Building a Home Page that Will Convert

When someone sees your website for the first time, chances are they will end up on your main home page. But how do you build a good home page, meaning one that will be able to convert website visitors into profitable customers for your business? There are certain elements that will definitely have an influence on your conversion rates. By implementing these tips on your own website, you will see that they result in better customer satisfaction with your site and ultimately will lead to higher conversion rates among your site visitors.

Keep Your Design Simple and Straightforward

A cleanly designed website has more chance of capturing the visitors attention and will want to make them visit your site further. This is why the layout of your site is important. One of the best ways to go around building a clean looking website is to have a menu bar on top which will show different categories and then link to different pages on your website. Avoid having the user scroll too much when they visit your home page. It shouldn’t look like a long sales copy for an eBook, where the user will be constantly scrolling down for several minutes just to see the rest of the content. Try to present as much information as possible to the user without them needing to scroll down further.

Include Calls to Action

While some may believe that calls to action are only useful or necessary on pages that are actively selling a product, they can be used with great success on home pages as well. If there’s a certain product or service that you’re offering which you want to draw attention to, put it up on your home page as a featured item. Then include a call to action, such as “Check out our Winter Collection”, or “Click Here for a Free Quote Now!”. A user is more likely to stay on your website if you include a message on it that asks them to proceed further, rather than letting the user figure it out on their own.

Make Sure Your Site Is Up To Date

Remove any expired promotions, or links to items that you no longer carry. While this should be quite obvious, there are many cases where this doesn’t get done, even on the websites of big and successful companies. Be sure that all the information that you present on your home page is current and relevant. You don’t want the visitor to click on something and then end up greeted by a page showing an error message due to a page that was removed or a product that doesn’t exist anymore. Also, people like to see a website that has been updated recently, so maintaining a small news feed area with recent announcements about your products or your business is also an excellent idea to keep your site visitors interested in what you have to say.

Building Your Landing Page the Right Way

Building Your Landing Page the Right Way

The landing page is the first thing that any visitor which clicks on your ads will see. As such, it is most important that you make a good first impression with your visitors from the very beginning. After all, if they don’t like what they see, many will simply leave right from the start. However, there are a couple of very simple things that you can do to make your landing page a successful and high converting one.

The first step would be simply to ensure that your landing page is relevant to what you are saying in your ads. So for example, if you are having a certain promotion where customers get 50% off a certain product or service that you are selling, make sure that your landing page shows this in a prominent manner. Because if a visitor clicks on your ad and then doesn’t see anything related to what they just saw on the ad they’ve clicked, they would think the promotion is finished, or feel misled and then leave the page.

Including a strong call to action is an important thing if you want your landing page to be successful and bring you the conversions that you need. At the end of the landing page, you should tell the reader what they should do and include a “click here” type of button to make them continue to the specific page on your website. So for example if you are running an online apparel store and you have a 50% off promotion on pants, put a button on your landing page that will redirect the visitor to the pants section of your website. This is a lot better than simply having one which will just continue on to the main page of your site.

A good landing page is one that is cleanly designed and that is specific to a certain promotion, or product that you would like to showcase. For this reason, you should avoid having any elements on the page that are not related to what you are promoting in your ads. While you may think that this could increase sales, in reality it will not, as it can simply lead to confusing the visitor even further if you overwhelm them with information right from the start. This is not to say that you shouldn’t try to up sell or cross sell with your site visitors. However, this should be done later on in the buying process and not simply on your landing page. If you have several different items that you are promoting, then it is better to make separate landing pages and ad groups for each of them, instead of putting everything together on one landing page.

The final piece of advice when it comes to constructing landing pages is that you should always want to test out a few designs first. Split test your landing pages to see which ones would produce the best results and bring you the most conversions.

Using a Content Locker for CPA

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Using a Content Locker for CPA

One of the ways to earn money by using CPA networks is by using a content locker, also called a gateway on your website. This is something that can be used with incentive offers to increase conversions. Now what exactly does a gateway do? The principle is very simple. When a user gets to your page, a content gateway will pop up, asking them to complete a CPA offer before they get access to the content presented. These offers are usually short email submits or mobile offers that pay around $1 to $2 a lead.

Is this better than simply having CPA text ads or banners on your site? Well, the answer is usually yes. Many people are used to seeing ad banners, especially the cheesy “Shoot X to get an iPhone” type of ads and will usually ignore them. However, with a content gateway, they will actually have to complete one offer before they get access to the content that they want. Sure, some of them will simply walk away and go to another website. However, some of the visitors will complete the offer, especially if they are really looking forward to seeing the content that is presented on your website.

Many of you may be thinking: sounds great! How do I set this up on my site? There are essentially two ways to do this: either you can sign up for a CPA network such as CPA Lead or Adscend Media, that offers CPA content locking gateways, or use a third party script with incentive offers from another network. Of course, the first would be much easier, as the script has already been designed by the CPA network and all you would need to do is to insert some pre formatted code on your website. If you do use a third party script with another network, make sure that you only do so with incentive offers. Also, discuss with your affiliate manager first to see if you are allowed to do so, to make sure that there are no restrictions on this type of marketing with the network that you are using.

One question that remains is: should you use this on your site at all? The answer here will vary. If you have a completely new website that you’ve just started sending traffic to, then this might be a good idea. However, on the other hand if you have an established site with plenty of regular visitors, you may want to think twice before using a content locker on it. This is because if you are already making a good amount of revenue from these visitors from “regular” CPA offers or pay per click ads, you might risk losing some of your regular traffic if these visitors don’t really like the idea of filling out a CPA offer to get to your content. But there is always a compromise, for example you can set up a “premium” section of your website that requires filling out a CPA offer to access. Or you could display the gateway only to random users, or after they have visited a certain amount of pages on your website.

Understanding different types of CPA offers

Understanding different types of CPA offers

If you haven’t joined a CPA network before, you may be wondering what types of offers are available for you to promote. Here is a quick overview of most of the offer types that you will find on networks today:

Email Submits: These offers will give you credit for the user submitting only their email address. Depending on the merchant, the user may or may not have to confirm their email address by opening up a message with a confirmation link in it. However, usually they won’t have to. Most of the email submit offers are for the “free ipod” type sites, which will let the user earn a gift by completing more offers on the merchants site. The reason why merchants can pay to get just an email address is because some of the users who input their email (a tiny minority) will go on to complete some of the offers that the merchant has on their site. They also add the user’s email to their mailing list and will then send him email advertising as well.

PIN Submits/Cell phone offers: Here the user will have to submit their cell phone number, usually to get some mobile content such as free wallpapers, ringtones, a daily horoscope sent by SMS, jokes sent by SMS or applications for cell phones. By doing so, they will subscribe to the merchant’s service which will charge them each time they receive text messages or content from them.

Form Submits: You get credit for the user filling out a form, usually to sign up for a free service, such as a dating site or a social network. The rationale behind these offers for the merchant is that a certain percentage of users will either upgrade their membership to a paid one later or otherwise buy something from them.

Lead offers: Similar to above but longer and more detailed, may involve the user filling out 3 or 4 pages of forms. Often used to get quotes for debt consolidation, mortgage or insurance offers.

Download offers: You get paid when the user downloads a piece of software such as an application, browser extension or toolbar. The merchant pays for each download due to the fact that their software may serve ads to the user or there may be a paid version available which they hope a certain percentage of users will upgrade to.

Credit card submit/trial offers: Here, the user gets a trial of a service, such as an internet fax service, “make money online” membership site, etc. or a product like a weight loss pill, teeth whitening product, vitamin supplement, etc. The user normally gets charged a small fee such as $2 or $3 for the trial. However, when the trial period is over and the user didn’t cancel, the merchant will then bill them the regular price, which can range from $20 to $100 a month. These offers typically pay more than other types, but are harder to promote as the user needs to input payment information.

What Should You Do With Your Newsletter?

It takes a lot of effort to build up a good list, and once you have one built up, you have to be careful not to lose subscribers. You need to handle your newsletter the right way. The obvious thing to do with your newsletter is to promote your products and services, and while it is a good idea to do so, you have to do more than that. If you just send out sales emails, your subscribers will stop reading your emails, unsubscribe to your list, or even start flagging your emails as spam. To avoid losing readers, there are a few tings you can keep in mind.

Entertain And Inform

Do your best to entertain, and inform y our subscribers with your newsletter. Keep them informed of any interesting news happening in your niche, and if you come across an entertaining video, comic, or other article related to your niche, be sure to share it with your readers. If you can inform, and entertain your readers, they’ll open your emails every time they see one hit their inbox. In other words, you’ll have more eyes on your sales emails when you send them if you take the time to send out informative, or entertaining emails on a regular basis.

Updates To Your Site

Share any information about new features or products you plan to offer on your site in your newsletter. This type of information goes over well for sites that have blogs, or other methods for sharing information about your niche. When sharing information about site updates, it’s important to keep it clear and concise. Don’t ramble on about the changes you’re making, just give your readers the primary details.

Sales Information

You’re going to want to send out promotional emails to your subscribers, but you have to be sure to present that information the right way. If you’re sending out a promotional email, be sure to lead in with your best or most exciting offer. Don’t make your readers scroll through a  lot of information before showing them the best promotion you have to offer. Also, keep your promotions clear, and concise, and don’t leave out any essential details. If there are exceptions to a sale you’re running, be sure to mention them in the sales email. A well constructed sales email will bring in more sales than you might think.

Using your email newsletter the right way can do great things for your website. Keep these tips in mind, and you’ll have a newsletter that your subscribers are happy to read.

Giving Away Something to Your List

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Giving Away Something to Your List

When you finally start getting a list together of perspective people interested in what you are doing, you need to give them something.

Once they are opted in – giving them a free gift such as an audio book, ebook, video series, or access to premium content (limited of course) gives them an incentive to stay tuned to what you are doing next.

For example, in order to get people to opt in you could offer a free 10 step guide to starting your own internet business (if that is your niche) to get them to sign up to your newsletter.

Once there, that is when you start giving them away information for free. Don’t simply spam them with links to affiliate products. Create value for them.

If you are trying to sell a video series on outsourcing, a great lead in to that would be a video of yourself giving a quick overview of what the program offers, how much it costs, and some great things they will learn from doing it. Even give away the first 5 minutes of the first video for free.

Giving free content without commitment from the buyer is a great way to build social proof and trust. You can show them the quality of the offering without them having to worry before buying it what the content will be like.

There are many times I am interested in a video series or ebook but without a sample I will not purchase it — simply because I haven’t had a chance to see the quality. So give a sample in the email and let the people know what they are going to be getting into (in a great way).

Another thing is to space your affiliate or selling emails out. Maybe once every two to three times you email is a good idea to try (test it out to see how your list responds). That way, it doesn’t feel like you are trying to consistently push an idea or product on them, something that will deteriorate your relationship with them and cause them to be skeptical of your intentions.

In conclusion, provide value and gifts to your followers without asking for much in return. Give away plans, ideas, short ebooks, and videos. Without expectations. Create value for them, build trust, and when you finally decide to sell to them, you might just find they are more receptive to your offering.

Generating Testimonials For Your Products

Generating Testimonials For Your Products

Selling just about anything online can be extremely challenging. Every product imaginable is already for sale somewhere on the internet, and that means you need to set your product apart from the crowd in order to get it to sell well. One of the best ways to get your product some positive attention is to get a lot of favorable user testimonials up on your website. There are two sure fire ways you can generate some quality user testimonials from your customers.

The first is to offer them something in return for their testimonial. By “something” we don’t mean money. Your customers won’t trust a paid testimonial. In fact, paid testimonials can even lead to a negative impact on sales. Customers get the impression that if you have to buy your testimonials, there must be something wrong with the product, or even that you were paying for favorable testimonials only. Instead of money, consider offering them a discount on their next purchase, or a coupon they can use whenever they’d like.

The other sure fire method is to simply ask your customers for testimonials. A week after they receive the product, send them an email asking them to submit a testimonial. Also, if you have any promotional videos up on your site for the product, make mention right in the video that testimonials are appreciated. If you have a Facebook, or Twitter account, send out a message occasionally asking your users to submit testimonials. You don’t want to bombard your customers with requests, but asking occasionally is likely to yield results, even if you’re not offering anything in exchange for the testimonial.

Once you have some testimonials coming in, it’s important to be clear about what information you are going to share about the customer. For example, some people might prefer that you only show their initials, rather than their full name. Others might be OK with their first name, and last initial. Some people might be comfortable with you showing what town their from, others might not. It’s a good idea to yield to the customer’s wishes and display their name the way they want you to. It’s better to have more testimonials up than not, so it’s OK to sacrifice some of those details in exchange for having one more testimonial on your site.

Ask your customers for testimonials, offer them incentives, and honor their wishes. If you do those things, you’ll have a lot of high quality testimonials up in no time.

Tips for Using Blogs as a Traffic Source

Tips for Using Blogs as a Traffic Source

A great example of a nicely integrated store/blog.

Blogs can be a great source of traffic for your main website. If you are selling Android accessories for Android based cellphones, it would be a great idea to have a blog set up as a side project in order to do a few things:

  • Keep your buyers and customers informed.
  • Keep constant new information coming from your website which can then be picked up by Google.
  • Announce product updates, etc.

As an Android accessory sales website owner, your most important thing is to get users and visits who A) have Android phones and B) might potentially buy something. It can be a great attractor for your visitors to see that you have a blog because it gives a personal element to your site as well.

Blogs are one of the resources which are free or very cheap to set up. These services are one of the essential traffic sources that any advertising plan needs to get more exposure to specific websites. The common options do take time to increase in readers and thus improving the influence it can have on the audience. Well established Blogs are also an important resource when you use them wisely to help you provide traffic to your websites.

The most common option is to create a blog with a popular service and keep it updated. The blog can be anything relating to the business, products or services which are being offered. The more information that is placed on these blogs, the more can be indexed into search engines which will help route common searches to the blogs, which in turn could route traffic to the website(s) that need the traffic. This option does take time, but the great thing is that many blogs can be created and be about different subjects in the industry and still lead traffic to the same website(s).

The other option which works well is to keep watch for blogs that offer information about the same field or subject that relates to the websites needing promotion. These blogs will usually have comment sections that allow for comments from readers to be shown. Of course, many of these comment fields will be offered with spam protection so the comments need to sound natural to post without being filtered out. The way that these comments can help improve traffic to websites is the fact that they are usually indexed by search engines. They can be used to place a link back to the websites that are being promoted for additional search engine weight.
