Setting up a PPC program through a service like Google Adwords is a little tricky. In order to effectively run your ad campaign, you have to do a little keyword research first in order to ensure that you’re spending your money to advertise on the right search terms. Fortunately, there are a number of great tools available that can provide you with all the information you need to make sure you’re spending your advertising money wisely.

The Google Keyword Tool is the first tool you should spend some time with. Start by entering a word or phrase relevant to your website, and your advertising campaign. The keyword tool will show you a list of keywords related to your search, as well as how many searches each term gets in a month. Generally speaking, you want to try and advertise on search terms that get a good amount of attention in a month. If you’re having trouble picking keywords, you can also enter a website into the keyword tool, and it will show you a list of search terms relevant to that website. Try entering one of your competitors into the keyword tool, and see what terms they’re taking advantage of. Make a list of the ten or twenty keywords you feel best represent your site. That may sound like a lot, but don’t worry, you’re going to narrow it down a good bit before you’re done with your research.

Next, pop open Google Trends. If you don’t know where to find it, just search Google for Google Trends, and you’ll find it easily. This tool will show you whether or not a keyword is getting a consistent amount of searches. Some search terms only do well during certain times of year, and as such, those are terms you probably want to avoid. For example, the word “costume” gets searched heavily around Halloween, but not during the rest of the year. Advertising under costume related keywords at any other point in the year may not be a good idea. Cross any keywords off your list that don’t get consistent traffic all year long.

Now it’s time to see how much competition you have. Use a tool called Keyword Spy to see how many other people are bidding on the keywords you’re thinking about bidding on. If a keyword is already heavily saturated, you can cross it off of your list.

You should now be left with a handful of keywords that fit your needs. Pick the ones that you feel best represent your site, and set up your ad campaign accordingly. By doing a little research before diving into PPC advertising, you can spend your advertising budget effectively, and boost your traffic greatly.

Step 1 – Find a niche

Generally I just go to Clickbank and look at the top 5 products in each category – if they have a high gravity then they’re obviously selling well so I might choose one and base a site around a particular product. I also take a look at CBTrends and take a look at the top 100 most researched/requested products.

For instance if I chose Fat Loss 4 Idiots my niche site would be based around fat loss (fat loss as opposed to weight loss as I want to keep it as targeted as possible).

Step 2 – Keyword research

I used to use Free Keyword Suggestion Tool From Wordtracker but nowadays I prefer the Google Adwords keyword tool at https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal – both are good though.

Look for keywords that correspond to the product you’ve chosen.
E.g. if I chose the product ‘Reverse Phone Detective’ I could use keywords such as:

“reverse phone number look up” – according to the Google keyword tool that exact phrase was searched for 40,500 times in August. Our competition on Google is only 64,000 so this keyword should be easy to rank for.

I choose 10 – 15 long tail keywords that I can base my sites articles around.

Step 3 – Choosing a domain

I would choose a domain name with the keyword in it – for instance if reversephonenumberlookup.com (or .net) was available (it’s not) I could use that. 90% of the time I can rank on page 1 of Google for the phrase included in the domain name so it is important to choose carefully.

Step 4 – Create your site

I generally either get a free template from Open Source Web Design. and use NVU, or I use wordpress (I like the templates at WordPress Themes and WordPress Themes and create it like a html site (using a static page). I start by writing and adding 10-15 articles to the site – all of them based around a particular searched for keyword.

Next add in your affiliate program. One of your articles should be a good review of this product and I always have a short presell on the main site page as well.

Step 5 – Promote your site

The first thing I do is submit some articles – I usually start with about 10. I submit the majority to Ezinearticles and the rest I submit using Article Post Robot to the top 15-20 directories. Submitting GOOD articles to Ezinearticles will get you traffic and sales from the first week. Use appropriate anchor text and link to both the home page and internal pages.

The next thing I do is social bookmark the site with Social bookmarking service. Fast tagging and posting to all major social websites – SocialMarker.com

Depending on the niche I might also do some forum posting with a link to my site in my sig. I find topic related forums at The largest Message Boards and Forums on the web!

Step 6 – Using Web 2.0 sites

I build a Squidoo lens, a Hubpage and a wiki at Wikidot – Free Wiki Hosting to provide more backlinks (and some extra traffic) for my site. When selling my site I always include the Squidoo lens but I don’t think you can transfer a hubpage or wiki.

Step 7 – Site maintenance

I always monitor each site closely to see how traffic and earnings are progressing. If they’re not, I submit more articles to Ezinearticles, do more forum posting, blog commenting etc. However if you’ve chosen a niche with little optimized competition you shouldn’t have to do too much to rank your site well. I also keep my Squidoo lens updated as well, because a high-ranking lens with lots of good unique content will add value to the sale. Generally I might only spend 30 minutes a week on maintaining the site.

Step 8 – Sell your site

I only sell on Digitalpoint and Sitepoint – maybe I’m only limiting myself because I haven’t tried any others but they work for me. If I’ve had a steady income for 3 months in a row (or a steadily increasing income) then my site is ready to sell. Generally I get 6-10 times monthly income (a lot more for Adsense though), which may not seem like a lot, but because the site is still quite new it’s probably reasonable.

If you wanted to keep the site longer then you would probably earn more, but I like to sell my sites in between 4-6 months.

The whole setting up the site process should only take you a day or two at most – much less if you outsource. Plus you’ll get quicker every time you do it.

Although this is basically what I do written out in the simplest of steps, it’s still necessary to have some marketing skills – good article marketing and preselling being the main ones, plus of course the ability to create a simple website.

It actually isn’t that hard though – this is all information that you probably knew, it’s just a matter of putting it into practice. If instant cash is what you’re looking for this may not be the method for you, because although you’ll have earnings from your sites you won’t get the big sale payout for at least 4 months.

Just think though – if you built one site per week or more (and kept it up week after week), in a few months time you could be earning a 6 figure income from site flipping!

Step 1 – Find A Niche

I’ve personally found selling clickbank products to be very successful as alot of people like to buy digital products online. Have a search on clickbank for a product you would like to sell that is popular within the market place. Look to see their gravity rating, the percentage in refunds they have had, this is a good indicator to see if the product has been successful. Also check to see how good their sales page is also.

Step 2 Keyword Research

I like to use the free tool from Google – https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal to look for keywords related to my niche that i want to promote. Say for example you want to target the keyword ”loose weight fast” put that into the Google keyword tool and see what the competition is like. You may wish to use another keyword similar that has less competition.

Once you have found the keyword you would like to use, pick 10 -15 long tail keywords and start writing some articles with these keywords you have chosen.

Step 3 – Choosing a domain

When picking your domain its a good idea to have your main keyword within your domain as this will greatly improve your chances of being on page 1 of Google (e.g looseweightfast.com) if .com is taken the next best choices are either .net or .org anything else is no good.

Step 4 – Create your website

I would highly recommend setting your website using wordpress as these websites rank very very well in Google. Google seems to love wordpress because of its structure and how well they are optimised for search engines.

Add some keyword rich articles to your website with some reviews on the clickbank product you are promoting. If you can also make a video and upload it to youtube and embed this into your website. Google likes websites with videos on and also readers also like videos about the product they are buying so this will also help your conversions.

Also add a contact page, about me page, privacy page as these also improve your rankings, this is something that Google looks for.

Step 5 – Promote your website

Once you have finished your website you now need to start promoting your website. Submit around 10 articles to article directories like Ezinearticles with rich keyword content articles with anchor text links pointing back to your website. Submit your website to all the major social networking websites. You can use socialmarker.com for this.

You can also join forums related to your niche and write a number of posts with your anchor text link in your signature, this is a great way to drive traffic to your website and increases your serps. Also blog commenting on blogs similar to your niche is another good method.

Create a squido lens, hubpage and wiki page to provide more backlinks for your website.

Step 6 – Site maintenance

For the next few days monitor the site everyday, checking traffic, sales, average time a user stays on your site, which pages they are exiting from. Then you can make any adjustments changes or additions to improve. If its still slow after a couple of weeks i would start submitting more articles to ezine, more blog commenting on other blogs and forum posting to build up your backlinks.

Step 7 – Sell your website

After 3 – 6 months you are now ready to sell your website if it has steady traffic going to it, steady flow of sales every month. Great websites to sell your website are Digital Point or Flippa. Generally you can sell your website for 6-10 times your monthly income. So for example if your website is making on average $200 a month from clickbank and adsense you could sell for $2,000. Not bad for a weeks work. You can create a new site every week and leave it on autopilot just monitoring its stats and making adjustments here and there.

If you keep your website for longer say for over a year and kept working on building up the backlinks and adding content which increased your monthly sales then you will be able to sell it for even more money. It all depends how quickly you want to flip your website.
