Are Mobile Payment Solutions Really the Way of the Future for E-Commerce?

You may have seen a few pieces of online news about mobile payment solutions and wondered whether you should implement them on your website. Some articles even go as far as claiming that mobile payments are the way of the future and will revolutionize the online commerce industry. But is there any truth to these claims, or is it just marketing hype to get yet another “start up” run by a 19 year old entrepreneur from his basement off the ground?

When talking about mobile payment solutions, we first need to clear up one thing in order to avoid any potential confusion. There are actually two kinds of mobile payment options currently available in the online world. The first one is simply a type of mobile wallet that is linked to the customers credit card. The buyer can easily make transactions from their mobile phone without revealing their card information, but the purchase is still charged to their credit card as usual. The second kind involves charging the amount of the transaction to the buyer’s mobile phone bill or deducting it from their prepaid balance on their mobile account. The second one is the type that we will be addressing in this post.

First, let’s understand how the system works. The client wants to make a purchase online. They then enter their cell phone number into a secure form on an e-commerce site. They then receive a text message with information about the transaction (such as the cost) and will need to confirm they accept the charges, either by replying to the message or more commonly, by entering a code that is sent with the message onto the merchant’s website. They then have access to the product or service that they’ve ordered and the merchant will get paid by the payment processor later on, just like with a credit card transaction.

Sounds easy, right? The system is designed to allow for easy and smooth transactions with minimum risk to both the merchant and the customer. Using such a payment system has many advantages for both parties. It is good for buyers who don’t have a credit card or are reluctant to use theirs on an online commerce site, as it provides them with an alternative payment solution. It’s also a very good way to pay online for small purchases that are delivered directly to the buyer’s computer or for online services that don’t require any physical items to be shipped.

But should you run and implement this method of payment on your website immediately? The answer will depend on a few factors. As convenient as mobile payments may be, they are still far from being a perfect solution in all cases and it’s also important that merchants understand their potential disadvantages and not only look at the plus side. Tomorrow we will go into more details on the inner workings of mobile payments, which will be very helpful if you just started an e-commerce site and want to provide buyers with as many choices for payment as possible.

Some Overrated “Work From Home” Offers: Part 2

Some Overrated “Work From Home” Offers: Part 2

We’ve seen a few kinds of work from home offers that are often hyped online as excellent ways to make money but very often end up producing results that were far less than what they buyer would expect. And in many of these cases those involved have actually lost money instead of making any. While there are definitely many perfectly legitimate work from home opportunities which can help people earn money online from the comfort of their home, one needs to be very careful in evaluating the programs that they join. Think of how an experienced investor or business man would act when investigating a million dollar business opportunity. They would check out every detail of the deal, as well as the people behind it, to make sure that any claims that were made are actually true. What you need to do is similar.

Here are a few other examples of home based business opportunities that are often little more than hype:

  • Product Distribution

This shares some similarities with multi level or network marketing, but is actually a different business model. While you may get bonuses or commissions if you recruit new people into the business, the main focus here is to sell the actual products to consumers interested in them. This doesn’t mean, however, that the deal is going to be 100% legitimate and profitable. What you first need to do is to look at the products that you’re going to be selling. Is it something that people will really want to buy and keep buying in the long term, or is it just a “fad” product that will go out of style in a few months, if not weeks? What prices are you going to pay the supplier for the product and at what prices will you be able to sell it? Is there a real market for the product and which distribution channels can you use to sell it (online auctions, classifieds, e-commerce, physical kiosks/stores, etc)? You need to find an answer to all of these questions before you should jump into such an opportunity.

Also, you should be wary of any company that requires you to make a large bulk order before you can begin distributing the product. Very often, people who failed to pay close attention and get answers to the above questions have run into big problems. They ended up with a garage full of nearly worthless items that they simply had no way of selling at a profit, either online or offline.

When you sell physical items, you will also need to take into considerations the related costs of selling the products when you calculate the potential profits you can make. These costs include advertising fees, payment processing fees, online auction charges and more. While they may seem easy to ignore at first, the reality is that they can affect your profit margins in a significant way.

Tomorrow, we will take a look at some more work from home opportunities to watch out for.

Some Overrated “Work From Home” Offers

Some Overrated “Work From Home” Offers

If you’re looking for a way to make money online by working from home, you will find a great deal of perfectly legitimate and profitable business opportunities that you can take part in. The amount of time, effort and investment required for each of them will vary, but if you do your research correctly and don’t let yourself get influenced by marketing hype, there are great chances that you will find something to do. But there are a few types of “work from home” offers that, while generally not being fraudulent, are often overrated. This means they are presented with unrealistic earnings projections that often don’t live up to reality. Here are a few of them:

  • Paid survey offers

Yes, it IS possible to make SOME money from paid surveys. But unlike what some of the ads say, you probably won’t be able to get anything close to a full time income from them, at least not on a regular basis. If you sign up for some paid survey panels, you will probably get only 1 or 2 survey invitations a week, maximum. These surveys usually pay about $5. So even if you’re a member of several different panels, your earnings potential isn’t that great. While it may be an attractive option to get some beer money, doing paid surveys isn’t a “business” or even a job. Just a way to get a few extra dollars that may cover the cost of your internet connection and cell phone bill, but not much more.

  • Network marketing

There are plenty of perfectly legitimate and well run network marketing opportunities out there which have been running for decades now. But you should be aware that most of the income claims that are posted on websites touting them assume that you will be going out and recruiting more and more people every month into the program and that these people that you’ve recruited will take an active part in the program and also recruit some of their friends to join up.

Yes, there are people who make five figures a month from network marketing. But they’re the exception and not the norm. If you want to reach such a level, you will need to make extreme efforts to get people on board and then motivate them to actually do some work when they join the program, rather than dream about the money that they will supposedly be making. This will obviously demand extra efforts from your part.

The most successful people in the multi level marketing field are actually members of several different programs at the same time. But if you want something small, say for a part time income, you can join just one opportunity and produce results. But in that case, investigate the product THOROUGHLY! Make sure that it’s something solid which has long term (at least a few years) potential. You don’t want to join a fad (diet products are notorious for this) that will fizzle out in a few months, leaving you to build your business again completely from scratch.

Are MLM Opportunities a Good Way to Earn Money?

Are MLM Opportunities a Good Way to Earn Money?

One question that a lot of people who want to work from home ask is: are MLM opportunities a good way to earn some money on the internet, or are they just overhyped scams? There is no definite answer to this, as some people have built a good income from them, while others hate this form of marketing.

MLM, or multi level marketing, is involves independent distributors reselling products of another company. However, a large aspect of MLM is not simply the sale of products, but recruiting others to be part of the business opportunity. But there are a few issues with the industry that some people may not like. This doesn’t mean that the entire industry is a scam or that it is a bad business model. But there are some issues that you should be aware of before you join any such business opportunity. Here are some of the most common problems that you will face in a lot of MLM businesses.

  • Low quality, overpriced, or “fad” products

Ask yourself this: if the products are so great, how come they aren’t being sold through traditional e-commerce, or at retail stores? You don’t see Coca Cola or Apple running MLM programs now, do you? In a lot of cases, the majority of the money comes from recruiting new participants in the business opportunity. The products are simply there so that the whole thing would not be called a pyramid scheme.

A lot of the time, you will see products that are overpriced and can be found for much less than what you need to sell them for to make a profit. Or they are simply “fad” products, such as the latest hype in weight loss or beauty. Of course, it is possible to make money from a fad (think Acai Berry, merchants and affiliates made MILLIONS from it), but if your entire business is based on that, know that you are running a “temporary business” and not something that will be sustainable for years to come.

  • Reliance on recruiting friends and family into the business

While it is definitely possible to market MLM opportunities online, a lot of companies make people rely on people marketing their offers to friends and family members, telling you that they will be the easiest prospects.

But quite honestly, this is really not the case. Most of them will just not be interested in having a business and if they listen to your speeches or presentations, it is only out of politeness or because they don’t want to get into an argument with you if they say no. Now if you push this kind of marketing too far, you will soon be joining the NFL (no, not the National Football League… but rather the No Friends Left club) and will have people avoid talking to you. After all, if you invite someone for dinner, would you really like them to start handing out marketing materials to your family? Probably not.

Full Time Online Business: Part 4 – Your Own Product

Full Time Online Business: Part 4 – Your Own Product

Selling your own information product is something that is mentioned in many internet marketing courses. There are plenty of guides, some free, some others costing several thousands of dollars, which say that it is truly a way to succeed on the internet. Many marketers will ask themselves this important question: is all of this actually true, or is is actually just hype to get these guides to sell.

Well, the short answer is yes, you can make quite a lot of money by creating an info product and selling it on the internet. However, this is not the way to go when you are just starting your online business. The main reason behind this is that it will take a lot of time for you to create a successful product that sells well. In fact, this can take several months. You are thus much better off focusing on some other ways to make money online in the beginning and then moving on to product creation later on. So what do you need to succeed by creating an informational product and selling it online?

  • A good product

This should be something that fills a need and that answers a question that people have. While the “make money online” niche is extremely popular, it is quite saturated at this point. Look at some other successful products outside of this niche. There are plenty of guides that talk about converting your car to run on water, getting rid of acne, whitening your teeth, building a wind turbine or solar panel to power your home, etc.

  • A good sales page

The sales copy that you use must include all the necessary elements that will make the reader want to buy your product. As such, you will either need to study some copywriting techniques to create your own sales copy or hire the services of a professional copywriter. The latter option will not be cheap, however. It can cost you several thousands of dollars to have a sales copy professionally written. However it can make quite a difference in the amount of sales that your product will make.

  • Getting others to promote your product

Of course, it is possible to use various internet marketing strategies to get sales for your product. But wouldn’t it be better to have others do the work for you? In that case you would need to recruit some affiliates. However, this does not mean that you can simply put your product up on ClickBank and expect dozens of affiliates flocking to promote something they never even heard about. You will need to go around internet marketing forums, talking about your product and promoting it to affiliates who will be interested in bringing sales to it. While this is certainly quite possible to do, it will still demand a lot of effort on your part to get affiliates to become interested in it.

Some Ideas On What to Do Online – Creating Your Own Product

Some Ideas On What to Do Online – Creating Your Own Product

As you are learning to earn money online, it is important to find out about various money making methods that you can use. Even though you may not be planning to use a certain method right away, it is always a good thing to know about various ways to make cash. This is in case one of your previous money earners dries up, you would always have a backup strategy in place.

Creating your own product

If you’ve been into the online money making scene for a while, you have probably seen the names of various gurus come up, such as Frank Kern, Mike Filsaime, Jeff Walker and company. These people are without a doubt earning millions of dollars by selling something that a lot of people online are searching for: information.

Now, can you become as successful as them? Maybe, maybe not. But one thing that is true, it’s the fact that if you make significant efforts, you are likely to earn a decent amount of money by creating and selling your own informational products online. But first, don’t get sucked into all of the hype out there. Success in this industry doesn’t come overnight. Even the top names in internet marketing did not become rich the first time they have put something up for sale online.

The first thing that you would need is an idea for a product. Ask yourself, what are your areas of knowledge? And you don’t need to be a professional on the subject matter either. You simply need to have gained a level of knowledge on the subject matter that is above that of the average person. If you take a look at many of the info products out there today, they consist of little more than information that is either simply common sense or freely available online if one would spend a few hours searching for it. The info is simply neatly arranged and rewritten in a way to make it simpler to understand for the target audience.

You would also need a web site, payment system and sales page for your product. Notice those long sales letters, filled with underlined words, calls to action, bullet lists of how the product will help the customer, etc? You can easily find freely available or inexpensive templates for your sales page that will make it resemble that of the top gurus. Of course, the words on the sales page matter: they will basically say to the reader “You have a problem, and I have a solution for you.” The most professional sales pages are designed by professional copywriters who charge thousands of dollars for their services. At the beginning, you probably won’t be ready to put up such an investment on your first product. You should know, however, that there are freelancers out there who can write a decent sales copy and even customize your product’s complete web site for around $50 to $100.

Once everything is set up, now is the time to promote your product. There are various ways to do so, but one of the most effective one is to advertise by buying ad space on websites, blogs or forums that are related to your niche. For example, if you are selling a dog grooming guide, you could buy ad space on a dog related forum.

Generate Buzz For Your New Website

Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , ,

Generate Buzz For Your New Website

So you just launched a new website, and you want to generate some positive attention for it. Generating buzz or hype isn’t as hard as you might think. You just have to follow a few simple steps, and you’ll be on your way in no time.

Start off by using social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook to talk about your site. Don’t just talk about the site using your social networking accounts, but encourage your friends and family to talk about it on their own. In order to generate buzz, the positive attention your site is getting on social networks has to appear natural. If other users suspect that you’re just trying to generate hype for your site, then you will actually achieve the opposite effect of damaging your site’s reputation. Try to get a group of your friends and family together that can start spreading the word about your site for you. As they talk about it, their friends will go to your site. Some of those friends will talk about it too, and slowly, but surely, you’ll begin to build some buzz around your site.

Consider volunteering some of your services to another website. If, for example, you have launched a site about technology, consider doing a guest spot writing for another tech website. This will give you the chance to introduce yourself to another audience, and get them excited about your site.

Don’t underestimate the power of physical items. Get some T-shirts, pens, and buttons made up with your site’s information on them. Hand these items out generously, and give some to your friends and family to do the same with. As these items spread, so too will your site.

Give out your business card whenever you can. If you’re out to lunch, leave your business card on the table along with the tip. If you see a bulletin board at the grocery store, pin your business card to it. This might seem a little futile, but remember, everyone who sees your URL might visit it. Everyone that visits it might tell a friend.

It’s important to remember that, while these methods can help, the amount of buzz your site generates will be directly related to the content it holds. For example, if you run a plumbing supply website, don’t expect to generate a huge amount of buzz. Plumbing supplies are great when you need them, but on a day to day basis, they’re just not very exciting.  If your content is interesting, and you follow these steps, you’ll start to see buzz for your site in no time.
