How the Google Penguin Update Can Affect Your SEO

The Google Penguin update, if you haven’t heard of it, has been released 3 months ago. The main purpose behind the update doesn’t really deviate that much from the goals that previous Google updates had: to reward websites which have good content and provide an overall good experience for their users, while penalizing sites which rely on black hat tactics such as link spamming or keyword stuffing.

When you talk about SEO, then the keywords will obviously be something very important. Previously, giving a lot of consideration to keyword density, as well as the placement of keywords within a page were seen as very important things for any webmaster or online business owners. But this part of the SEO game has changed a bit, as Google is trying to eliminate the “spammy” site from its rankings. Placing your keywords in the title of your content, as well as close to the beginning, is still a good practice. However, webmasters now need to focus more on diversifying their keywords. This means using related words and phrases when possible, rather than just reusing the same words over and over again. Using related keywords will also make the text flow better and look easier to read to a human, which is something that Google wants.

Of course, it is not only on site factors that have changed since the Penguin updated rolled out in April of 2012. Google is now trying to better determine the overall quality of a website by analyzing the link profile. This simply means how many links a website has, where the links are coming from, how much the links have grown recently and what anchor text is being used on these links. It is believed that the anchor text is going to get a lot more attention with Penguin. This is to deter would be comment and link spammers from posting a site link with the same anchor text hundreds, or thousands of times all over the web with the hopes that this will improve the site’s rankings, as it is getting more backlinks.

Of course, this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work on creating backlinks anymore, but there might be a few changes that you may want to do from now on. The main thing to focus on is diversifying your anchor texts. Don’t simply use one keyword for all of your incoming site links. This is one of the fastest ways that you can get your site penalized under the new update. Rather, try to vary that text as much as you can. If you leave comments on forums or blogs, make sure that your comment is not only relevant to your website, but also to the site where you’re posting it on. Generic comments, such as “nice site” or “I agree” may have worked a few months ago, but Google is increasingly cracking down on them, as they simply pollute the comment sections of many blogs by offering nothing that is of value to the discussion.

More About the Google Panda Update

More About the Google Panda Update

Ever since the Google Panda Update has been launched, there has been a lot of talk about it in the online marketing world. However, many people still don’t understand what exactly the update is all about and how it can affect a website. Here is some more information about it and ways to avoid problems associated with this update from Google.

The most important things to understand is what Panda actually is. Essentially, it is a filter that weeds out content that doesn’t have enough substance. The filter is ran on a periodic basis. Every time that it is, all the content indexed by Google goes through the filter again. Therefore, any content that has been caught up in the filter the first time can go through if it has been improved enough. If it’s still poor, then it will remain there and suffer a penalty in the rankings.

Some have argued that Panda is a completely new way that Google uses to rank web pages. This actually isn’t true. There are more than 200 different factors that Google uses to rank pages in search engine results. The Panda update is just one of them.

The main purpose of the Panda update when it was released in February 2011 was to deal with “content farms”. These are websites that have been responsible for “polluting” search results by returning web pages that had little relevance to the keywords that were being searched for by the user. A content farm is a website that usually employs several writers (can sometimes range in the thousands), which create content such as articles, reports, blog posts, etc. that are targeted towards some popular keywords being searched. These sites profit from the traffic that they receive when users click on the ads that they publish, which are usually for products that are loosely related to what the content on the page talks about. The quality of the information on a content farm can vary. Some sites have nearly professional quality content, while on others it simply reads like a bunch of gibberish written by someone who hasn’t even mastered basic English.

Since then, several updates to Panda have been released, by the main purpose is still the same: keeping low quality content from ranking well in search results. Websites that were penalized because of the update have a chance to change things. To get rid of the penalty, all a webmaster needs to do is to remove the content that is of poor quality, or replace it with something that is well written and relevant to the keywords that are targeted on the site.

The basic principles of search engine optimization still apply. Websites that provide their users with high quality content and that target keywords which are closely related to what they have on their site should not experience too many issues with this, or any of the future updates done by Google to the way they rank search results.

Building Multiple Streams of Income

Building Multiple Streams of Income

If you want to make more money online, there are a few ways that you can make this happen. While the specific details will vary according to what kind of online business you are in at the moment, there is some good advice that you can use no matter what you are doing at the moment and what you would like to do in the future.

One of the important things is to: Work on building multiple streams of income, but do it well

We all hear that earning money online successfully involves having multiple streams of income. This is a common topic that comes back in nearly every “Make Money Online” ebook being sold. And this is not just another marketing gimmick to get authors to sell more products. The reason why so many give this advice is because it works, period.

This is even true in the “offline” world. If you ask a person who is very successful financially and has a net worth of several million about how they make their money, they will probably tell you that they run several businesses at the same time. They may own a restaurant franchise, an apartment building, a car wash, a gas station, etc. All of these businesses bring them money.

This gives them the opportunity to not only make more money, but to ensure that they would keep making money should conditions change and one of their businesses wouldn’t be as profitable anymore.

The same is true online. It is better to have 4 websites in different niches making $25 a day than just one website making $100 a day. However, some people don’t approach this concept the right way. They see “multiple streams of income” and believe that it means “do everything at once”. Obviously, this is not a winning strategy, because it would probably degenerate into “do everything at once but do nothing well enough”.

A better strategy for success would be building each site or business one at a time. Focus your efforts on only one or two things at the same time, maximum. Then, when this business starts rolling well and brings you revenue like you want it, you can then start thinking about whether you’re ready to build something else that would work too.

After some time, you would be able to get multiple streams of income coming in from different websites, businesses, products, etc. that you own. This is one of the principal elements of successful online money making.

There are other tips that you can apply in the online business world that will help you earn the revenue that you’ve always wanted from your activities. Tomorrow we will consider some other pieces of advice that you can use to do just that.

Niche and Content Ideas for Info Products

Niche and Content Ideas for Info Products

When you want to create an info product, one of the important things to think about is what exactly your product will be based on. This is the part where you will do your research on your niche and try to find one that will be right.

A good niche is one which has people interested in paying for a product that will solve a problem and answer their questions, but is specific enough to not be too saturated with other products. So for example, instead of a general product about “affiliate marketing”, you could create an info product about “Using Twitter for Affiliate Marketing”, etc.

Doing niche research will take a bit of time to complete, but it’s not a complicated task. You can use Google’s keyword tool to see search volumes and competition levels for specific keywords that are related to your niche. You can also read Yahoo Answers, blogs and discussion forums to find out the type of questions that people are asking the most often about your general niche and see if there’s a more specific, sub niche that you can exploit from that.

Also, doing niche research involves looking at the competition. Are there any other info products which target the specific niche that you are after? If so, what do they claim they offer and how much do these products cost? What can you do to make your product better than competitors and thus more appealing to buyers? These are all valid questions that you would need to ask yourself when you’re in the niche selection phase of product creation. Remember, a successful product will often be one that offers something more and actually stands out from the crowd, rather than simply being the same thing that has been done dozens of times, just under a different name.

Now that you have thought about and selected your specific niche, it is time to consider the content that you will put in your product. There are many different ways that you can deliver the content, such as in the format of an ebook, videos, interactive tutorials, audio guides, etc. Sure, some formats might be better in certain niches, but the actual content of your product is the most important part, regardless of how you will be delivering it to the buyer.

Obviously, when creating a product, having some solid knowledge and experience in the niche of your product will help out a lot. You will already have an idea of what you will want to include in your product and how you will structure the information contained in your future product. This is why it’s also recommended that you select a niche that you actually have an interest in, as it will make creating the content a lot easier and less time consuming for you. Tomorrow we will explore some further ideas on how you can put together a product that will be genuinely useful for your buyers and will have a higher chance of getting a positive reception.

Building Your Blog for Online Marketing: Part 2

Building Your Blog for Online Marketing: Part 2

Previously, we’ve seen a few tips that would help you build a blog that you can use for online marketing. While deciding on the kind of content you will have on your blog, choosing a good hosting provider and monetizing your blog are important things to consider, there are also a few other tips you should keep in mind if you want your new blog to be a great tool that will help you make more money online. Here are some more of them:

Choose a Good Theme

When you create a blog by using a system such as WordPress or Joomla, you get thousands of options when it comes to themes for your new blog. A theme is basically an overall design, sort of like a template, that will determine the look and feel of your blog. Choosing a theme is relatively easy, as when you look through WordPress or Joomla, you will see thousands of free themes, as well as some paid ones that you can instantly apply to your blog. However, this is not something that you will want to rush into. It’s better for you to look carefully at all the designs available and select one that will work well for you.

The theme that you use will need to match well with your business and should be similar in appearance to your main website. Don’t hesitate to ask colleagues for advice on which theme will be better for you.

If you have some graphics and programming knowledge, you can design your own blog theme, or edit an existing one to make it match your needs better. You can also pay someone to make a custom made theme just for your blog, however the services of a professional theme designer could cost several hundreds of dollars.

Make Sure Your Blog is Inviting to the User and Easy to Navigate

One of the most common complaints that blog readers have is that the blogs seem to be filled with ads, opt in boxes and other monetization options, so much that it is difficult to actually see what link will lead them to an actual content page and which one is an ad. Of course, it’s important for you to make money from your blog and this is probably one of your primary objectives. But remember that the first purpose of the blog is a communication tool that you use to convey information to your visitors. Therefore, it needs to be easy to navigate for the user.

To determine whether you’re doing things right, create your blog and install your theme, make any customizations necessary and add a few test posts. Then show the result to some people to see whether they like it or not. Get some input on what they think should be changed or improved on your new blog. This will allow you to make some changes before you officially launch your blog.

More Tips For Driving Traffic To Your Site

More Tips For Driving Traffic To Your Site

A strong internet marketing campaign is nothing without traffic. The more traffic you can generate for your website, the more potential customers you’ll have looking at your products. There are a few important things you can keep in mind in order to help you drive traffic to your site, and ultimately, generate more sales.

Research

Do some research to determine what qualities your audience is looking for in a website. If you already have a little bit of traffic, offer your current audience a poll about what features they’d like to see you implement in the future. If you’re just starting out, take a look at other sites in your niche, and see what types of features they’re offering their audience. Do everything in your power to offer your audience a rich set of attractive features.

Strong Writing

No matter what niche you’re in, chances are, you’re not alone. That means your content has to stand out if you’re going to succeed in driving more traffic to your site. Take the time to write strong articles, and other interesting content for your site. Don’t just try to recreate what other sites in your niche have done, try to do something different, and unique. If you’re having trouble writing high quality content, there’s no shame in hiring a writer.

Advertise

In addition to the Google and Facebook ads you’re probably already familiar with, you can also set up deals with larger sites in your niche whereby you can get an ad placed on their site for a fixed amount of time. Be sure to get any and all information you can about their traffic, and their audience before agreeing to place the ad on their site. Also, don’t advertise on sites that don’t relate directly to your audience. You’re more likely to get new visitors from your target audience that haven’t heard of your site than you are to get visitors from a different audience all together.

So remember, do some research about your visitors’ wants and needs, set your writing apart from the crowd in some way, and advertise with larger sites in your niche. These things will help you to generate more traffic to your site in no time.

Selling Your Information Product Online

Selling Your Information Product Online

Information products like ebooks, and reports can be a great way for a strong writer to bring in some money online. You’ve probably heard that part before, but just how do you go about selling an ebook online? There are a few effective methods you can use to get your information product out there.

Clickbank offers services other than affiliate programs. By registering with them, you can sell your information straight through them, and they’ll even help you set up a network of affiliates that push your product for you. If your product gets enough affiliates, you’ll have to do very little active selling in order to make a profit. If other people are doing the legwork for you, you can spend your time working on your next ebook rather than spending your time selling your current ebook. Click bank does charge for these services, but the fees are reasonable, and there’s a good chance you’ll be able to offset the fees  easily with a strong product.

Commission Junction offers similar services, but they offer you a little more control.  With CJ, you can choose to approve each potential affiliate who wants to promote your product. By choosing your affiliates carefully, you can minimize the risk of fraudulent transactions, as well as minimizing any damage a bad affiliate could do to your brand.

Of course, you could always just opt to sell your information product straight through your website. You’re going to need a few important things if you decide to go this route. First you’re going to need a well designed website. If your site looks unprofessional, your customers are going to be reluctant to purchase anything from you. You’re also going to need a method for accepting payments. Paypal is an affordable method to take payments, and you can also go through a bank in order to get a credit card gateway set up.  Be sure to shop around for the right credit card gateway for your needs. There are often a lot of fees associated with accepting credit card payments, and you might find that those fees can eat into your profits if you’re not careful.

Whichever method you choose, your success will depend on the quality of your information product. Take the time to write a good product, and be sure to promote it heavily after you launch it, and your information product will sell well.

Get More Incoming Links

Get More Incoming Links

The ultimate goal of any website is to get traffic. Success online rides completely on how much traffic your site gets. The more people that see your site, the better off you are. Each new visitor means a potential sale, or a potential click on one of your ads. One of the most important sources of traffic for any website is incoming links from other sites. There are a few important things you can keep in mind in order to get more incoming links to your site.

Getting other people to link to you is all about high quality content. No other tip for getting incoming links will do you any good if your content isn’t appealing to your readers. Try to think about your readers, and what sort of problems and questions they might have. Each article you write for your site should aim to solve a problem, or answer a question for your readers. If you’re helping them with a problem, they’ll be excited about your content, and they’ll be more inclined to share it with a friend.

Once you have some high quality content in place, it’s time to start getting the word out about it. Start by sharing the content with your Facebook fans, and Twitter followers. Once you’ve done that, think about all of the sites you visit on a daily basis. If you’re on any forums regularly, be sure to put your link in your signature. If you comment frequently on any blogs, make sure to fill out the “website” section of your profile. Once you are putting your content out there, it’s only a matter of time before other sites start picking it up.

If you have been putting your content out there, but you don’t feel like it’s catching on as quickly as it should, take a few minutes, and politely email the owners and editors of any large sites in your niche. Let them know about your content, and ask, again, politely, if they’d share it with their readers. They won’t all say yes, and that’s OK. If just one site larger than your own posts your link, it was worth your time.

Once you have a few links out there, the rest will basically take care of itself. As more and more people see your content, they’ll share it with their friends. As word gets around, other sites in your niche will start to talk about your content, even if you didn’t directly ask them to. Just remember, none of this matters if you don’t start with high quality content. That’s the real key to getting more incoming links.

Social Bookmarking And Affiliate Marketing

Social Bookmarking And Affiliate Marketing

If you’re at all familiar with online marketing, you probably know something about social bookmarking. For those not in the know, social bookmarking sites allow you to post links, and share them with other users. Most social bookmarking sises have a rating system in place where users can choose to vote a link up or down. If a link gets voted up enough, it gets featured on the site’s homepage. Now that you have a understanding of what social bookmarking is, you’re probably wondering exactly what it can do for you as an affiliate marketer.

The number one benefit social bookmarking can have for an affiliate marketer is that it can help you raise your search rank. Social bookmarking sites are among the most popular sites on the internet, and just having a link present on a social bookmarking site can help your site become more visible to search engines. Search engines determine a page’s value by looking at a variety of factors, one of which is the quality of sites that link to it. Social bookmarking sites have a high value  to search engines, so having a social bookmarking site link into your site will help to raise your search rank. When you’re running an affiliate website, it’s important to have a high search rank. Most of your traffic is going to come from search engines, and as such, using social bookmarking sites to boost your search rank is highly beneficial.

In addition to boosting your search rank, social bookmarking sites can also bring in a fair amount of traffic to your site. If you have a link on a social bookmarking site that gets popular, and makes it’s way to the homepage, it’s a safe bet that you’ll get a great deal of traffic to that link. It’s tough to get pages on affiliate sites to become popular on social bookmarking sites, but if your content is either extremely informative, or entertaining, it can definitely happen.

Social bookmarking sites can bring two of the most important things to your affiliate site: traffic, and a higher search rank. As your search rank goes up, so too will your traffic. As your traffic goes up, so to will your profits.Be sure to use good anchor text in your social bookmarking links, and you’ll see results in no time.

Promoting Your Website With A Blog

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Promoting Your Website With A Blog

A lot of companies have made blogs a strong part of their online marketing strategy, but not everyone knows exactly how to use their blog in an effective way. If you’re thinking about using a blog to help promote your product, service, or website, there are a few important things to keep in mind before diving in.

One of the most important things a blog can do for you is give your company a personality. By posting interesting stories relating to your product, and how customers are using it, you can shape how people view your product. For example, if your company sells blenders, it might be fun for your visitors to see youtube videos showing how to make the perfect smoothie, or maybe even recipes for the perfect margarita. By doing this, you’re associating your company with that awesome new smoothie recipe in the customer’s mind, thus impacting how they view you, and your product. You have now given your company a friendly personality by sharing something useful with the customer.

A blog can also help you to make all of the details about your product or service more consumable for the reader. A blog post showing someone using the product can get the idea across way better than a lengthy step by step set of instructions. When consumers are forced to sift through pages upon pages of dry reading material to learn what they need to know about your product or service, they will often lose interest, and try to find what they’re looking for elsewhere. By presenting information about your product or service in a short, easy to read blog post detailing how someone else is using your product or service, consumers suddenly begin to see that information as useful, and understandable, rather than overwhelming, and frustrating.

This one’s going to seem a little odd, but bear with me. You should avoid making blog posts strictly related to your product. Be sure to talk about things related to your niche, but not directly related to your company. If your blog feels like nothing more than an ad for your company, web savvy visitors will likely pass it by without a second glance. If you’re providing quality information they want to see, they’ll stick around and read a few other posts, some of which will be about your product.

Keep your blog friendly, and informative, and you’ll see the benefits. Your visitors will find your company more approachable, and customer friendly, and that in turn, will lead to sales.

Google AdSense Ad Network Marketing

Google Adsense is one of the most overlooked areas of monetization of projects in internet marketing sometimes. A lot of bloggers and content creators know about Adsense, but many affiliate marketers and straight internet marketers over look it for other more lucrative offers.

The thing is, however, is that Adsense can be used alongside other offers of CPA, Affiliate links, and more. Adsense doesn’t get in the way of those offers and the bright shiny pictures of your affiliate links will overshadow the text based Adsense stuff, and that is a good thing. Adsense can be a compliment and not the major source of income, but can be a great supplemental offering.

The process to market for ad revenue from Google is fairly simple. Of course the ads which are served on your websites will have two ways of being shown on your website when using AdSense:

  1. Ads served will be based off of keywords searched through Google to bring viewers to your site.
  2. Ads will derive from relevant content on your site when they arrive from links or direct URL input.

So it is necessary to build up the content on the site to where the ads that appear are relevant to what you will want to be paid for. To look up the value of keywords you will be getting paid for, you can use the keyword tool from Google AdWords (under previous interface) to see the average cost per click of keywords and their synonyms.

Composing content for the website will then need to pull from these keywords that you want to rank for on Google and other major search engines. The content, once created with the appropriate keywords will then be posted to the site and will be indexed by Google over time. When traffic makes its way to the site and the ads are served for the content you provide, it will be more likely that the ads are targeted appropriately.

One of the important things to take note of is to never try to rank for keywords with too much competition. Although the payouts in cost per click on these ad keywords is higher, you will more than likely not rank high enough for those keywords to actually receive ads for those keywords. The best strategy is to try and rank for a range of keywords with average or little competition so that people who do see the site when they search will more likely to click ads when they arrive.

Beginner SEO Tricks

Beginner SEO Tricks

Search Engine Optimization, SEO for short is actually really easy when you get the hang of it, all it takes is a bit of practice and work and your website will be up and ready to go SEO wise.

One of the most important things for SEO purposes is your top level domain or TLD. This is the extension on the end of your website such as .com, .net, .us, or .info. Those TLD are important because for some reason it takes a lot more work to get lesser known TLD in the rankings of search sites like Google. It is possible, but the success rate is much higher for .com, .net, and .org URLs.

Basic Design Tricks
Some of the best things you can do are centered around the design of your website. This includes using a CSS stylesheet instead of (old) HTML color and size tags. This will help clean up your website code and make it easier to index the content. ANother thing you can do is make sure that your navigation uses text links instead of image and javascript links. Doing this helps because it makes the navigation of the site easier to follow for the search bot, making all your pages indexable, instead of just the easiest ones to get to.

Do not use a splash page on your website (unless it is under construction). The splash page never has as much content as a good homepage does, so make sure you get rid of that splash page, yesterday (now).

Content Tricks
I wouldn’t really call this a trick, but write really good content. Pretty simple, right? Well, not always. Writing good content for SEO purposes can be really difficult, but once you learn how to write in a great style as an overall writer, learning to write for SEO is very easy. Basically search engines love keywords, they are what people are searching for. So for example if I have a website that is about “chocolate covered pancakes” that is what I want someone to type in to Google when they are searching. So I will make sure my website domain has chocolate covered pancakes in it, my title does, and most of all, my content. I will have sentences that contain those keywords that I want my site to rank for. So I will write about things like “chocolate pancake recipes” and other phrases like that to help my ranking within the search engines.
