Improving Your Customer Service With Self Serve Features

If you have a website that sells something online, whether it’s a product or service, then making money by selling your items is the main objective of your site. However, if you want to remain competitive in your niche and see long term growth, then providing good support for your customers and potential customers is important for your online business, just like it would be in any other type of business.

Unfortunately, this is something that is often overlooked by many online business operators, especially those that provide services such as web hosting resellers. Here are some great tips which will help you provide a very good customer service experience for your website visitors:

  • Provide good information on your website

The issue with contacts to a website‘s service staff is that many of these contacts could have been avoided if the necessary information was included on the site and featured in a prominent way. Therefore, you should provide clear information about how your products work, as well as help files about how to use them if this would be relevant to your products. Creating video tutorials on how to accomplish certain things with your products would also be a great idea. On your contact page, you should include a link to the relevant help section of your website, which will encourage your customers and potential buyers alike to first check out the information to see if the answer to their question can actually be found there before they contact you.

  • Offer good self service features

This is a move that has been well understood by many large businesses operating in plenty of different industries everywhere. It’s less costly in terms of money and resources to let your customers do certain transactions and see some information by themselves rather than having them contact you. If you run an e-commerce site that ships products, for example, you could include a section on your site that keeps track of your customers previous orders. You can then update it with shipping and tracking information, which would cut down on the “when will my order get there” type of inquiries. This also applies to service based sites as well. Try to implement features that would let your customers make their own changes to their account, such as changing their service plans, adding a new subscription under their main account, changing their billing information, canceling or suspending a service they have with you, etc. By doing all of this, you will reduce contacts to your customer service, sometimes even in a significant way.

  • Send a follow up/confirmation email on every new order

With the email, provide the relevant information, such as order number, tracking number for any shipments, as well as a link to the help section or the account management section of your website. Doing so will encourage your customers to use them to see if they can find the answer to any question they have there before they get into contact with you.

Building a Home Page that Will Convert: Part 2

Building a Home Page that Will Convert: Part 2

Previously, we’ve seen a few things that you can do to help your home page convert better. Implementing these can have excellent results as far as helping the conversion rates on your website. Here are some more things to consider when you want to increase the conversions that your home page will bring you.

Add Social Media Buttons

Even though users may not buy something from you right away, they might still be interested in your business and what it offers. For this reason, adding social media buttons that let your users follow you on popular social networking sites like Facebook and Google + is an excellent way to make them remember your website for the future, even though they didn’t get anything from it today. Of course, adding social media buttons on your product pages is also important, especially if you are selling items directly from your website.

Add a Bookmark Button

Again, adding a bookmark button to your site serves a similar purpose to what social media buttons do: they help users remember your business and makes them more likely to go back to your website when they’re ready to buy. Encourage users to bookmark your site as a way to keep in touch so they can check your site out later for any future products or promotions. Otherwise, you may have users who may have bought something from your site, but couldn’t remember what it was and they ended up on a competitors website instead when they were searching for yours.

Make Your Contact/Help Information Prominent

Sometimes a user would like more information about your business or your products before they make an order. This is why you should always include some FAQ or Help pages on your site, especially if you are running an e-commerce website. In any case, having a “contact us” button featured prominently on your home page is a great way to encourage people to contact you if they have a question. Make it open a pop up with a contact form where the user can fill in their name, email and message to you, so that you can get back to them right away if they have something to ask.

Let Users Create Content

Websites that have user generated content tend to do quite well. For examples of this, check out many travel websites, which dedicate an entire section of their website to user reviews of travel products, as well as having a discussion forum available where different people can discuss travel related topic. Some of the biggest e-commerce sites like Amazon also do it by letting users post ratings and reviews of products they’ve bought from the site. User generated content gets you free original content on your site, thus helping with SEO. It also helps improve the user experience, as your users will feel that they have a voice and can interact with your site better.

Promoting Your New Web Store – Part 2

Promoting Your New Web Store – Part 2

Previously, we have seen some good approaches to promoting your new web store. As an online entrepreneur, your next question would probably be: how do I make this all happen? Well, the concept of local promotion is not that difficult at all. It all starts with you, the owner. You would first promote to your friends and other people you know closely, then the promotion would spread to their friends, and then finally you would promote to the public in your area. After this, you can start promoting regionally, nationally and then globally.

  • Leveraging the Power of Social Media

If you are like billions of people around the world, then you probably have an account on Facebook and maybe one on Twitter. Here, you would start by creating a social media page on Facebook and Twitter for your website. You would then contact your friends by posting your business Facebook page on their wall. It is also possible to create a graphic ad featuring your website, upload it to your personal account and then tag your friends in the photo. Some of your friends may Like your page, or even make a purchase on your site if they need something that you are selling. Since your post will be on their wall, it is possible that their friends will see it and Like it too. The goal here is to create a viral effect that will spread to people.

  • Don’t Forget “Personal” Marketing

Even though we live in a world where many of our communications take place online and ads are often seen as impersonal and targeting a wide audience, you can also market your website to people that you know and that you think may benefit from your products. It would be a good idea to print out some business cards with your website and info about your business. These can be ordered cheaply online, or you can just print them yourself with business card paper that you can find for $1 at the Discount Dollar store and a cheap ink jet printer. Pass these around to your friends and people that you know. If you know of someone that would especially benefit from the products that you are selling, then promote your site to them in priority. For example, if you sell smart phones online and you have a friend who just accidentally dropped their iPhone in the toilet, then now would be a good time to market your products to them. If you maintain the stock yourself as opposed to drop shipping, you could just give them the item in person for a cash sale, saving them time on shipping the item and also saving you on shipping costs as well as on payment processor fees.

But running an e-commerce site isn’t like running some sleazy MLM program, is it? So you don’t have to promote only to the people you directly know. There are also some great local marketing methods that you can employ as well, which we will see tomorrow.

How to Keep Your Google Adwords Account Safe: Part 2

How to Keep Your Google Adwords Account Safe: Part 2

Previously, we’ve seen some ways to keep your Google Adwords account from being banned. However, there are some other things that you should be aware of when using Adwords. I also have two more tips for you to avoid getting your account banned:

  • Don’t run banned campaigns again

Sometimes, instead of banning you, Google will simply disable a campaign that doesn’t play by their rules. This could appear in two different ways. Either Google will actually send you an email saying that your campaign doesn’t play by the rules and has been stopped, or they will simply “ghost” it, meaning that your ads will no longer be displaying, no matter what your bid amount is. If your campaign is stopped and you don’t know why, the best course of action is to contact Google Adwords Support. Sometimes you will get an explanation of what’s wrong with it, while some other times you will just get a generic “this is against the rules… you figure out which one” type of email. What NOT to do, would be to simply take down the campaign, get a new domain, change a few ads and keywords and start again. If you haven’t figured out what’s wrong with the campaign and Google is of no help, then try asking for some explanations on a webmaster or internet marketing forum. Many people there use Adwords and could help you. It could be something simple that you didn’t think of, such as your landing page not complying by the rules (i.e. a mobile offer that doesn’t clearly show the charges per SMS, etc) or simply a product that Google doesn’t like (i.e. many re bill offers).

  • Don’t create a new account if you are banned

If you get banned from Adwords, then chances are you are banned for life. That’s right, no more Adwords for you, ever. There are some people who think that they are sneaky and will try to sign back up again, often using the same domains, ads and of course the same name and credit card. That won’t work. Even if it does, it is usually a matter of hours before you get caught and booted again. When you are banned, you are not able to create a new account with the same name, credit card, home address and IP address again. So trying to be sneaky will simply lead you nowhere fast.

But is it possible to use Google Adwords again after you got banned? Oh, come on, you may be saying, it’s not like I was selling crack on my website or something. Well there are a few ways to get back on board with Adwords, however I want to warn you that it is not as easy as you could think it is. Tomorrow we will be taking a closer look at some ways to use Google Adwords again if your account was perma banned.

How to Do SEO for Local Businesses

How to Do SEO for Local Businesses

If you own a local small business, then you are probably looking for ways to increase your business visibility in the online world. Well, there are various ways that this can be accomplished. For example, you can use social media or pay per click ad solutions. But let’s not forget that SEO is important too. However, many small business owners neglect to pay any attention to SEO, because they believe that there is way too much competition and that they will not be able to advance anywhere in the rankings.

But recently, Google has made some changes to the way search results are ranked when it comes to local keyword. The search engine uses geo location to determine the area where the user is located in and then displays search results which are relevant both to the user’s area and the keywords they were looking for.

How do you take advantage of this recent change to go up in the rankings? It is actually relatively easy, there are just a few things to do:

First, optimize your pages for both your main keyword and the area in which you do business. So for example if your main keyword is “plumbing” and you do business in Miami, then you would optimize your pages for the keywords “plumbing Miami” and “Miami plumbing”. Also, be sure that every one of your pages has a reference to your location on it. This can be easily done simply by putting your address and phone number in the footer of every page. Not only does this allow customers to see your contact info on each page, but will also let Google determine your location more easily.

If your business is not listed on Google Maps, then you should make sure that it is. Simply request a listing and it will appear in the results in the next few weeks. Local business listings appear on Google Maps together with web sites, so it will make it very easy for your customers to find you.

To optimize your website for “local SEO”, it is also a good idea to list your business in as many online business directories as possible. Not only will this potentially give you traffic coming from the directory itself, but it will also give you some very valuable backlinks as well. Backlinks that are coming from other sites that are related to your area, such as local business associations, chambers of commerce, etc. are also very helpful in this scenario.

While doing SEO may seem complicated, in reality it is not. You just need to have the proper information and take time to do the right actions. Remember that SEO is not meant to replace, but rather to work together with other types of online advertising that your business uses, so you can still keep using Adwords or social media ads in addition to deploying efforts to get your site to rise through the rankings.
