but also there are many of them which aren’t good. The general rule is avoid those that offer services too cheaply. If they offer to create 10 x 500 word articles for $10… then you should know that something’s not right. Yes, you’ll probably receive your content. But the following will happen: either these will be plagiarized articles that were simply copied from the web and had a few words changed here and there, or they will simply be articles written in poor English that just have your keywords thrown in at random. Anyone familiar with SEO will know that such content will be useless to you.

Same Thing With Backlink Builders

First of all, buying backlinks is not a recommended practice for durable SEO. Your backlinks should come naturally either from your own efforts such as by including links to your site in social media or YouTube videos that you post, or from other people that link to your site’s pages because they truly found the content to be useful. If you check out freelancing sites or webmaster forums, there will often be members claiming that they can get you hundreds of high quality backlinks for a few dollars. More often than not, these backlinks are definitely not of the quality that was promised and are actually quite bad, coming from sites that are either unrelated to your niche or which already contain dozens of links to completely different sites, which will do nothing to help you with SEO. Also, too many of these links will get your site penalized as it will look like you’re trying to game the system with search engines.

Common Mistakes in Social Media Marketing

Common Mistakes in Social Media Marketing

A lot of businesses, both big and small, have realized the importance and the virtually unlimited potential that social media marketing has. Of course, participating in social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Myspace is good for any business. However, you social media marketing campaigns need to be done properly in order for them to net you the maximum benefit. There are certain things that are best avoided. Here is an overview of the most common mistakes that businesses make when using various kinds of social media sites:

Excessive Advertising

When establishing a presence on social media sites, the first thing that any business owner needs to keep in mind is that these sites were never built to be used as advertising platforms for businesses. Rather, they were created with the goal of providing a place for people to connect with others. Therefore, if all you do is bombard people with commercial messages, they will either drop you or simply not pay attention to what you are saying. Advertisements, such as posting promotional Tweets or Facebook wall messages should be done in limited numbers.

Not Updating Your Page

Social networks are places where users constantly post new information about themselves for the world to see. Your business page should be no different. Make sure that you update it regularly. Even if you don’t have any new products or promotions, you could always make some interesting posts related to your business, such as industry news, information on upcoming product launches, or general advice that is related to your niche. Let’s say that you are in the business of selling vacuum cleaners. You could post information on how to select the best vacuum cleaner, etc.

If you have a page that looks “dead” because it wasn’t updated in a long time, users will gradually lose interest in it as there is nothing new for them to see.

Not Spending Enough Time on Putting Together Your Page

Your business page on social networks is there to reflect your business. As such, its design and message should be consistent with your existing website. If possible, choose a color scheme and font that resembles closely to the one on your main website. It is important that your social media page looks interesting and well made. If you put something together that looks like you made it in 5 minutes while watching TV, it will give it a “cheap” look that reflects poorly on your business.

If you need ideas or are having trouble improving your page, there are plenty of guides that provide details on using specific social networks that you can buy or download for free online. There are also various social media marketing forums that can provide advice or design a page for you. Remember, while building a social media page is not difficult, you will still have to put in a decent amount of time and effort into it if you expect it to bring you good results.

Avoiding Scams When Working With Others You Meet Online

Avoiding Scams When Working With Others You Meet Online

In the internet marketing world, many people run their own business from home and thus run everything by themselves, a “one man show” of sorts. However, there are many cases where running everything by yourself could prove to be very difficult. So if you want to expand your business, you may find it necessary to partner up with others in the IM world or to hire some workers to perform certain tasks for you. This, of course, does not come without its risks. While in a perfect world, everyone would be honest and reliable, in reality this isn’t the case. More so in cyberspace.

Now let’s say you find someone on a forum to team up with on a project or do some work together, there are ways to reduce the risk of getting scammed. Here are some easy things that you should consider:

  • Look at the person’s reputation and history. This is quite easy to do on a forum, since you will be able to see how many posts the user has made and when they have joined the forum. It goes without saying that someone who has made hundreds of useful contributions, been part of a community for several years and has had many successful deals with other members is much less likely to pull a fast one than a guy who just signed up yesterday. But don’t completely let your guard down either. There have been cases where long time users and even moderators on some forums have been involved in scams that robbed users of over six figures in total.
  • Think about the deal or offer… does it seem right to you? Use some basic logic. If someone claims they can design a complete web site for you for $5, or that they can bring you thousands of targeted visitors just by joining their $29.99 a month membership site, do you see that something seems fishy here?
  • If possible, ask to see samples of their work. When you order a service, such as logo creation or article writing, ask to see some original work from the service provider. If they make excuses as to why they can’t, or send you something that looks like it was simply lifted from a random website, once again, something doesn’t seem right.
  • Do a quick Google search of their user name, business name, email address, etc. to find out as much information as possible about a user that you are planning to do business with. This will sometimes let you find some interesting information, such as whether complaints have been made against them on websites like scam.com or RipoffReport.

When to Hire a Contractor

When to Hire a Contractor

One of the most overlooked aspects of working online is hiring a contractor.

Let’s face it, not everyone can do everything online, and if they think they can they are joking themselves or they are taking way to much time to get work done because they are having to learn/struggle with every single aspect of web design, article writing, SEO, or some other area that is outside their expertise and they are spending way to much time on tasks that they are having to learn as they go or just take them a long time because of inexperience.

My niche is article writing. I was never found of writing in school, but I learned very quickly online that I was meant for it. I can write decently fast, not 90 words per minute, but I am able to get my ideas down on the “paper” as fast as I can think of them. I learned that when writing about subjects I enjoy I can write almost all day about them, hence why I write only on my niches I like to work on.

It could be different for you, maybe you love SEO, and playing the search engine game. That’s fine, it’s great even. Or maybe you are an awesome designer and just love creating useful art for websites, etc.

Whatever you do almost can be utilized online, however trying to learn everything else can be a mistake.

If you are a great web designer, why not hire a great copywriter to help you sell your services to potential clients instead of struggling to create website content to showcase your work?

If you are an SEO expert throw up a WordPress blog and hire a designer to create you a temple to showcase your SEO skills.

For me, as an article writer I am a bit SEO (but not all the way) with my keyword density, but I could hire both an SEO expert to get my on page SEO down and a designer to create my website for which I write.

Instead of trying to do things halfway, it is a lot easier and will save you a lot of time by simply hiring an outsourcer to do the work for you. Don’t be afraid to spend a little bit of money, because if the contractor is worth their weight, they will provide you with returns long after the work is completed.

Introduction to Ezine Article Publishing

Introduction to Ezine Article Publishing

EzineArticles.com is one of the leading article directories online today and has been established for a very long time in the marketing and article space.

Ezine Articles essentially lets your post your articles (rewritten for Ezine or as you posted on your own blog) to their database of articles with millions of visits each month. What that does, is it brings you visitors and backlinks to your website creating a lot of value for your business.

Some people make a living by posting to Ezine and linking out to affiliate products or their own products and selling people from their articles on the products and websites.

Ezine is a very powerful tool that should be in every internet marketers business plan.

There are two differing camps when it comes to article publishing on article directories. Some people believe that all the content must be unique that you post on your blog, therefore you should never post vanilla posts from your blog onto article directories. Then, there are other internet marketers who have claimed they have had no ill effects from publishing the same article from their blog a few days later on the most popular article directories. Personally, I have no problem posting my articles from my own blog onto article directories, but I usually wait at least a week before I do so, that way I have time for my own articles to be indexed and to appear as the original article source.

Once you are ready to start publishing, it is a good idea to go through and read some of the Ezine Articles to see what style are most popular and which topics seem to be as well.

You are not allowed to use affiliate links directly in your Ezine articles, so instead you need to set up a sub directory with 301 redirect to your affiliate link, if that is the way you are going to go.

Linking is also very closely monitored, you can not have links in the first 2/3rd’s of the article, so be conscience of that so that you can save yourself some frustration, there is also a limit on the number of links that are allowed.

Ezine Articles can be a very powerful tool to incorporate into your business, learning the ropes first and taking it slowly (so you don’t get banned) is important so that you can create unique content that will garner you some great responses to your links, in turn making you some money.
