Holiday Selling Tips for Affiliates – Part 2

So you’re an affiliate and are promoting products that may be of interest to shoppers during Black Friday and Cyber Monday. If you do your campaigns the right way, you definitely stand to make some money from this popular holiday shopping event, as millions of shoppers go online to buy what they want instead of going to retail stores. Here are some final tips to help you run your affiliate campaigns:

Price is Important but So is Value

It is not enough for products to have a good price, they must also be valuable in the eyes of many shoppers. For this reason, you should try to put an emphasis on promoting online retailers that are known brand names and also emphasize products made by manufacturers which have a good reputation for quality. While it’s true that budget conscious customers may want to get the lowest price possible on a product that they want and won’t care whether it’s a “no name” brand, the majority of shoppers will be more comfortable with brands that they’ve seen before.

Know at What Times People Shop

Remember that online shoppers are human too and many of them will be working on Cyber Monday. Previous statistics show that traffic increases begin in the morning around 7 AM, then taper off at around 9 AM. Things start to pick up again after 5 PM when people return from work. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should only be running your ads and promotions during these times. After all, there are many people who can do their shopping from work or who won’t be working on Cyber Monday. However, you should keep in mind that traffic will be the heaviest during this period and you should therefore take action in order to profit from it.

Black Friday Isn’t Just one Day

If you’ve been watching some online shopping sites, you will find that many online retailers now begin their Black Friday promotions at the start of November, then make even bigger promotions and discounts on Black Friday itself. Bigger discounts for customers and better payouts for affiliates are common during that 24 hour period. Again, if you want to maximize your profits, don’t focus exclusively on that 24 hour time frame. Shoppers will begin searching for items to buy before that day.

Ensure Backup Plans are In Place

In internet marketing, things can sometimes go wrong. Retailers may change promotions, products or affiliate deals for whatever reason. Affiliate networks, merchant websites or tracking systems could run into problems due to technical failures or deliberate sabotage by DDOS attacks. Same goes for advertising services. While you may think you have a good strategy in place, don’t put all your eggs in the same basket. You should have preferred offers to promote, as well as preferred advertising channels, but you should always have a backup plan in place. This would mean that if something goes wrong, you can still make money, even if it’s not as much as you may have originally planned.

Getting Your Site Ready For Black Friday

Getting Your Site Ready For Black Friday

For online merchants and affiliate marketers, the biggest online shopping weekend this year is getting closer and closer. Those who sell or promote products online are all getting ready for Black Friday and Cyber Monday and according to some reports, the online shopping event is expected to be even bigger this year. It is no secret that online sales are growing year after year, but this year is likely to be even more profitable for many. People everywhere are finding out that they can get better deals online, and also they don’t need to stand in line for hours to get what they want.

Do you want your Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotions to be as successful as possible? Then there are a few tips that you should take into consideration. While you should already have figured out the bulk of your marketing strategy for this year by now, there is still time to make some adjustments and modifications to your campaigns so as to ensure maximum success.

Make Sure Your Sites are Ready

Before you go any further, you should ensure that everything on your website works properly and that it will be able to handle the increased traffic that comes with this holiday shopping event. It is true that those who go to physical retail stores are often willing to put up with long lineups and spend quite some time searching for the products they want in store, but this isn’t necessarily true for online shoppers. If your page doesn’t load properly or is having problems, then this could and probably will, result in a lot of lost sales for you. As we’ve stated many times before in articles related to e-commerce, unless your site offers an extremely rare or unique product that is practically impossible to find anywhere else, your shoppers will not have the patience needed to keep trying to make their purchase again and again while your site is having problems. They will probably go somewhere else and as there is no shortage of sites that offer deals and promotions for Black Friday, chances are they will find what they originally came from and won’t bother to come back to you.

The first thing to do is to test your site thoroughly to ensure that every link and every part of it works properly. Ensure you have the right type of hosting for the job. Running an e-commerce platform on a shared hosting account might work if you have just 4 or 5 people browsing your site at the same time, but if you have a few dozen, this will rapidly exceed the capacities of such a small hosting plan. If you haven’t already, invest in the proper VPS or dedicated hosting.

Also, be alert and monitor your site during the shopping period. This will allow you to rapidly detect any anomalies and correct the problem before it gets bigger. You want everything working at 100% efficiency here, so it’s important to keep an eye on things.

How to Prevent Click Fraud

How to Prevent Click Fraud

Dealing with click fraud is nothing new. In fact, it has been around in some form ever since pay per click advertising had appeared online in the 1990s. While it is something that is commonly associated with PCs, the fact is that even mobile campaigns are increasingly being targeted in click fraud schemes. But there are things that you, as an advertiser, can do in order to keep from wasting your advertising dollars on fraudulent traffic. Here are some of them:

  • Start paying attention to your statistics

Check where your traffic is coming from, when it is coming to your site and how many of these clicks result in conversions. You should also explore the activity of the users on your site, such as the amount of pages that they visit, or the length of time they spend on your website. One of the reasons why click fraud flourishes is the fact that advertisers often don’t pay too much attention to their campaigns.

  • Recognize the signs of click fraud

Fraudulent clicks can be generated in two ways. First, there is the simple server side fraud, where a publisher, or advertising network, is manipulating server data to bill you for clicks that simply never went to your website. To protect yourself from this, you will need to compare the amount of clicks that you’ve received on your website, as well as the number of clicks reported on the advertising network’s statistics. It is normal that there might be a bit of a difference in the sets of numbers, but if you start seeing a noticeable discrepancy between the number of clicks you see on your server stats and the number reported by publishers, there is a chance that something is going wrong. Either their tracking system is having problems or they are doing something sketchy. This type of fraud is rare on larger publishers and advertising networks, as it is unlikely that they would want to ruin their reputation by engaging in fraudulent behavior. But on the other hand, the smaller players, especially those based in foreign countries where enforcement of internet crime is either very lax or nonexistent, may not really give too much attention to their reputation.

There is also fraud that is more complex than just manipulating the numbers on server data. It often comes as the result of fraudsters using bots and other unauthorized means to generate ad clicks that didn’t come from a real user. While it may seem to be quite a challenge to detect, it actually isn’t that complex. Tomorrow we will present you with some more ideas on how you can spot this kind of fraud and what actions you can take to prevent it from causing potentially serious losses for your business. Remember, when it comes to online marketing, the more knowledge you have, the better prepared you will be to face many of the challenges and potential problems involved with this industry.

Consumers Increasingly Using Multiple Devices

Consumers Increasingly Using Multiple Devices

There has been some talk in the marketing world about how to adapt campaigns to multiscreen users. First, it’s important to know what the term “multiscreen” actually means in this context. It doesn’t really apply to users who use more than one monitor with their PC, which is a practice that’s common in some businesses like network operations control and stock trading, but usually quite rare for personal use. Rather, it refers to users who perform a certain task using multiple internet enabled devices.

For example, a user would see an ad for a certain product while browsing the web on their smartphone. Then, they would continue shopping in front of a regular PC and maybe finish it on a tablet.

But how common is the practice? A study that was published last week by Google and Ipsos gives some details on this. It reveals that 90% of consumers will move in a sequential way between screens during the same day. Usually, they would start on a smartphone, move to a PC and then go on to a tablet.

An example of sequential usage would be someone who uses their smartphone on their way to work in order to check their email and social media accounts, uses a regular PC to browse the web while at work and then uses a tablet to play games when they get back home.

But simultaneous screen usage also exists and is rapidly becoming very common. In the majority of cases, a PC or web enabled TV would be the main screen, while the smartphone will be the second one. A few examples of this include: a user who is day trading stocks on his PC has his trading platform open on it, but has his email and social media open on his smartphone. This allows him to easily monitor the markets on the PC while being alerted on his smartphone if he gets a new message. He’s also less likely to get distracted for too long, as he doesn’t have any other tabs opened on his browser on the PC.

Another type of simultaneous usage that is increasingly becoming common is someone who is watching TV, but has their smartphone with them. If he sees an interesting ad that has a website given, he can browse to that site on his phone and check out the product being advertised. Or, he could research something about the show that he’s currently watching.

TV advertisers are now paying more and more attention to this phenomenon. In fact, many of them are now including mobile friendly websites in their ads, which will allow someone on a smartphone to get more information about the product being advertised and even conveniently make a purchase.

Many advertisers that run TV campaigns are now also mirroring these campaigns on mobile channels, in order for the viewers of the TV ads to recognize the ads more easily.

Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing

Common Mistakes in Affiliate Marketing

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, you should know that there are some mistakes made by many newcomers to this industry that you should avoid if you want to build a business that is profitable both in the short term and in the long term. Here are some of the most common mistakes done by newcomers to affiliate marketing and how you can easily avoid them:

Joining Every Affiliate Program Under the Sun

The experts always talk about how building multiple streams of income is important for success in affiliate marketing and with business in general. They show you how they’re part of dozens of affiliate programs and make money from them. But should you do the same? Not right from the start. Exploring various earning opportunities is definitely great, but when you’re just starting out, you should rather focus on a few programs and not overload yourself. This will make it far more complicated to find the right offers to promote, as you will have way too many to choose from. You will also get plenty of promotional emails from affiliate networks and managers urging you to run their campaigns, but you simply won’t be able to handle all of this at the same time when building your business.

Not Testing the Links and Merchant’s Page

If you make a mistake when copying the affiliate link over to your landing pages, this could be quite costly, as it will probably mean that any sales that you make won’t be tracked and so you won’t get paid for them. You should test your links to ensure that they work correctly. Also, you should check whether the clicks you make register correctly in your affiliate account, though bear in mind that there could be a delay between 15 minutes and a few hours before they appear. You should also see that the merchant’s site is loading correctly and not experiencing any technical problems at the moment. Obviously, sending traffic to a site that doesn’t work is pretty pointless as you will be left wondering why you haven’t made any money from your visitors.

Not Tracking Properly

Chances are, you will be promoting your affiliate offers through different channels. If you want to increase your chances of success, then you need to set up a tracking solution that will allow you to know how many clicks and sales came from which of your websites or advertising channels. This will be very helpful when you want to optimize your campaigns, as you will know which methods that you’ve used in promoting the offers worked and which ones didn’t really do anything. Many affiliate programs will allow you to generate different link codes for the same offer, allowing you to track your clicks more easily. There are also simple scripts that you can integrate into the back end of your website that will let you know exactly where your conversions came from, such as the keywords used, which ad was clicked by the buyer, etc. Any serious affiliate marketer maintains detailed statistics and has a good tracking solution set up.

Email Marketing Changing – But It Still Works

Email Marketing Changing – But It Still Works

The role of email marketing in the internet marketing world is a subject that has been up to some debate in the last few years. Every now and then, you are bound to see reports that claim that email marketing is “dead” or that it’s usefulness is going to be significantly reduced in the nest few months. But as of now, none of these scenarios have truly manifested themselves, and it looks unlikely that it will happen any time soon.

Those who advanced the theory that email marketing is going to lose its efficiency soon say that more and more users are using the social networking channel and are paying less attention to commercial email messages. But this is something that affects mainly the younger users and even then there are some very good ways around the problem, which will let you capture your subscribers attention a whole lot better.

It is true that people are increasingly using social networks to communicate with personal contacts. If you ask the average internet user how many non business related emails they’ve sent during the last year, the number would be quite low and in many cases it would simply be zero. When they use email, it is either for work related reasons, or to communicate with commercial entities. This is often the case when they check up on an order status, or check their inbox for a validation link to a website that they’ve signed up for.

But in general, users aren’t losing interest in promotional messages sent by email, as long as the email marketing campaign has been well done. Marketers need to check up on their efforts more often to see if what they’re doing is working and optimize their campaigns when necessary.

One of the key elements of a successful email marketing campaign, which has been recently discussed in various online news reports, is proper segmentation. Sending the same email message to everyone on your list may work if you have a really small business that only has a dozen or so subscribers on its list. But if you have thousands of them, then it’s not the brightest idea.

Content of email messages needs to be relevant to the user and geared towards them. Marketers need to get an understanding of who their email subscribers are and what differences exist between them. For example, some of these subscribers may be frequent visitors to their site and have repeatedly bought products and services from them. Others may just have signed up for the newsletter, but haven’t bought anything from the company yet. For the first group, simply presenting information on new products may be enough. But the second group would need a bit more convincing if a marketer hopes to turn some into paying clients.

No matter what is said about it, one fact still remains strong. Properly done email marketing results in very good click through and conversion rates. And for now, it just isn’t going anywhere for a while.

Getting the Best Deals Possible on Your Online Ads

Getting the Best Deals Possible on Your Online Ads

Now that you know some ways that you can use to better manage your online advertising budget and keep from wasting money, here are some more methods that you can use to increase your savings even more.

  • Take advantage of coupons and vouchers

Many online ad platforms, such as Google Adwords, Facebook Ads and many other smaller ad networks offer discount codes and vouchers which give you a certain amount of advertising credit for free. In most cases, all that you would need to do is to register for the service and put in your payment information. Sometimes, you will need to deposit a small amount, such as $10 or $20 in your account and the value of the voucher will be then added to it. By taking advantage of these offers you are essentially getting free advertising that you would normally have to pay for. The offers and their value often change, so the best way for you to find available coupon codes would be to simply search for them on Google. Very often you will find the current ones posted on many sites, or instructions on how you can get them.

  • Use some of the smaller ad networks

While there are some popular ad networks such as Google Adwords, Bing and Facebook Ads, those who are interested in running pay per click or cost per impression ads will find that there are plenty of other networks out there that can provide you with good quality traffic at lower costs. Some of these could be specific to certain geographical areas or niches. To find them, you can simply do a search on Google, or visit some discussion forums related to online marketing. This will give you some additional insight from members about which companies they are using and whether they would recommend them based on the results that they got. However, be careful before spending too much money with a previously unknown company. It is better to try them out with smaller campaigns to see if the traffic is giving you the results that you were expecting and if you didn’t have any problems with their service.

  • Work out deals with other webmasters

Rather than going through an ad network, you can try working out deals with other webmasters that have sites which are related to your niche, but aren’t direct competitors. This may allow you to get some good advertising opportunities at a lower cost. It may not be so easy to achieve when you’re just starting out, but it’s definitely possible. To find these opportunities, all that you have to do is to network. Participate in online marketing discussions, as well as forums that are related to your niche. This will allow you to meet some other webmasters and you may be able to get some advertising opportunities, as well as any other services that your business might need in the future.

Using PPC For Small Business

Using PPC For Small Business

If you take a look at recent online marketing news, you will see that using pay per click advertising is growing online. In that past few years, this use has grown steadily. One of the reasons behind this growth is the fact that many small businesses are now using PPC advertising to get more visitors to their websites and customers to buy their products. If you want to get started as a small business user, then here are some tips that you can use to launch your first successful campaigns:

Take Advantage of Free Offers

Many PPC advertising service providers give free ad credit to members who join. You can find these free offers simply by looking online. Some web hosts also offer free advertising credit to clients that use their services. For example, you can get a $100 Google Adwords credit from many web hosting providers. Making use of these credits will allow you to start advertising at no cost on various platforms and see which ones will be the most suitable for your business and bring you the best quality traffic.

Don’t Forget to Target Your Ads

This is one of the most important aspects of PPC advertising: geo targeting, which means only serving your ads to web users that are in a certain defined geographic region. There are several uses of this: obviously, if you have a local business that only serves a certain area, you will want to limit your clicks to come from that area. Anything else will simply be a waste of money. Even if you do business globally, you may want to limit the countries that you target for your advertising, mainly due to the fact that there’s a much higher amount of fraud and poor quality traffic coming from certain countries.

Some PPC services also allow you to choose specific sites or groups of sites that your ad will appear on. They also have demographic targeting, meaning you can make your ads appear on sites that will be mostly visited by the demographics that are the most likely to purchase something from your business, thus making your traffic more useful for you.

Use Keywords Wisely

If you advertise on search services, like Google or Bing, then keywords for PPC are as important as for SEO. Even more so, as you will be paying for each click. Be sure to do your keyword research in thoroughly before and carefully select the keywords you will want to target. Avoid keywords that will be too broad, as they will result in getting traffic from people who may not necessarily be looking for what you’re offering. If your business sells clothes and accessories, instead of targeting general keywords like “fashion”, you may want to target more specific ones like “Diesel jeans” or “discount handbags”, etc. Basically, you need to think as one of your customers and target keywords that they would be most likely to search for.

Tips for Running CPA Offers on Craigslist: Part 3

Tips for Running CPA Offers on Craigslist: Part 3

Previously we’ve seen some ways to get your ads on classified ad sites to stay there and also to make a maximum amount of money while minimizing problems. Here are some final tips on how you can run successful affiliate campaigns by using classified ad sites:

  • Look at the other ads

When you want to put ads on Craigslist or any other classified ads site, the first thing that you would need to do is to take a look for yourself about how all the other ads in the section look like. Look at the titles, the formatting as well as the wording used in the ads. Do people post pictures? Do they post contact information in the ad? What words or expressions are used more often? These are all things that will help your ad look normal and make it less likely to be flagged or reported as spam. Also, you should obviously avoid making any outrageous claims in your ad to draw attention to it such as “Get a free house!” or things like that. If you do, it would probably be flagged as spam very quickly.

  • Use a local IP

Classified ads sites such as Craiglist and Backpage are mainly designed for local people to post local offers. So if you post an ad in a city that is not yours, you will need to use an IP address that is located in the area that you are targeting. You might not need this for all the classified ads sites, however Craigslist is known to be very strict regarding this and your ads in many categories will not appear if the IP address that you are posting from is not local to the area. To solve this problem, there are various workarounds. You could use a proxy, or a VPN service that will give you an IP address in the area where you are intending to post your ad.

  • Don’t mislead people or make false promises

Selling something from a CPA offer is one thing. However, deliberately misleading people by making false promises is another. Examples of this would include: promising someone a job if they fill out a survey, telling someone they are approved for a mortgage if they get a free credit report from your offer, etc. With some creativity, there are quite a few ways that you can promote CPA offers on classified ads sites without promising people things that don’t exist.

  • Check the rules for the offer you are promoting

Many affiliate networks recognize that classified ads sites are an important source of traffic and are used by thousands of marketers. However, some may have specific rules as to what kind of ads can be posted, as well as the sites they can be posted on. On some offers, classified ad traffic may be banned altogether, while on some you are not allowed to direct link to the offer itself. In any case, make sure you check the terms of every offer you want to promote before starting a campaign.

Tips for Running CPA Offers on Craigslist: Part 1

Even though it may have gotten more difficult in recent times, it is still possible to use Craigslist (and other classified ads sites) to promote some CPA offers, and there are still many merchants and networks which allow this kind of promotion. While these tips work for Craigslist, they will obviously be good for any other similar classified ads site out there.

However, many people report having problems, such as getting their ads flagged within minutes, or having their ads not appearing. Here are some tips that will help you get the most out of classified ads sites when used with CPA campaigns.

  • Don’t direct link to a CPA offer

While this may seem pretty obvious, a lot of new marketers seem oblivious to the fact that if you put an affiliate link directly into your ad, you will get flagged down rapidly, or your ad will not appear at all. You basically have two ways that you can use to direct traffic from a classified ads site to an affiliate or CPA offer. Either you build your own landing page and register a domain for it, or you have people email you and then reply to them by email. The approach that you will use will vary depending on what you are promoting, but the second option seems to be the most popular and effective for the majority of CPA offers.

  • Don’t use an autoresponder

An autoresponder is an email feature which automatically sends a reply with a pre-formatted message to anyone who sends you an email. Autoresponders have their value and are in fact extremely useful for some types of marketing. However, for classified ads, they are not a tool that you can use. Whenever someone gets an automated response to an email that they’ve sent, it automatically shows that something “spammy” is going on. Therefore, you are highly likely to get your ad flagged as spam very quickly if you use an autoresponder. I know that replying to emails personally takes time, but this is something that needs to be done if you want to have success. The task could be outsourced very cheaply as well. If you have to use an autoresponder (not recommended and we will get into more reasons later on) at least use one which is on a delay of a few hours and does not reply to emails automatically as soon as they are received.

  • Be creative in your ads

There are certain words such as “make money online” which will get your ad flagged right away. Furthermore, avoid copy pasting ads that you saw in an e-book or in a forum post that details some money making method for Craigslist. These have a high tendency to get flagged right away, since chances are there are many other people who have used them before you. Therefore, the bottom line here is: the ad that you post needs to be creative.

Getting Back on Adwords After a Ban

Getting Back on Adwords After a Ban

Previously, we’ve talked about how to keep your Adwords account from getting banned. But what if it’s now too late and your account has already been given the boot by Google. Is it possible to ever use Adwords again? Yes, however there are a few things that you need to make this happen.

New domain names.

If your account was banned, chances are that some or all of the domains that you have used are blacklisted as well. You will need new domain names for all of the campaigns that you will be promoting. It is also a good idea to use Whois privacy on your new domain names, so that Google will not be able to determine who owns them.

New IP address

If you get banned, chances are that Google will ban your IP address too. If you have a dynamic IP, simply switching your IP should do the trick. Or you could instead use a VPN service to get your own private IP that you have not used for Adwords before.

New address and phone number

Your home address and phone number are blacklisted when you get banned from Adwords. This means that you need to get new ones. Well, you don’t have to move or anything. You just need to use a different address. You can use one of a friend or relative, as long as it is OK with them. Or, just use a mail forwarding service or a place that rents mail boxes. These services are used by plenty of online entrepreneurs who want to keep their business information separate from their personal one. When signing up for websites, many people will use a rented mail box rather than their address, out of privacy concerns and also to prevent receiving 1001 pieces of junk mail and solicitations every month.

For the phone number, it is much easier. You can get a prepaid cell phone SIM card for a few dollars and then just top it up with $10 or so of phone credit every month. Or use one of the internet phone services, such as Skype In. If you look around online, you will also find a few services that can give you a very cheap ($4 or so a month) or free VOIP phone number that you can use to receive calls.

A new credit card

You will need to use a different credit or debit card to sign up for the new Adwords account, as any payment cards that you have previously used are now blacklisted and will get you banned again if used on a new account.

By following these tips, you should be able to get a new account up and running rather quickly. Remember to review my posts in the past few days to get an understanding of what could get you banned, so that you simply do not get your account canned again. Because, you don’t want to go through all this trouble just to get the boot once more now, do you?

How to Keep Your Google Adwords Account Safe: Part 2

How to Keep Your Google Adwords Account Safe: Part 2

Previously, we’ve seen some ways to keep your Google Adwords account from being banned. However, there are some other things that you should be aware of when using Adwords. I also have two more tips for you to avoid getting your account banned:

  • Don’t run banned campaigns again

Sometimes, instead of banning you, Google will simply disable a campaign that doesn’t play by their rules. This could appear in two different ways. Either Google will actually send you an email saying that your campaign doesn’t play by the rules and has been stopped, or they will simply “ghost” it, meaning that your ads will no longer be displaying, no matter what your bid amount is. If your campaign is stopped and you don’t know why, the best course of action is to contact Google Adwords Support. Sometimes you will get an explanation of what’s wrong with it, while some other times you will just get a generic “this is against the rules… you figure out which one” type of email. What NOT to do, would be to simply take down the campaign, get a new domain, change a few ads and keywords and start again. If you haven’t figured out what’s wrong with the campaign and Google is of no help, then try asking for some explanations on a webmaster or internet marketing forum. Many people there use Adwords and could help you. It could be something simple that you didn’t think of, such as your landing page not complying by the rules (i.e. a mobile offer that doesn’t clearly show the charges per SMS, etc) or simply a product that Google doesn’t like (i.e. many re bill offers).

  • Don’t create a new account if you are banned

If you get banned from Adwords, then chances are you are banned for life. That’s right, no more Adwords for you, ever. There are some people who think that they are sneaky and will try to sign back up again, often using the same domains, ads and of course the same name and credit card. That won’t work. Even if it does, it is usually a matter of hours before you get caught and booted again. When you are banned, you are not able to create a new account with the same name, credit card, home address and IP address again. So trying to be sneaky will simply lead you nowhere fast.

But is it possible to use Google Adwords again after you got banned? Oh, come on, you may be saying, it’s not like I was selling crack on my website or something. Well there are a few ways to get back on board with Adwords, however I want to warn you that it is not as easy as you could think it is. Tomorrow we will be taking a closer look at some ways to use Google Adwords again if your account was perma banned.

Finally, Some Other Ways to Promote Your Membership Site

Finally Some Other Ways to Promote Your Membership Site

We have seen that you can use forums, email, social media, as well as your own members to promote your membership site. But there are still a few other ways that you can attract members. Here they are:

  • Create an affiliate program

In the online marketing world, many products have affiliate programs which pay a commission to the affiliate for each new sale. If you would like your site to be more successful, you could create an affiliate program for it and pay your affiliates around 50% of the monthly fee that you would make from members. You can promote this affiliate program on online marketing forums, just like you would promote the site itself. It is also possible for you to join an affiliate network. ClickBank is the most popular one out there, as they deal with digital products such as ebooks and membership sites.

  • Use offline marketing

Even though your product is based on the internet and deals with internet marketing, it doesn’t mean that you can’t use any offline methods to promote it. Some ideas of offline methods include distributing fliers promoting your site or putting up ads in print media like newspapers and magazines. Some membership site owners have even created TV and radio commercials, but obviously these are quite expensive when compared to other advertising methods.

  • Use pay per click ads

Pay per click ad networks such as the ones on the Google and Bing search engines are an excellent marketing tool and can be used to promote IM products. However, you would need to carefulyl plan, manage and optimize your campaigns in order to be successful. You would also need to have a decent budget, as the whole internet marketing niche is very competitive.

  • Use media buying

Media buying simply means buying advertising space on another site. You can sometimes buy text ads, banner ads or even video ads. The payment model depends on the site where you buy the ad space from and could by a flat rate per week or month, a CPC (cost per click) or a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) model. You could deal either with an advertising network or make a private deal with a webmaster to advertise your membership site on their website.

All of these are excellent methods that you can make use of to promote your site and get some new members. However, the best way to generate revenue from your membership site is to keep your existing members, rather than constantly try to sign up new ones. This is actually much easier as you don’t need to do any advertising to retain your current members. All you need to do is to keep them interested in your site by adding new content on a regular basis, as well as listen to any feedback that they may have regarding the content of your site or how it runs.

Your Social Media Strategy

In the past, we have talked about what a great tool social media can make when you are trying to promote your business online. But in order to get good results from your campaigns, you will need to do things the right way, rather than simply plunging into the social media world unprepared.

We have already made a comparison between paid and free social media marketing. While there are some differences between both types of advertising, the following tips will be valid for both paid and free advertising on different kinds of social networks. Here are some things to keep under consideration:

  • Will you do things yourself, or hire outside help?

Social media marketing is not complicated. However, just like any type of online project, it will require that you spend some time on it and acquire the necessary knowledge to do things right. You may want to spend about half an hour to an hour a day checking up on your campaigns and updating your pages. If you can’t do this, you may want to hire some outside help, either from a dedicated online marketing firm, or from a freelancer that is knowledgeable on social media marketing for small businesses.

  • Which networks will you use?

There are plenty of social networking sites out there. Twitter, Facebook and MySpace are some of the most popular ones, but there are also some small and emerging networks that are used by many people. Some of these smaller networks could be quite popular with people residing in a certain region. What you need to do is to figure out who your targeted audience is, and what networks they frequent. You will then be able to focus your marketing efforts on the social media sites which are most popular with your target audience.

  • How will you keep your audience interested?

Remember that social networking sites are places where new content is posted all the time, ever single second of every day. While users come to these sites to learn things and inform themselves about what their friends and local businesses are doing, remember that these sites are not an encyclopedia or business directory. As such, you need to keep your content fresh and interesting for your readers. This can be achieved in various ways. For example, if you run an auto customization business, you may want to put up pictures of work that you have recently done on customers cars. You can also put up info on upcoming promotions or events related to your business. While you don’t have to update your page every single day of the week, you will still need to put up updates on a regular basis.

By keeping these tips in mind, you will be able to draw a much bigger benefit from your presence on social media sites. It is always good to have a strategy in mind, but you might need to make some changes to it if you realize it is not giving you the desired effect, or if you want to try using a new social networking site that has just become popular.
