Sensible Use of On Site Advertising

Putting ads on a website is definitely the best way to monetize it. Ads on websites can bring webmasters money through various business models, such as cost per click, cost per impression, selling an ad space for a fixed amount for a period of time, or running affiliate offers that pay a commission to the webmaster whenever a sale is made by the action of a website visitor that clicks a link on the publishing site.

Website ads can come in many formats. One of the most popular one is text ads, which are commonly associated with the Google AdSense service. These text ads neatly appear in a box on the site. One of their primary advantage is that they’re not obtrusive and don’t interfere with site navigation. However, there are many new types of ads that have become more popular recently.

One prime example are flash based ads, which pop out of their assigned space on the website to momentarily cover a portion of the site in order to catch the user’s attention. These ads sometimes also play sounds. While they are an effective method of advertising since they are an “in your face” kind of ad, there are many site visitors that don’t like them and consider them to be annoying. For this reason, webmasters should limit the use of such ads to only a few pages on their site. Another issue with these ads is that they take some time to load, which means that they could disrupt site navigation for a visitor that has a slow connection. Also, use of flash ads increases the chance of crashing the users browser, especially if they have many other tabs opened at the same time and are using a computer that isn’t that powerful.

Video ads that start playing automatically are also another kind of on site advertising that has gotten more popular recently. Generally, video ads bring more revenue to the webmaster, as their advertisers are willing to pay more for a view or click than with a simple banner or text ads. However, the use of video ads should also be limited for similar reasons. One of the first annoyances about them cited by web users is that they play audio without any interaction from the user. They also put more strain on the users browser, thus making the page “heavier” to load. Some advertisers have taken this into consideration and only show an introduction frame or loop for the video ad in the beginning, and will play the full video when the visitor mouses over the ad to see more.

As a webmaster, you must remember that besides making money from your website, your goal should also to provide your users with useful and entertaining content. Sites that are supported by ads which are very profitable get many of their profits from returning visitors. As such, you should ensure that your users always have a good experience when visiting your website, so covering half your page with ads is not really a good way to go.

Becoming a Web Hosting Reseller: Is It A Good Choice?

Becoming a Web Hosting Reseller: Is It A Good Choice?

When looking for hosting on the website of a major web host, you may have seen a “reseller” option and wondered what this was for. You may have even seen something like “You can make a ton of money by having your own webhosting company”. But is all of this really true? Can you really make money as a hosting reseller? If you were dreaming of having your own webhosting company, is this the answer?

Well, it is possible to make some money as a reseller. But there are some drawbacks to that too. Let’s take a look at some of the advantages and some of the drawbacks.

Advantages of becoming a reseller:

  • You will get server space, management tools and billing tools provided by the web host

This will allow you to effectively start your own web hosting business, without all the overhead that is normally involved, such as renting out space, buying servers, paying for the internet connection, etc. Since the web host provides you with all the tools to manage your operations, managing your customers accounts will also be easy.

  • Many webhosting providers that offer reseller accounts also provide you with marketing tools

To make things easier for you, many webhosts will give you website templates that allow you to build a great looking site for your new hosting company. Some of them also give you templates for marketing materials, such as banners, articles, etc. This can be very helpful when you are seeking to attract new customers to your business.

Some drawbacks:

  • You will be responsible for providing support

As the hosting reseller, customers will be asking you questions and reporting any issues that they have with their hosting. It will then be your responsibility to resolve these issues or forward them to the webhosts’s technical support department. While this may not be an issue if you have only a few customers, it can take up a lot of your time if you have hundreds of them.

  • You will face a lot of competition

If you have taken a look at the world of webhosting, you will see that it is an industry that is extremely competitive. Of course, there are around two dozen of the “big players” out there, the major webhosting companies like GoDaddy and HostGator. But there are thousands of other, smaller webhosting businesses, many of which are resellers. This means that you will have a hard time competing with all of them and will need to be very creative in order to attract enough customers to make being a reseller profitable.

An alternative to becoming a reseller

If you want to make money from the hosting business, there is another option open for you. You can become an affiliate of a known webhosting company and get paid commission for every new subscriber that you send to them. This is much easier than becoming a hosting reseller and can be just as profitable, if not more.

Profiting From Incentive Offers – Freebie Sites

There is a great amount of CPA offers that you can run and promote in various ways. While most marketers either embed these offers on an existing site or use various advertising methods to draw traffic directly to the offer itself (such as PPC, media buying, etc.), there is another way that you can make profits from a certain type of CPA offers.

Let’s face it, getting people to sign up for an offer that you are running is not easy. Even if it involves only filling out a few fields or downloading something without having to give a credit card number, the majority of people will simply balk from completing the offer. But what if there was a way to reward people for doing so? This is the basic concept behind incentive offers. You give people a reward for doing the offer.

Before get started, you need to be aware of a few things. Most CPA offers found on the networks today do NOT allow incentives. While you may think that you can do whatever you want with the users on your site, the merchants hat pay the networks to run their offer think a bit differently. If you give a user a reward for completing an offer, chances are they will do so solely out of interest for the reward and not for the offer itself. This means that the lead collected will have a lot less value for the merchant. And incentive sites are often targeted by cheaters. These people will stop at nothing in order to get free stuff and will often engage in fraudulent behavior such as creating multiple accounts and signing up for offers many times over, filling out offers with fabricated information or even going as far as using stolen payment information for orders that require a credit card.

But there are still plenty of offers that you can find which allow incentives. One of the most common way to profit from them is to build what is called a freebie site. Simply put, you reward your users by giving them something for free once they have completed the right amount of offers. This can be anything ranging from gift cards that can be used at online merchants to physical items such as MP3 players and video games. For freebies that are of high value, you can require that the user refer a few friends to the site that will also need to complete a minimum amount of offers in order for them to get credit.

How do you set up such a site? First you need to develop a plan and determine which offers you will run and which freebies you will give out. When starting, it is best to select a low-value item such as gift cards of around $20 – $25. Then calculate how many offers the user will need to complete in order to cover the value of the offer and allow a profit for you. You would then design your site and include a freebie site script which will automatically detect when a user completed an offer and keep track of your members for you.

Want To Earn A Bit Of Extra Cash Online?

Let’s face it, there are literally thousands of ways to earn money online. While a lot of us will want to make a decent amount every month by means such as CPA networks, affiliate programs, etc., what about someone who is just starting out and wants to build a bit of capital to spend on their online business. Or someone who just wants to earn a few dollars each day, without going complicated work such as setting up websites, advertising campaigns, signing up for affiliate networks, etc. Here are a few basic ways to earn money online. While some people have made a living out of these methods, they aren’t exactly things that will make you five figures each month. Just some extra cash.

Freelancing:

By far, one of the most popular methods of earning money online. You basically provide your services and skills to others, in exchange for payment. What you can do will largely depend on your skills: writing articles, making blog or forum posts, designing web sites, creating logos and graphics, etc. Many internet marketers, especially those who run many websites, often outsource certain tasks (like graphic design and article writing) in order to save time. Where do you find work? Here are some places to start:

Fiverr (www.fiverr.com). A simple freelancing site, where you post up small jobs, called gigs, that you are willing to do for $5. The jobs that people do on this site are varied, and include things such as writing articles, doing a video review of a product, transcribing audio, and many other things that you can easily do in a few minutes.

Amazon Mechanical Turk (www.mturk.com) Once again, you will be doing simple tasks in exchange for payment. However, the tasks on this site will likely be much shorter and more repetitive than on Fiverr and will include things such as: gathering information online, categorizing pictures, etc. The pay for each task accomplished is usually a few cents, but the tasks seldom take more than a few minutes to complete. While you probably won’t make much, some people have managed to make close to minimum wage on it.

There are of course some other freelancing sites online. These tend to be a bit more “formal” and require you to create a profile detailing your skills, experience, a portfolio of some samples of your work, etc. The way they work is similar to this: client posts project, workers place bids, client selects one or more workers to complete the task. While it may take some time for you to find projects to work on, you could earn a decent amount depending on what services you offer. Some examples of freelancing sites are Guru (www.guru.com), RentACoder (www.rentacoder.com) and oDesk (www.odesk.com). A good thing about freelancing sites in general, is that if you are reliable and produce good quality work, clients will often hire you for regular projects, which means that you would spend more time working and earning money, rather than scouring the internet for work to do.

Using Video to Promote Your Products and Blog

Video can be a great way to enhance your blog or product because it helps put a face or voice onto the voice that normally just shows through the text. Video can be a very engaging way to interact with your audience, and when done right, video can make or break a website.

Using effective and well designed video is extremely important. If you are going to be recording it via your webcam, make sure your background is uncluttered and that you proper lighting. I would suggest putting a table or desk lamp to the side of your monitor if that is the case, to make sure you are getting proper lighting on your face. It will make a world of difference.

Promote New Products
One use of video can be to promote new products you are launching. For example, you could create a video tour of a new product you are launching, you could show the user interface, some of the content, and give a brief overview of what the product does and how it will help people. This is an effective way to explain the goal of your product and to try and convert leery buyers who may be a bit skeptical at first.

Promote Your Website
Video can be used to promote your website as well. If you created a video every time you posted new content to your blog, you could include the video and the transcript of the video in one post. By posting it to YouTube, Vimeo, and other video sharing sites you can then try to capitalize on click throughs from the video to your blog or product page. It also creates a way for people who may not want to read the entire post to receive your content, for example while they are cleaning their apartment they could have your video on and still be benefiting from your expertise.

Teach Something
Using your videos to teach people sometime specific can be a great way to set yourself up as an expert on a certain subject. For example if you are a WordPress guru it might be beneficial for you to create 3-4 minute videos and post them to YouTube with a link back to your website where you do consulting. You can teach people very basic things such as installing WordPress, modifying themes, etc. You then upsell them when they want to find an expert on WordPress, they think of your videos and your offering. It is a great way to establish credibility with potential clients.

When to Hire a Contractor

When to Hire a Contractor

One of the most overlooked aspects of working online is hiring a contractor.

Let’s face it, not everyone can do everything online, and if they think they can they are joking themselves or they are taking way to much time to get work done because they are having to learn/struggle with every single aspect of web design, article writing, SEO, or some other area that is outside their expertise and they are spending way to much time on tasks that they are having to learn as they go or just take them a long time because of inexperience.

My niche is article writing. I was never found of writing in school, but I learned very quickly online that I was meant for it. I can write decently fast, not 90 words per minute, but I am able to get my ideas down on the “paper” as fast as I can think of them. I learned that when writing about subjects I enjoy I can write almost all day about them, hence why I write only on my niches I like to work on.

It could be different for you, maybe you love SEO, and playing the search engine game. That’s fine, it’s great even. Or maybe you are an awesome designer and just love creating useful art for websites, etc.

Whatever you do almost can be utilized online, however trying to learn everything else can be a mistake.

If you are a great web designer, why not hire a great copywriter to help you sell your services to potential clients instead of struggling to create website content to showcase your work?

If you are an SEO expert throw up a WordPress blog and hire a designer to create you a temple to showcase your SEO skills.

For me, as an article writer I am a bit SEO (but not all the way) with my keyword density, but I could hire both an SEO expert to get my on page SEO down and a designer to create my website for which I write.

Instead of trying to do things halfway, it is a lot easier and will save you a lot of time by simply hiring an outsourcer to do the work for you. Don’t be afraid to spend a little bit of money, because if the contractor is worth their weight, they will provide you with returns long after the work is completed.
